Background / History

Village Life and Departure

Lisanna lost her parents while young and was raised alongside Elfman by their older sister, Mira. After Mira absorbed a demon while protecting the village, the villagers branded her a demon and tried to drive all three siblings away. When Hughes first found Lisanna at their dilapidated home, she was wary of him, and Elfman confronted him with a wooden stick to protect her 5 7.

Hughes persuaded Mira to leave for Magnolia and seek help from Fairy Tail. Lisanna quickly warmed to him, calling him “Brother Hughes” and expressing hope that his powers could restore Mira's arm. During the journey, however, she acted against him when she believed he would hurt Mira: she threw a rock to distract him and gave Elfman a heavier one, which he used to knock Hughes unconscious 7 10.

The siblings faced further hostility in Haige Town when townspeople saw Mira's demon arm. Hughes drove off the crowd, and the group continued toward Magnolia on foot because they lacked the identification required for train travel and could not afford a magic vehicle. Hughes's detours delayed their arrival by half a month 13 14 19.

Joining Fairy Tail

At Fairy Tail, Lisanna defended Hughes after his confrontation with the guild members, pointing out that their attacks had caused most of the damage to the building. She announced the group's intention to join and requested a white guild emblem on her thigh 22.

Makarov's examination confirmed that she could become a mage, relieving her fear that a lack of magical aptitude might separate her from Mira and Hughes. Within a few days, she learned Animal Soul: Cat and won the affection of the guild members, who angrily defended her when Hughes mocked the transformation 23 26.

Life in Magnolia

Lisanna settled into a household with Hughes and her siblings, first at Makarov's former house and later at their villa. She continued studying Take Over Magic under Makarov and Mira, while spending time with Natsu, Happy, Gray, and Erza. With Hughes's support, she accompanied Erza's group on a local D-Class job to gain experience 29 49 62 102.

Her mischief repeatedly caused trouble at home. After Hughes helped her steal a feather fish reserved for Makarov, he revealed a recording of the theft to Mira. Lisanna was made to watch the others eat the remaining fish and accept a month of housework and laundry 64.

Heartfilia Estate Visit and Later Events

Hughes brought Lisanna, Mira, and Elfman into the Heartfilia estate, deliberately leaving Lisanna without a disguise. He pushed her into Lucy's room, where Aquarius mistook her for the leader of a group of dark mages. Hughes defeated Aquarius before her attack struck, then blamed Lisanna for the intrusion and carried her away before she could object 150 151.

Lisanna later warned that Lucy knew both her face and name and could hire someone to retaliate. On the return journey to Magnolia, Hughes caught several animals for her to take over, and she eagerly demonstrated each new form 152 157.

Before leaving on an extended journey, Hughes instructed Mira to ensure that Lisanna and Elfman continued growing stronger. After seeing Mira's embarrassed reaction to his letter, Lisanna again declared that the Strauss family's future would have to depend on her 183.

Personality

Lisanna is lively, affectionate, and extremely talkative. Once comfortable with Hughes, she spends much of their journey skipping beside him and asking questions about his origins, powers, and destination. Her concern frequently returns to Mira, and she offers to have her sister cook for Hughes when she thinks he might miss a meal 7 8 14.

She is fiercely protective of her family despite her initial timidity. She helps organize the rock ambush when she believes Hughes threatens Mira, shields her sister when she misunderstands his request to examine her arm, and openly defends Hughes before Makarov when the guild blames him for its destruction 10 14 22.

Her romantic curiosity and teasing often outpace her judgment. She jokes about Mira behaving like a housewife, gives unsolicited relationship advice, and mistakes Hughes's private conversation with Cana for evidence that he is betraying Mira. Although quick to provoke others, she often retreats behind a sibling or guild member when threatened with punishment 62 77 123 152.

Lisanna also recognizes how strongly Mira favors Hughes. She repeatedly complains about her sister taking his side and presents herself as the sibling who must uphold the Strauss family's interests 120 141 152 183.

Lisanna uses Animal Soul to assume animal characteristics and forms. She initially takes pride in learning the same broad category of magic as Mira 26.
