Shocking? The System Actually Made Hughes Bully an Old Lady
Mira's soft voice calmed Hughes down. He shook his head and released her shoulders.
Right, it's just a guild mark, not the end of the world. Why am I so nervous?
Even if the sky falls, life goes on! What the hell am I scared of... Wait, my balls can't get scared. They'd go limp.
Back to his usual self, Hughes patted his head. "You're right, Mira! It's no big deal!"
The girl lowered her gaze to the guild mark on her right arm, then looked at the one on Hughes's right arm. Her anxiety eased a little.
"Hughes, are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?"
Hughes got out of bed, scooped some water from the washbasin, and rubbed it haphazardly over his face.
Then he took the towel Mira handed him and rubbed his face hard a few times. That counted as washing it.
"Food?" Hughes rubbed his stomach. According to Mira, he had been unconscious for three days, yet he wasn't hungry in the slightest.
"Boy, now that you're awake, get out!"
Grandma Porlyusica stood outside the door, alerted by the noise the two had made. After watching Hughes for a moment with her stern eyes, she told him to leave.
"Oh, Grandma Porlyusica! Sorry for the trouble this time!" Hughes greeted her with a grin.
As a patient, Hughes knew he had to stay on the doctor's good side.
"Get moving, and give this to Makarov!" Unmoved by Hughes's act, Porlyusica kept a stern face as she took a bill from behind her back and handed it to Mira.
Mira stepped forward to take it, then folded it and slipped it into her pocket.
It was Hughes's medical bill, and the cost was rather high. She didn't want him to see it in case the shock made him fall ill again.
"Hey! Mira, let me see it too, I..."
[Ding! A Celestial Dragon has been detected. Please trample it!] [The quest "Trample the Celestial Dragons" can be activated!]
Hughes had still been grinning, but at the system's sudden notification, his smile turned strange.
He glanced at Grandma Porlyusica, then at the quest on the panel.
Is... is this right?
Mira, meanwhile, respectfully bowed to Grandma Porlyusica to thank her for looking after them over the past few days.
Then she took the stunned Hughes by the hand and hurried out of the wooden house.
Inside, Porlyusica shook her head. The younger one was polite and knew how to behave; the older one was like a child.
As Mira led Hughes away, the confusion on his face remained. He summoned the transparent panel.
[Trample the Celestial Dragons: Descendants of kings, heirs of the creators. These people of noble status are corrupt and incompetent, committing every evil imaginable. They are the greatest evil in the world, nurturing criminal forces and slaughtering nations and wiping out islands. Please trample these damned Celestial Dragons and let them experience pain too.] [Quest reward: ???] [Quest penalty: ???]
Hughes silently looked away. The quest was vague, and so were the reward and penalty. This lousy system had no sincerity whatsoever.
Trample? What counts as trampling? Grandma Porlyusica is over eighty!
If Hughes dared lay a finger on Porlyusica, she'd dare lie down on the spot, and the next day Hughes would turn up in a mass grave.
Who didn't know that in the world of Fairy Tail, if you offended the Black Dragon King, you might have a chance of surviving, but if you offended Fairy Tail, it was hard to say!
This wasn't a quest he could complete... Wait! Maybe it is. There's more than one Celestial Dragon!
An utterly ordinary blue-haired girl flashed through Hughes's mind. By that logic, could Wendy from the world of Edolas count as a target too? On second thought, he crossed her off.
The key to the quest "Trample the Celestial Dragons" was the words "Celestial Dragons." Wendy from the world of Edolas hadn't been raised by a dragon, didn't know Dragon Slayer Magic, and couldn't possibly turn into a dragon. She had nothing to do with Celestial Dragons whatsoever.
Hughes was gradually figuring out how the system's quests were triggered. Mira had the title of Demon, so the system had identified her as Oars the Demon from the world of the Pirate King.
Grandma Porlyusica was the Sky Dragon of Edolas, so the system had identified her as a Celestial Dragon.
Even the target of the first quest, "Defeat the King of Mount Colubo," had been a Forest Vulcan King.
There was always some connection between the subject and the target.
"Hughes, look ahead!"
Just as Hughes's thoughts were wandering, Mira, who was leading him along, suddenly spoke up, her voice tense and urgent.
"Huh? Wha-"
"Bang!"
A thick, drooping branch collided with Hughes's forehead. Since he hadn't turned into his element, he staggered back several steps and collapsed into a sitting position. When he moved his hand from his forehead, a crimson mark was clearly visible.
It didn't hurt, but the embarrassment was even worse, especially since someone had seen it happen.
"Laugh? What the hell are you laughing at?!"
"You can't even lead someone along properly!"
Furious, Hughes roared in helpless frustration!
In Magnolia, Hughes looked up at the new guild building, which had been rebuilt in just two or three days.
It was still a tavern, and even its size was exactly the same. Anyone who didn't know the truth would think it had merely been renovated.
No... Hughes suspected they might have used Time Magic to turn it back or Memory Magic to reconstruct it.
A jumble of voices reached his ears, and the aroma of alcohol wafted through the air. Hughes pushed open the guild doors, and two distinctly separate worlds came into view.
In front of the bar was Makarov, wearing a jester's hat and sighing.
At the tables were the carefree guild members, making merry.
"Mira! Hughes! You're finally here!" Lisanna, wearing a brand-new pink dress, bounced out of the crowd and greeted them with a smile.
"Oh!"
Lisanna: ε=(´ο`*)))
"Hughes, you're so cold!" After that complaint, Lisanna turned her bright, round eyes toward Mira.
"Mira, I learned magic! Let me show you!"
"Take Over Magic: Animal Soul: Cat!"
Magic surged through her, and her small body gradually began to change. Two white cat ears grew from her head, her hands and feet turned into white cat paws, and a rather long black-and-white striped cat tail curved up slightly behind her.
Her pink dress turned into fur shorts and a chest wrap, striped black and white like her tail.
Looking like a catgirl, Lisanna spun around, stuck out her tongue, and struck a catlike pose.
Cana: "Wow! Lisanna, you're so cute!"
Natsu: "Nice, Lisanna!"
Gray: "Yeah! Lisanna, you've learned your magic really well!"
In the crowd, Erza dropped the fork in her hand. Her cheeks flushed as she whispered, "So cute!"
"Mira, look at me. I learned the same kind of magic as you." Lisanna stuck her tongue out a little as she showed off.
Before Mira could respond, Hughes picked up some clothes that had inexplicably appeared on the floor and hurled them at her. "You damn precocious brat, take over a normal animal!"
The naked Gray: ...Those seemed to be his clothes.
Beside him, the properly dressed Elfman silently hid his black bear arm behind his back...
"Damn it, Lisanna's magic is obviously adorable!"
"You bastard, are you looking for another fight?!"
With her looks and sweet words, Lisanna had won the affection and protection of everyone in the guild in just a few days.
Seeing Hughes disparage her magic like that, everyone got to their feet in outrage. Flames and cold air even appeared around Natsu and Gray.
A smile appeared at the corner of Hughes's mouth. He crooked his index finger at them, and a wisp of flame sprang up at its tip.
How could he count himself a member of Fairy Tail without having a little fun after joining the guild?
"I'll fight ten of you. Actually, forget it. Come at me all at once!"
