Douluo: My Custom Achievement System Chapter 47
Yan Shaozhe barely managed to control his emotions, then said with a bitter smile, "You brat, you really are taking me for a rich sucker to fleece!"
Jiang Yi said nothing, looking innocent. Yan Shaozhe sighed.
"I can give you the Mystic Water Pills, Soul Ascension Pills, and Thousand-Year Whale Rubber, but Ten-Thousand-Year Whale Glue is simply too precious. The academy doesn't have much in stock."
"Two pieces are out of the question. I can only give you one piece of Ten-Thousand-Year Whale Glue."
"If you want compensation in some other form, go ahead and ask," Yan Shaozhe said, pained by the expense.
For the sake of his disciple, Yan Shaozhe was truly sparing no expense. All these resources were not much less than what he had spent training Ma Xiaotao back then.
Of course, that only counted the pills and Whale Rubber. If the medicinal baths and various other resources she had used growing up were included, there would be no comparison.
Jiang Yi was delighted. He really hadn't expected to get a piece of Ten-Thousand-Year Whale Glue from Yan Shaozhe.
In the original story, Yan Shaozhe had been extremely stingy. In his efforts to recruit Huo Yuhao, an Ultimate Soul Master with Twin Martial Souls, he had never offered any substantial resources.
All he had given him from beginning to end were special status and privileges.
For Yan Shaozhe to part with so many resources at once was already an unexpected windfall, as far as Jiang Yi was concerned.
He had expected to haggle, but Yan Shaozhe had been surprisingly straightforward.
"Compensation?"
Jiang Yi thought for a moment before saying, "Could the academy give me some medicinal herbs?"
"Medicinal herbs?" Hearing this, Yan Shaozhe breathed a sigh of relief. He had really been afraid Jiang Yi would present him with another difficult problem.
Shrek Academy had plenty of medicinal herbs in stock, so there was no harm in giving the lad some. Yan Shaozhe nodded in agreement.
Jiang Yi was delighted. He had secured the medicinal herbs his teacher needed for his research, too.
"All right, you can go now. I'll have Weilun deliver those resources to you later," Yan Shaozhe said with a wave.
"Thank you, Dean. Whenever Senior Ma needs her Evil Fire suppressed, she can come find me right away," Jiang Yi said with a smile.
Jiang Yi left the office, and Yan Shaozhe immediately felt utterly exhausted.
"Sigh, I'll consider it an investment in Jiang Yi. In any case, he's a thoroughly homegrown junior of our Shrek Academy."
"If Teacher hadn't asked me to investigate Jiang Yi's background, I never would have guessed that his teacher was Li Lingyu."
"The Extreme Training Method... If it really succeeds, it could change the entire Douluo Continent. Unfortunately, its flaws are simply too great."
A sigh echoed through the quiet office.
Outside the academic affairs office, Jiang Yi wore a smile. With so many resources acquired at once, he could speed up his cultivation again.
He had decided on these resources long ago.
Shrek Academy was a school, but it was also a power. Its most important and best resources would surely be reserved for its own people.
Students, at the end of the day, only came here to study. Shrek Academy gave them some resources to build goodwill and leave them with a lasting bond.
Otherwise, it would not have such powerful influence throughout the Douluo Continent.
Thus, Jiang Yi understood perfectly well that until he fully joined and became a member of this power, obtaining top-tier resources like Soul Bones would be difficult.
Even if he asked for one and managed to get it, the best he could hope for was probably a ten-thousand-year Soul Bone, and its attributes might not even suit him.
Life-attribute Soul Bones were uncommon on the Douluo Continent.
But he already had a cheat. Fusing with a Soul Bone that had barely reached ten thousand years would be rather shabby.
With the system's rewards, he was strong enough to fight above his level, so there was no need to rush over a Soul Bone.
That was why he had never included Soul Bones and the like among the things he intended to ask for.
Whale Rubber was what he needed most right now. He had the Collector series of achievements, which allowed him to absorb Soul Rings beyond the usual age limit, so he naturally had to make good use of it.
Ten-Thousand-Year Whale Glue was naturally the best resource for improving his physique. There were also five pieces of Thousand-Year Whale Rubber, and he planned to give two to Jiang Nannan.
Like the Mystic Water Pill, the more Whale Rubber one consumed, the less effective it became.
Otherwise, Wang Dong, who had grown up eating Whale Rubber, would have absorbed a thousand-year Soul Ring as her First Soul Ring long ago. Why would she have needed to wait until her Second Soul Ring?
After eating a piece of Ten-Thousand-Year Whale Glue, the improvement he gained from consuming Thousand-Year Whale Rubber afterward would be very small.
He also planned to take only three Mystic Water Pills and give one to Jiang Nannan. Her Innate Soul Power was high, so it would not do much for her, but it was better than nothing.
As for the remaining one, he would give it to Li Lingyu for research.
Each Soul Master could only take one Soul Ascension Pill, so naturally, he and Jiang Nannan would get one each.
Jiang Nannan was currently at level thirty-three and had been cultivating for quite some time. After taking it, she should be able to break straight through to level thirty-four.
"Time to wait for my pills." Jiang Yi smiled and walked toward the classroom.
After his deal with Yan Shaozhe, another four peaceful days passed. By then, it had been a week since Jiang Yi arrived at Shrek Academy.
During that time, there had been no word about the resources Yan Shaozhe had promised him.
Nor had anyone summoned him to help Ma Xiaotao suppress her Evil Fire, so Jiang Yi immersed himself in cultivation, working to increase his Soul Power faster.
Although he could now fight above his level, his Soul Power was simply too low. Against a high-level Soul Elder whom he did not counter, or who even countered him, he would be rendered helpless.
The fastest way to solve this problem was to increase his Soul Power.
After afternoon classes ended, Jiang Yi was cultivating in his dormitory when a figure suddenly appeared at the door.
The figure was none other than Du Weilun.
"Director, what brings you here?" Jiang Yi sensed him, ended his cultivation, and came over.
Smiling, Du Weilun took out a Storage Soul Tool made from a special beast hide.
"The dean asked me to give this to you."
Jiang Yi accepted the Storage Soul Tool and smiled. The cultivation resources he had waited so long for were finally in his hands.
"The dean also asked me to tell you to come with me to the Inner Court at seven tomorrow morning. It's time for you to get to work."
Having received the resources he wanted, Jiang Yi readily agreed. "All right, I'll come find you on time tomorrow, Director."
"Mm. In that case, I won't disturb your cultivation." Having delivered the message, Du Weilun turned and left the dormitory.
After he left, Jiang Yi closed the door and checked the resources inside. Finding nothing amiss, he nodded slowly.
"But I have to help Ma Xiaotao suppress her Evil Fire at seven tomorrow. I'd better take these afterward."
"Though when I go see Ma Xiaotao tomorrow, I can ask her to soften this piece of Ten-Thousand-Year Whale Glue so I can take it right away."
After putting away the Storage Soul Tool, Jiang Yi resumed cultivating, waiting for tomorrow, when he would go to the Inner Court and help Ma Xiaotao suppress her Evil Fire.
Chapter 74: Thoughts run wild, the Evil Fire strikes back (please keep reading!)
Early in the morning, Jiang Yi told Jiang Nannan he had something to do, then left the dormitory and went to the shore of Sea God Lake.
Du Weilun had long been waiting there.
"Director," Jiang Yi greeted him.
Du Weilun smiled and nodded to him. "Let's go. It's about time, and we can't be late for the task the dean assigned."
Jiang Yi had no objection. Du Weilun took hold of his arm, and Jiang Yi felt the ground vanish beneath his feet. Strong winds howled past as the scenery swept rapidly by.
Looking at the lake water beneath his feet, Jiang Yi felt a surge of emotion. This was his first time flying.
Aside from those with certain Martial Souls that could fly, ordinary Soul Masters had to reach the Soul Saint level before they gained the ability to fly.
Of course, in the current era, four-ring Soul Masters could also fly with the help of a Flying Soul Tool.
With Du Weilun, a Soul Douluo, leading the way, the two soon crossed Sea God Lake and arrived on Sea God Island.
His feet touched the soft sand, and Jiang Yi recovered from the sensation of weightlessness.
"This is the Inner Court," Du Weilun said with a smile.
"Sea God Island was built by Tang San, one of the original Shrek Seven Devils. It's the heart of our academy."
"After successfully graduating from the Outer Court and passing an assessment, you can join the Shrek Inner Court and come here to study."
"Once we're inside, don't wander off. Stay behind me. There are many places here that are forbidden to enter," Du Weilun warned sternly.
Jiang Yi nodded, and Du Weilun continued, "Follow me. We're going to the Inner Court's dormitory area."
Following Du Weilun, Jiang Yi arrived at the dormitory area. There weren't many dormitories here, only around eight or nine buildings.
There were actually very few students permanently stationed in the Shrek Inner Court, because anyone who joined the Inner Court had to join the Shrek Inspection Corps.
This organization, made up of Shrek Inner Court students, hunted Evil Soul Masters across the continent. Its members were constantly carrying out missions across the continent and fighting Evil Soul Masters.
Only a small number of students stayed in the Inner Court to cultivate, though they too had to set out immediately when there was a mission.
At that moment, Ma Xiaotao stood outside the ground floor of one of the dormitories, waiting and staring ahead until her eyes ached.
After receiving word from her teacher, she had gotten dressed and hurried downstairs to wait.
Ever since Yan Shaozhe told her he had found a Soul Master with the sacred attribute to help suppress her Evil Fire, she had refrained from cultivating rashly. The restraint had been unbearable.
At that moment, Ma Xiaotao caught sight of Du Weilun and Jiang Yi.
Delight appeared on her face. Her body instantly became a fiery red afterimage as she rushed toward Du Weilun.
Jiang Yi, who had been walking forward, suddenly stopped and looked ahead, his expression turning wary.
"It's all right. The person you're here to help has arrived," Du Weilun said with a smile.
Sure enough, a wave of heat struck Jiang Yi in the face, and a red figure came to a stop in front of him.
Ma Xiaotao was dressed in red. She was tall and slender, with an enchanting face but an icy bearing, and a powerful presence radiated from her.
Ma Xiaotao, Jiang Yi silently identified the woman before him.
"Director Du, is he the one who's going to help suppress my Evil Fire?" Ma Xiaotao glanced at Jiang Yi and hurriedly asked.
"That's right." Du Weilun nodded.
Ma Xiaotao frowned and looked Jiang Yi up and down, then slowly nodded.
Jiang Yi met Ma Xiaotao's eyes, his expression calm.
"Isn't his cultivation a little too weak?" Ma Xiaotao asked, somewhat puzzled.
Yan Shaozhe had only told her there was a Soul Master with the sacred attribute; he hadn't mentioned his level. Seeing that Jiang Yi was only level seventeen, she couldn't help but have doubts.
Faced with her doubts, Jiang Yi said little. He himself wasn't very optimistic about how effective he would be at suppressing the Evil Fire.
Ma Xiaotao glanced at the calm Jiang Yi and, remembering that her teacher had arranged this, said no more.
"Then come with me." Ma Xiaotao stepped forward, took Jiang Yi's hand, and strode ahead.
After they had gone some distance, Jiang Yi said helplessly, "Senior Ma, let go of my hand. It's not like I'm going to run away."
Seeing that he was unwilling, Ma Xiaotao released his hand.
"Then stay close," Ma Xiaotao said, her voice somewhat urgent.
She walked briskly ahead, and Jiang Yi followed closely at her heels.
They soon left the dormitory area and arrived in front of another building. This was a Mimicry Cultivation facility reserved for Inner Court students.
Ma Xiaotao couldn't wait to bring Jiang Yi into an ordinary cultivation room with no elemental attribute.
She plopped down in a spot in the cultivation room and said to Jiang Yi, her cheeks flushed, "Hurry and help me suppress the Evil Fire."
Although she hadn't cultivated for days, the Evil Fire had not stopped building up. On top of that, she had been so anxious just now that she had released a burst of Soul Power, leaving her struggling to control it.
Seeing this, Jiang Yi immediately sat cross-legged on the bed. He had no desire to face an out-of-control Ma Xiaotao.
"My method of suppression and treatment is a little different, and it will cause you considerable pain. Please don't mind," Jiang Yi warned before starting.
"I don't mind. Hurry," Ma Xiaotao said urgently.
Jiang Yi wasted no more words. His gaze sharpened, and he immediately released his Martial Soul.
Under his control, Blue Silver Grass wound itself around Ma Xiaotao's waist.
Ma Xiaotao's body trembled at once. "What are you doing?" she demanded unhappily.
"I can't suppress your Evil Fire from a distance," Jiang Yi said calmly.
The Blue Silver Grass continued winding around her, avoiding Ma Xiaotao's sensitive areas while wrapping around almost everywhere else.
