Douluo Continent: Simulating Douluo Dalu III, Tripping Up Tang San
"We can choose?" Gong Yu's face lit up. God-level really is awesome. The Soul Bones aren't even given out at random.
Na'er said, "The Ice and Fire Dragon Kings' dragon souls are still conscious, so they can let Brother Yu choose. If they were sleeping, I expect it would have to be random."
Gong Yu pondered for a moment, then said, "In that case, I'll take a fire-attribute left leg bone and an ice-attribute right arm bone!"
"All right," Na'er replied, then began chattering away with the two dragon souls again.
The red and blue dragon souls then plunged straight into the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well with two splashes.
A moment later, the two dragon souls returned, each carrying a Soul Bone in its mouth, and placed them in front of Luo Han.
"Wonderful," Gong Yu said happily. "I wonder how many levels of Soul Power these two Soul Bones will give me."
But before his excitement had faded, he heard Na'er say, "Brother Yu, stop dreaming. Your Soul Power won't increase. Both Dragon Kings are god-level, so there's no Soul Power in their Soul Bones, though there is some divine power left.
"But you can't absorb divine power yet, Brother Yu, so your level won't increase. Still, the dragon souls of the two Dragon Kings can nourish you in return and greatly increase your spiritual power."
"Increase my spiritual power? That's not bad either," Gong Yu said mildly. His most recent test had shown that his spiritual power had reached two thousand points, roughly the middle stage of the Spirit Sea Realm, though that had been two months ago.
If he received nourishment from the two Dragon Kings' souls after fusing with their Soul Bones, he might not reach the Spirit Abyss Realm, but he could probably reach the peak of the Spirit Sea Realm.
If he really could reach the peak of the Spirit Sea Realm, then after taking the Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew, advancing to the Spirit Abyss Realm would be a nail hammered firmly into the board.
Chapter 72: Fusing with the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings' Soul Bones
Gong Yu first placed the Primordial Immortal Herb he had picked in a jade box, then casually picked up the Fire Dragon King's fire-attribute left leg bone.
As he prepared to absorb it, he looked at Bi Ji and Zi JI nearby and said, "Sister Zi JI, Sister Bi Ji, sorry to trouble you with protecting everyone. If a very weak, green-haired Titled Douluo shows up, just take him down.
"But be careful. Although that old man is the weakest Titled Douluo on the continent, he's skilled with poison. Make sure he doesn't leap over the wall like a desperate dog and scatter poison on everyone."
Zi JI nodded from where she stood.
Bi Ji smiled calmly and said, "Don't worry. I can even neutralize the Myriad Demon King's poison. A mere Titled Douluo's poison won't be difficult for me."
Gong Yu smiled awkwardly, feeling that he had worried for nothing.
He then sat down cross-legged, pressed the Fire Dragon King's left leg bone against his left lower leg, and began absorbing it.
Since the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings had given the Soul Bones willingly, the bone practically fused with Gong Yu of its own accord. It took him very little time: only five minutes had passed by the time he had fully fused with the Fire Dragon King's left leg bone.
He picked up the Ice Dragon King's right arm bone and began fusing with it.
Like the Fire Dragon King's, the Ice Dragon King's Soul Bone practically fused with Gong Yu of its own accord, so it took about the same amount of time.
After he successfully fused with both Soul Bones, Gong Yu suddenly felt his senses stretching outward. Everything in the world around him appeared clearly in his mind. He didn't need to look; simply sensing it was enough to make it all so clear.
This meant that his spiritual power seemed to have entered another realm, but there also seemed to be a membrane blocking him, preventing him from fully entering it.
Gong Yu stood and walked among the flowers and plants, stopping beside an utterly unremarkable-looking herb.
The herb was green all over. Strangely, three snow-white leaves grew at its center, with a few droplets of water on them, like dew left behind in the early morning.
"Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew, you're the one." Gong Yu crouched and picked it according to the method recorded in the collection of famous herbs. Then he returned to where he had been sitting and sat down cross-legged again.
"Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew: consume it to cultivate fiery eyes and golden pupils that see through the myriad wonders in all directions." Murmuring the words, Gong Yu raised the herb in front of him and tilted it slightly. The few drops of clear liquid immediately fell into his mouth.
The moment the last drops left the leaves, the entire Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew withered in Gong Yu's hand. In the blink of an eye, it turned to dust and scattered from his palm.
He then settled into a five-hearts-facing-heaven posture and quietly began cultivating.
Na'er saw that Gong Yu had sat down to cultivate and that the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings had already moved into the Soul Bones. With nothing to do, she sat down cross-legged as well.
Holding the Lovesick Heartbreak Red, she looked reluctant, but in the end she gritted her teeth and began eating it bit by bit. Once she had finished, she began cultivating too.
Time gradually passed, minute by minute and second by second. In the blink of an eye, six hours had gone by, and as the immortal herbs took effect, the girls all underwent changes to varying degrees.
The sky had gradually darkened, and just then, a green-haired old man appeared near the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. It was none other than the Poison Douluo.
When he saw the children sitting cross-legged among the flowers and plants, each about the same age as his granddaughter, he was about to erupt.
But before he could, Zi JI pinned him down and sealed his Soul Power.
Then, with two vines she had found somewhere, Zi JI bound Dugu Bo hand and foot and hung him from a tree. She also stuffed a handful of grass into his mouth.
The Poison Douluo's gaze as he looked at Zi JI was full of venom, but Zi JI didn't even spare him a proper glance.
About half an hour later, Gong Miaomiao was the first to wake. Her chrysanthemum Martial Soul manifested from her right palm without being summoned, and the three Soul Rings on her body continuously flashed with dazzling brilliance at an astonishing speed.
Gong Yue sat quietly, but a fragrance unique to the Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid wafted from her body. A faint white mist rose from her skin, swirling and rippling around her.
She had originally been the most ordinary-looking of the sisters, but the white mist lent her an added touch of otherworldly grace.
Gong Xue went without saying. Having absorbed the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower, her entire body was bathed in red.
A few breaths later, a bird's cry rang out. It sounded like a phoenix, yet not quite, but it resounded through the sky and was in no way inferior to a phoenix's cry.
A five-colored bird then shot into the sky from Gong Xue's body. After circling twice in the air, it flew back down and entered her body again.
Only then did Gong Xue slowly open her eyes. Beside her, Gong Yue seemed to sense the scorching fire attribute coming from her and gently opened her eyes as well.
Gong Niuniu's transformation was the most dazzling. The Nine-Colored Amethyst Lamp floated quietly before her, its nine colored halos shining. As the halos flickered, a rich golden light set them off.
The golden light came from Gong Niuniu herself and carried a rich fragrance of tulips. As the crystalline light flowed around her, she looked like a fairy descended to the mortal world.
Every time the golden light grew stronger, Gong Niuniu's Nine-Colored Amethyst Lamp became even more dazzling.
"That felt great." Gong Xiao stretched nearby, and as she stood, her bones cracked all over.
Hearing Gong Xiao's voice, Gong Yue, who was not far away, raised her right hand and held her index finger to her lips. "Shh," she said, gesturing for Gong Xiao to be quiet.
Unfortunately, Gong Yue seemed to have acted a little too late. About five or six meters away, Gong Qianqian slowly opened her eyes.
Gong Xi'er and Gong Niuniu opened their eyes one after another.
A little while later, after about ten minutes, Gong Lan woke as well.
Seeing the obvious changes in her younger sisters and sensing that their presences had all grown much stronger, Gong Lan smiled sweetly.
She glanced back and found that Gong Yu and Na'er were still asleep, so she made a shushing gesture to her sisters too.
About ten minutes later, Na'er woke. She now had a different quality about her, one that was hard to describe but inexplicably made others want to draw closer.
A few minutes later, two beams of light suddenly shot from Gong Yu's eyes as he continued meditating, giving everyone around him a fright.
One beam was red and the other blue. They had shot out instinctively, beyond Gong Yu's control, and struck a stone wall some twenty meters away.
Chapter 73: Flames in the Left Eye, Ice in the Right
Struck by Gong Yu's red and blue gazes, the stone wall instantly fractured, and pieces of rock fell away.
The broken stones were different, however, with a clear distinction between them. Those struck by the blue light were coated in ice, while those struck by the red light had been burned into lime.
Gong Yu slowly opened his eyes. As he did, patterns of ice and fire appeared in his pupils: flames in his left eye and ice in his right.
He turned his head and looked to either side, only then realizing that he was the last to wake.
He stood, walked over to the girls, and smiled. "How much did you all gain?"
The most lively of them, Gong Xue, immediately jumped forward. "Me first, me first!"
Everyone was used to Gong Xue's desire to show off, so Gong Yu nodded.
Gong Xue said, "Hehe, first of all, my Soul Power has reached level thirty-eight, and my Martial Soul has evolved too. Let me show you what I can do. Martial Soul Possession!"
Gong Xue had already reached level thirty-three before coming here. After taking the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower, she had advanced five levels straight to level thirty-eight.
As her words fell, Gong Xue's thoughts stirred. With a cry, a huge five-colored bird that resembled a phoenix, yet was different from one, shot into the sky from her body. It circled twice before flying back and possessing her.
After the possession, the five-colored bird vanished, leaving only a pair of five-colored feathered wings on Gong Xue's back.
"Your Martial Soul evolved into a phoenix, but why does it look like a chicken?" Gong Miaomiao asked from the side. What puzzled her was that Gong Xue's Martial Soul was multicolored but didn't look like a phoenix. It looked more like some unknown kind of five-colored, long-tailed chicken, or perhaps a five-colored, long-tailed bird.
Gong Xue instantly bristled. "You're a chicken! You're the chicken! Your Martial Soul is the chicken!"
Gong Miaomiao looked disdainful and promptly dragged the conversation off course again. "I wonder who was foolish enough to forget she had a flying-type Martial Soul while crossing the cliff today and had to let Sister Bi Ji carry her across. And you say it's not a chicken Martial Soul? Even a chicken is better than you."
"You..." Gong Xue was left speechless by the retort. Then, huffing with anger, she repeated, "You're a chicken! You're the chicken! Your whole family..."
Before she could finish the insult, the moment she said "whole family," Gong Lan glared at her. "Hmm? If you dare say 'whole family' again, I'll beat you up."
"I... Hmph, fine, I won't say it." Gong Xue then looked at Gong Yu, a little aggrieved.
Gong Yu smiled awkwardly. The palm and the back of his hand were both flesh; it wouldn't do to take either side. He could only smooth things over. "All right, let's talk about Martial Souls and leave everything else aside for now. As for Xiao Xue's Martial Soul, it hasn't actually evolved into a phoenix. It's evolved into a Luan Bird."
"What's a Luan Bird?" Gong Xue looked at Gong Yu curiously. She didn't actually know what her own Martial Soul was either.
Hearing this, the girls all turned to Gong Yu.
Gong Yu recalled the description of the Luan Bird in the Classic of Mountains and Seas from his previous life: Three hundred li to the southwest lies Mount Nüchuang. Its southern slopes abound in red copper, its northern slopes in black mineral. Among its beasts are many tigers, leopards, rhinoceroses, and wild buffalo. A bird dwells there, shaped like a pheasant and bearing five-colored markings. It is called the Luan Bird, and when it appears, peace reigns under heaven.
He told the girls, "The Luan Bird is an auspicious bird. Its appearance foretells peace under heaven."
After hearing Gong Yu's explanation, Na'er spoke up. "Wouldn't that make the Luan Bird an Auspicious Beast, equivalent to the emperor Auspicious Beast of the Soul Beast Realm, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion?"
"You could say that," Gong Yu continued. "A Luan Bird looks like a long-tailed pheasant, but it has five-colored markings.
"The Luan Bird and the phoenix are connected by countless threads. One account says the Luan Bird is an immature phoenix; another says it is another name for the phoenix; and yet another says they are different kinds of auspicious birds."
Gong Xue asked, "Then which is stronger, the phoenix or the Luan Bird?"
"They've never fought, so who knows?" Gong Yu rolled his eyes at her. "There was once a story about a Luan Bird."
Hearing that there was a story, the girls pricked up their ears and fell quiet.
Gong Yu began, "Legend has it that long ago, a king captured a Luan Bird and became very fond of it.
"But from the moment it was captured, the Luan Bird didn't make a sound. The king and those around him tried everything. They even gave it a golden cage and fed it delicacies from the mountains and seas. They kept at it for three years, but the Luan Bird still would not sing.
"Later, the queen heard that a Luan Bird would only sing when it saw another of its kind, so she suggested putting it in front of a mirror.
"The king followed her advice. To his surprise, when the Luan Bird saw itself in the mirror, it truly did let out a mournful cry that rang beyond the nine heavens. In the end, it died of grief and indignation."
After hearing the story, the girls couldn't help feeling a wave of sorrow.
Gong Xue said gloomily, "It was a bird. It longed to dance with its companions, to fly high in the sky, to be free. What meaning could a cage have for it, even a golden one?"
As the owner of a bird Martial Soul, Gong Xue seemed to feel the Luan Bird's plight as if it were her own.
"All right, it's only a story. Let's get back to the subject," Gong Yu continued. "Strictly speaking, Xiao Xue's Martial Soul can't be considered a true Luan Bird. It evolved from a Fire Kite, so at most it's a Luan Kite. But its flames are extremely powerful, in no way inferior to Phoenix Flame."
"Then whose flames are stronger, mine or Sixth Sister's Ultimate Fire?" Gong Xue always managed to ask inappropriate questions at inappropriate times. Was that the kind of question she could ask right in Sixth Sister's face? She was asking for a beating.
With the two of them there, Gong Yu couldn't side with either. If he said one was stronger, the other might refuse to accept it; if he said the other was stronger, the first might refuse to accept it too.
Fortunately, Sixth Sister Gong Niuniu immediately saw Gong Yu's awkward predicament and spoke first. "I'm level forty now. If you want to know whose flames are stronger, why don't we have a contest?"
A trace of a contemptuous smile appeared on Gong Niuniu's lips. Ever since sensing Gong Xue's flames earlier, she had known her own were stronger, but she hadn't wanted to steal Gong Xue's thunder, so she had shown nothing. Now Gong Xue had challenged her first, so she couldn't be blamed.
Gong Niuniu spun in place, and nine colors rose and coiled around her from beneath her feet. She turned her right palm in a circle through the air and brought it back to her chest. An amethyst lamp surrounded by nine-colored halos appeared in her palm.
"Huh... That's not right!" Gong Lan was observant, and as soon as she noticed the subtle change in Gong Niuniu, she called out.
"What's not right?" Gong Xiao asked beside her.
"None of you noticed?" Gong Lan looked at her younger sisters in puzzlement, then at Gong Yu.
Gong Yu nodded and looked at Na'er. They exchanged knowing smiles, then said the same two words at once: "Ten colors."
Chapter 74: Ten-Colored Amethyst Lamp
After Gong Yu and Na'er spoke in unison, Gong Lan smiled faintly, while the other girls were all surprised.
Gong Xue stood, walked a circle around Gong Niuniu, and said, "Yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple, orange, red, white, gold-that's still nine colors!"
"You're color-blind," Gong Miaomiao shot back. After Gong Yu and Na'er's hint, she had already spotted the change in Gong Niuniu and her Martial Soul.
"You're color-blind," Gong Xue retorted, though her face showed a trace of embarrassment. She really hadn't noticed any change in Gong Niuniu.
"All right, stop it, you two." Gong Lan couldn't bear to watch her two younger sisters snapping at each other any longer, so she stepped in to smooth things over. "There's clearly a rather wide gap between the red and white, wide enough for another color. It's just that the color doesn't stand out much under the red light."
Hearing this, Gong Xue immediately leaned closer and finally spotted it. "It's, it's, it's... it's pink!" she shouted.
"At least you're not stupid," Gong Miaomiao remarked mildly.
"Hmph..." Gong Xue snorted and turned her head away.
No one paid the two of them any mind as they sulked. They would make up again soon enough anyway.
Gong Yu said, "Niuniu's Martial Soul no longer has nine colors, but ten. From now on, it should be called the Ten-Colored Amethyst Lamp."
Gong Niuniu then said to Gong Xue, "Come on. Didn't you want to know whose flames are stronger? Let's have a contest. Once we do, you'll know."
