Douluo: My Custom Achievement System
"Your teacher told me the basics about you yesterday, but I'd like to see you demonstrate it yourself and learn more about your Martial Soul. You don't mind, do you?" Wang Yan looked at him expectantly.
"Of course not," Jiang Yi replied readily.
With his Soul Power, it certainly wasn't his Soul Power that had earned him early admission, but his thousand-year First Soul Ring.
That being the case, he naturally had to demonstrate it to make his case convincing.
"This isn't a good place for a demonstration. Come with me," Wang Yan said happily.
Wang Yan led the way, and Jiang Yi obediently followed behind him.
The two left Shrek Hotel and soon arrived in a forest near Shrek Academy.
After finding an empty clearing, Wang Yan said impatiently, "No one usually comes here. You can demonstrate it here."
A thousand-year First Soul Ring was something that completely defied the common knowledge of present-day Martial Soul Theory, and Wang Yan, a Martial Soul scholar, was immensely curious about it.
Standing in the middle of the clearing, Jiang Yi released his Martial Soul without hesitation.
A thick strand of Blue Silver Grass formed, and a purple Soul Ring slowly rose from beneath Jiang Yi's feet.
At the sight of the purple Soul Ring, Wang Yan's curious gaze turned intensely excited.
"It really is a thousand-year First Soul Ring."
Wang Yan couldn't help stepping forward and examining the Blue Silver Grass in Jiang Yi's hand.
"It's dark blue, with grayish-white veins flowing inside. Are those the only changes?"
"No, there are some golden threads on it too!"
As Wang Yan examined it, he murmured his discoveries to himself.
"A very obvious Martial Soul Mutation. Martial Soul Mutation can indeed improve a Soul Master's physical constitution, but is that alone enough to let someone absorb a thousand-year ring as their First Soul Ring?"
"Can a Blue Silver Grass mutation really accomplish that?"
As a teacher at Shrek Academy, Wang Yan had seen plenty of Martial Soul Mutations, but he had never encountered one that brought such a tremendous improvement.
Wang Yan straightened up, his excitement gradually subsiding.
"Jiang Yi, did you absorb an Ancient Hemlock for your First Soul Ring?"
Surprise flashed in Jiang Yi's eyes. He hadn't expected Wang Yan's eye to be so sharp that he could identify the Soul Ring he had absorbed just by examining his Martial Soul.
"That's right. My First Soul Ring came from a thousand-year hemlock."
"But Teacher Wang, how did you guess?" Jiang Yi asked curiously.
"These grayish-white veins are very similar to the bark of an Ancient Hemlock. A Martial Soul like Blue Silver Grass is easily influenced by the Soul Rings it fuses with."
"So I just made a casual guess. I didn't expect to be right," Wang Yan said modestly.
"Jiang Yi, I've confirmed your Soul Ring. I'll take care of your admission."
"You can skip a grade and enter Shrek Academy, but you'll still have to take the advancement assessment next year. If you don't pass, you'll have to leave the academy."
"Make sure you prepare during the holiday." Wang Yan's expression abruptly turned serious.
Jiang Yi answered just as seriously, "I understand. Thank you for the reminder, Teacher Wang."
"Oh, right. Come to the academy tomorrow. I'll wait for you at the east gate," Wang Yan added.
After saying that, Wang Yan said nothing more, nor did he ask Jiang Yi to demonstrate his Soul Skill.
Deep in thought, he slowly left the forest.
"Golden threads... Are those a characteristic of the Blue Silver Emperor?"
"All taken care of." Jiang Yi smiled as he watched Wang Yan leave.
Although he could have entered Shrek through the regular channels next year, Li Lingyu had secured this opportunity for him, and entering early wasn't a bad option.
In any case, Shrek's first-year courses weren't much use to him.
If he ended up assigned to an extraordinary homeroom teacher like Zhou Yi, he'd really be miserable.
"Though I think Zhou Yi wasn't sent to be a homeroom teacher for the freshmen until next year, so I probably wouldn't have run into her anyway."
With that thought, Jiang Yi decided to return to the hotel.
Before he had taken a few steps, the hairs all over his body suddenly stood on end, and an utterly terrifying presence enveloped him.
A black hand shot toward him from the left. Jiang Yi's eyes widened, and under the terrifying threat, his potential was fully unleashed.
An Ant Shaking a Tree, activate!
Jiang Yi put forth all his strength and raised his palm, trying to block the hand reaching for him.
"Oh?" A voice sounded, full of interest.
Clearly, he had become interested in Jiang Yi's ability to resist.
The black hand abruptly slowed to match Jiang Yi's speed.
Jiang Yi struck with all his might, but when his palm hit the black hand, it was caught effortlessly without causing the slightest ripple.
The two hands touched for an instant before the black hand returned to an unimaginable speed.
It tapped lightly all over Jiang Yi's body, then withdrew in an instant.
Immediately afterward, the black hand and the dark figure vanished without a trace, causing no disturbance, as though they had never existed.
The terrifying presence disappeared, and Jiang Yi immediately collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.
"What on earth just happened? Who was that dark figure?"
Chapter 44: Xuan Zi's Surprise, Spiritual Power Improved (Please Keep Reading!)
In a small tavern near Shrek Hotel, Li Lingyu drained the wine in his hand and looked up at the clock.
"It's about time. Little Yi should have taken care of everything by now. I should head back too."
After paying his bill, Li Lingyu was just about to get up and leave.
"Give me a cup of your strongest liquor." An aged voice suddenly sounded beside Li Lingyu.
Li Lingyu, who had been about to leave, was suddenly enveloped by a powerful presence, and his body froze in place, unable to move.
"Boy, you wouldn't mind buying this old man a drink, would you?" the aged voice asked again.
As soon as the words fell, Li Lingyu felt his body return to normal.
His head stiff as a machine, he slowly turned to look at the old man behind him.
That familiar, slovenly appearance told Li Lingyu the old man's identity at once, even without seeing his face.
"Elder Xuan," Li Lingyu said hoarsely.
"What, boy? Are you that afraid of me?" Xuan Zi asked.
"I wouldn't dare." Li Lingyu smiled wryly. He had never expected Xuan Zi to come looking for him in person.
Back when he was at Shrek Academy, he had met Xuan Zi a few times, though they weren't very familiar with each other.
"I didn't expect you to dare return to Shrek City, boy, much less bring a disciple with you."
"That disciple of yours is good. His talent could be called monstrous even at Shrek Academy. It's a pity his Innate Soul Power was far too low."
"It was only around level one. Did you apply that theory of yours to him?" Xuan Zi asked with some curiosity.
Li Lingyu hurriedly denied it. "I haven't applied my theory to him. Until I've perfected it, I won't let anyone else try it."
Xuan Zi poured a mouthful of liquor into his mouth and glanced at Li Lingyu, judging that he wasn't lying.
"If you didn't use that theory of yours, then your disciple must have talent in some other respect."
Xuan Zi had just gone to observe Jiang Yi's talent in person, and he had been quite surprised.
Although he had released only a trace of his presence, it had still far surpassed Jiang Yi's cultivation.
Xuan Zi had never expected Jiang Yi to break free of its suppression and counterattack him.
Besides, the punch Jiang Yi had thrown with all his strength was no simple matter either.
The fact that Xuan Zi himself could catch it as though it were nothing didn't mean the punch lacked power.
If that punch had been aimed at a Soul Elder, even the Soul Elder would have felt immense pressure.
Jiang Yi had only level sixteen Soul Power, yet he possessed strength comparable to a Soul Elder's, and he hadn't fused with any Soul Bones.
He could already be called a monster among monsters.
If Jiang Yi could maintain that advantage as his cultivation increased, he would become an immensely powerful Soul Master.
"Thank you for the praise, Elder Xuan. It's all the result of Jiang Yi's hard work in cultivation."
"The academy will accept this disciple of yours. Once he demonstrates his talent, the academy will do its utmost to nurture him."
"As for you, you'd best come to Shrek City less often from now on," Xuan Zi said mildly.
Li Lingyu's expression dimmed, but he nodded obediently.
"It's not that this old man doesn't welcome you. It's that madwoman Lin Huiqun who doesn't. If she happens to discover you, she might really kill you."
"Once you've finished handling that boy's admission, leave Shrek as quickly as you can."
After saying that, Xuan Zi vanished, leaving only an empty wine cup where he had been.
"He's still a divine dragon whose head can be glimpsed but never its tail."
After paying the bill with a helpless sigh, Li Lingyu went straight out of the tavern.
Meanwhile, in the woods in eastern Shrek City, Jiang Yi had just recovered his strength and stood up.
"There's nothing wrong with my body. It seems that dark figure meant no harm. He suddenly appeared after I demonstrated my Martial Soul to Wang Yan."
"He must be someone from Shrek Academy."
"When he made his move, there was a strong smell of liquor on him, along with a fragrance. Could it have been Xuan Zi?"
Jiang Yi looked down as he analyzed the dark figure he had just encountered.
In the end, he concluded there was a ninety percent chance the dark figure was Xuan Zi.
Xuan Zi was the highest-ranking person Wang Yan could reach, and Xuan Zi had surely already learned about him.
In that case, it wasn't impossible that Xuan Zi had come out to personally assess his strength.
"The achievement the system gave me can also prove that person was Xuan Zi."
That was right. When Xuan Zi caught his palm strike, the system had given him another achievement.
"Detected that the host, with the cultivation of a level sixteen Soul Master, 'exchanged blows' with a level ninety-eight Super Douluo and suffered no injuries. Achievement acquired."
"Achievement name: An Ant's Palm Strike (An ant dared to attack a 'god.' This is no longer a matter of victory or defeat; will itself is also a kind of power.)"
"Achievement reward: Spiritual power purity and resilience increased by 20%."
"When facing any powerful attack exceeding your own strength, you have an extremely small chance of becoming immune to that attack."
"A level ninety-eight Super Douluo appearing near Shrek Academy-the dark figure's identity is already an open secret."
Looking at the achievement reward, Jiang Yi smiled with delight.
The displeasure he had felt over Xuan Zi's sneak attack vanished like smoke in an instant.
Receiving such a generous achievement reward for "exchanging blows" with Xuan Zi could be considered a blessing in disguise.
This was the first achievement he had received that improved his spiritual power.
Whether from Grass-Headed Emperor or otherwise, his Soul Power and Martial Soul control had both improved greatly.
On Douluo Continent, there were almost no methods of improving spiritual power other than fusing with Soul Rings and Soul Bones or consuming spiritual Immortal Herbs.
Obtaining this kind of achievement was undoubtedly a pleasant surprise.
"Xuan Zi has already come in person to confirm my strength, so my admission is probably settled."
Having confirmed that the person from earlier was Xuan Zi, Jiang Yi stopped dwelling on the matter, straightened his clothes, and left the forest.
When he returned to the hotel, he found that Li Lingyu had already been waiting in the lobby for some time.
"You're back. Go back and cultivate for now," Li Lingyu said with a faint smile.
"Teacher, aren't you going to ask whether I passed the assessment?" Jiang Yi asked, seeing how calm he was.
