Li Lingyu smiled confidently. "I have no worries about your strength. A mere assessment will be a cinch for you."

Jiang Yi smiled at his answer.

He said nothing more and returned to his room to cultivate.

That afternoon, when Jiang Nannan finished school, Jiang Yi went to wait for her at the east gate of Shrek Academy again.

That night, they went sightseeing elsewhere in Shrek City.

When it was time to part, Jiang Yi escorted Jiang Nannan back to the east gate of Shrek Academy.

"Nannan, I have a surprise for you tomorrow." Jiang Yi wore a mysterious smile.

"What surprise?" Jiang Nannan asked expectantly.

"It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you. You'll find out tomorrow. Go on back." Jiang Yi waved goodbye.

Chapter 45: A New Student, a Surprise (Please Keep Reading!)

Early the next morning, Jiang Yi said goodbye to Li Lingyu at the hotel and went to Shrek Academy alone.

Teacher didn't go to Shrek Academy again. It looks like my guess is most likely right.

Jiang Yi thought silently as he walked to Shrek Academy.

Although Li Lingyu had come to Shrek City, every time they were going to Shrek Academy, he avoided it like the plague and refused to go.

Combined with the facts that he had been a Shrek student, that his theoretical experiment had failed, and that he had been gravely injured and treated by the dean of Lingshan Junior Academy,

Jiang Yi could work out what had happened to Li Lingyu at Shrek Academy.

The person who had cooperated with him on the Extreme Training Method most likely had a substantial background at Shrek Academy and outstanding talent.

Otherwise, that person couldn't have worked with Li Lingyu to complete the first three stages of the experiment.

The experiment had failed, leaving that person severely injured and unable to advance in cultivation ever again.

With consequences that severe, the people behind that person must have been furious. Li Lingyu had then been driven out of Shrek Academy and gravely injured.

That was why he was unwilling to go to Shrek Academy.

If that's really what happened, doesn't that mean I'm in danger too, as his disciple?

But given Shrek Academy's power, the fact that Teacher was only gravely injured back then shows that the academy didn't want to take his life. They probably won't drag a junior into it either.

After all, Li Lingyu couldn't have forced anyone to take part in the experiment.

Perhaps there's something else going on?

Thinking about Li Lingyu, he soon arrived at the east gate of Shrek Academy.

Classes were in session, and aside from a few vendors who had claimed their spots early, there was no one at the east gate. It looked rather deserted.

He had just arrived when Wang Yan waved to him from nearby.

Jiang Yi hurried over. Smiling, Wang Yan said, "Come on. Follow me into the academy, and I'll help you with your enrollment."

"All right. Thank you, Teacher Wang Yan."

With Wang Yan leading him, he entered Shrek Academy without being stopped by the guards and headed for the academic affairs office.

Meanwhile, inside the office, Director of Instruction Du Weilun looked puzzled as he studied an order issued personally by Yan Shaozhe.

"Teacher Wang Yan will bring a student to enroll today. The student is to skip the first year."

Enrolling outside the admissions period and skipping a grade straight away? Does this student have a powerful background, or is he exceptionally gifted?

Early that morning, Du Weilun had been handling arrangements for the students' vacation when he suddenly received the order Yan Shaozhe had sent through a messenger.

When he read it, he thought it was fake. Their Shrek Academy had never set such a precedent.

But the dean's seal on it couldn't have been faked.

Forget it. I'll find out when Teacher Wang Yan gets here. The dean certainly wouldn't do this without reason.

What Du Weilun didn't know was that even Yan Shaozhe was full of curiosity about Jiang Yi.

The previous night, Xuan Zi had suddenly come to him and told him to issue an order allowing Jiang Yi to skip a grade and enroll early, and had given him Jiang Yi's basic information.

A thousand-year First Soul Ring, strength comparable to a Soul Elder's, and a cultivation of only level sixteen-all of it had left Yan Shaozhe stunned.

With those qualifications, and with Xuan Zi giving the order, Yan Shaozhe had naturally issued instructions to Du Weilun at once.

Before long, someone knocked on Du Weilun's office door.

"Come in."

Wang Yan led Jiang Yi into the office and cupped his hands in greeting to Du Weilun.

"Director Du, this is Jiang Yi. He's here to complete his enrollment. You should have received notice already," Wang Yan said.

"That's right, I've received it," Du Weilun said with a nod.

Then he turned his gaze to Jiang Yi.

Only level sixteen, and he looks about eleven. That doesn't make him much of a genius, does it?

As a Soul Douluo, he naturally saw through Jiang Yi's Soul Power at a glance. Its less-than-impressive level only puzzled him further.

"I've already taken care of the paperwork. All it needs is a signature to complete your enrollment.

"But before that, could Student Jiang Yi show me what he can do?"

Unable to contain his curiosity, Du Weilun voiced his question.

Wang Yan gave Jiang Yi a questioning look. Without hesitation, Jiang Yi released his Martial Soul.

A purple Soul Ring rose beneath his feet.

Du Weilun's pupils widened as he stared at the brilliant purple in disbelief.

"A thousand-year First Soul Ring. I see, now I understand." Still shocked, Du Weilun nodded slowly.

The purple First Soul Ring was utterly convincing. It cleared up all of Du Weilun's doubts at once.

He took out the enrollment form he had prepared and was about to sign it to admit Jiang Yi. Shrek couldn't let a talent like this slip away.

"Director Du, could you wait a moment?" Jiang Yi suddenly spoke up to stop him.

Puzzled, Du Weilun paused with his pen and asked gently, "What's wrong?"

"Could you assign me to Class One, Director? I know someone there," Jiang Yi requested earnestly.

"Haha, so that's what it is. A small matter," Du Weilun said with a hearty laugh.

After readily signing the form, he said to Wang Yan, "Teacher Wang, take the enrollment paperwork to the homeroom teacher of Class One and have Jiang Yi join the class."

"All right." Wang Yan took the form.

With his request granted, Jiang Yi smiled.

With the enrollment settled, Wang Yan led Jiang Yi out of the academic affairs office and toward the teaching building.

"Jiang Yi, what made you want to join Class One?" Wang Yan couldn't help asking as he looked at the words "Class One" on the form.

Jiang Yi looked puzzled. "Because I know someone in it. Didn't I just say that?"

"Oh." Wang Yan nodded somewhat blankly, his thoughts unreadable.

The homeroom teacher of Class One is Senior Sister Lin, isn't she? Is this fate?

Jiang Yi looked at the distracted Wang Yan in puzzlement. He didn't understand what had happened or why Wang Yan had suddenly become like this.

Under Wang Yan's guidance, Jiang Yi arrived at the door of Freshman Class One.

Standing outside, he could hear a mature, gentle female voice teaching inside.

Wang Yan knocked lightly on the door. The lecture stopped, and soon the classroom door opened.

A tall woman in a long cyan dress stepped out. She had a beautiful face and a gentle bearing, and looked to be in her thirties.

Notably, there was a scale-shaped cyan mark on her forehead.

The mark didn't mar her looks. Instead, it gave her a distinctive charm.

When the woman saw Wang Yan, a smile immediately blossomed on her face.

"Wang Yan, what brings you to the outer academy?"

"Senior Sister Lin Yu, I'm here to bring you a student. This is the form signed by Director Du." Wang Yan handed it over sheepishly.

"A new student? We still have new students at a time like this?" Lin Yu asked in surprise.

She glanced at Jiang Yi, then examined the form carefully. After confirming that everything was in order, she nodded slightly.

"I don't know why a student is enrolling now, but since the paperwork is complete, you can join my class."

Lin Yu smiled at Jiang Yi as she spoke.

"Thank you, Teacher Lin."

Jiang Yi was a little surprised that Lin Yu was so accommodating and hadn't asked anything, but he thanked her nonetheless.

"Come in with me. Today's the last day of the semester, so your classmates can get to know you."

With that, Lin Yu walked into the classroom, and Jiang Yi followed close behind.

The extra person immediately drew the attention of everyone in the class.

Sitting near the front of the classroom, Jiang Nannan looked at Jiang Yi on the platform, her eyes full of delighted excitement.

Lin Yu went to the platform and addressed the freshmen of Class One.

"Students, this is your new classmate. He'll be joining Class One from now on."

"Introduce yourself," Lin Yu said to Jiang Yi.

"Hello, everyone. My name is Jiang Yi. I'm happy to be your classmate."

Jiang Yi wore a smile, and his handsome face and exceptionally approachable bearing immediately made a good impression on most of the class.

Most of them were female students, of course. Hardly any normal male student would take a liking to another male student he had never spent time with.

Near a window at the back right of the classroom, two male students sat watching Jiang Yi on the platform.

"Hey, Bei Bei, this new guy is so handsome he's already almost eighty percent as good-looking as me. I'm afraid your place as the second most handsome guy in Class One is in danger!"

The speaker was a male student with a square face, thick brows, fierce eyes, a straight nose, a square mouth, and baby fat on his cheeks. He sighed to his deskmate beside him.

Bei Bei's face immediately darkened at his words.

"Xu Sanshi, since when did I become the second most handsome guy in Class One? You go around calling yourself the most handsome all day. Leave me out of it."

Having said that, Bei Bei couldn't be bothered with Xu Sanshi anymore. He looked at Jiang Yi, his gaze thoughtful.

"Student Jiang Yi, find an empty seat," Lin Yu said with a smile.

"Come sit here with me," Jiang Nannan said, raising her hand.

Her words immediately drew everyone's attention.

Even Lin Yu looked surprised. Jiang Nannan was an exceptionally gifted student who had taken first place in the freshman assessment, so Lin Yu naturally paid special attention to her.

She also believed she knew Jiang Nannan's aloof nature very well.

Yet Jiang Nannan, the famously aloof goddess, had actually invited a boy to sit beside her.

The vast majority of the male students stared hard at Jiang Yi with envy and jealousy.

Ignoring their gazes, Jiang Yi went over and sat down beside Jiang Nannan.

"Brother Jiang Yi, is this the surprise you mentioned?" Jiang Nannan asked in a low voice.

"That's right. What do you think of it?" Jiang Yi asked with a faint smile.

Jiang Nannan didn't answer. She only nodded repeatedly.

After Jiang Yi took his seat, Lin Yu quieted the class and continued her lesson.

When class ended, Jiang Nannan pulled Jiang Yi straight out of the classroom and ran to a deserted corner.

"Brother Jiang Yi, how did you do it? How did you manage to join the academy at a time like this?"
