The Daoist Realm
"Master, I've learned it." Holding the Evil-Dispelling Talisman he had just drawn, Lin Yu went to find Uncle Nine.
"Wh... what?! Let me see." Shocked, Uncle Nine took the yellow talisman from Lin Yu and examined it carefully.
He could sense that it was indeed a yellow talisman, but it contained only a trace of spiritual Qi. It was the first time Uncle Nine had ever seen a talisman like this.
Normally, if someone didn't have enough spiritual Qi, they couldn't possibly draw a talisman successfully. The result would be a complete failure. But Lin Yu's talisman, though a yellow talisman, didn't contain enough spiritual Qi to meet the standard.
Yet if he said it wasn't one, its quality was plain to see. How strange, how strange.
If Lin Yu had known what Uncle Nine was thinking, he would certainly have said this was the bug that came with comprehending the Way of Talismans.
"X... Xiao Yu, are you sure you just drew this?" Although the cinnabar on the yellow talisman hadn't dried yet, Uncle Nine still couldn't believe it.
"Mm. How about I draw another one for you to see?" Lin Yu asked with an innocent expression. He wasn't about to miss this chance to show off.
"Draw another one and let me see." Uncle Nine handed Lin Yu the brush he had just used.
Lin Yu took the brush, and his little hand moved casually over the yellow talisman paper as though he were painting. In one smooth stroke, another yellow talisman appeared before Uncle Nine's eyes.
"You..." Uncle Nine was so shocked that he couldn't speak for a moment.
"Master, take it easy. There's no rush." Startled, Lin Yu hurriedly patted Uncle Nine's back to help him catch his breath.
"Sigh. Take this book and go read it somewhere else. I want some peace and quiet." Uncle Nine tossed Lin Yu a copy of the Complete Compendium of Maoshan Talismans and sent him away.
"Ahem, looks like I showed off a little too much. I scared Master." Seeing Uncle Nine's dumbstruck expression, Lin Yu held back a laugh.
"Oh." Lin Yu felt he shouldn't provoke him any further, so he answered and walked away with the book in his arms.
"Hahaha!" Not long after Lin Yu left, Uncle Nine finally couldn't hold it in anymore. Like Fan Jin when he passed the imperial examination, he grabbed the two talismans Lin Yu had drawn and ran into the house.
Ancestral masters above, I, Lin Jiu, have finally found Maoshan a monstrous disciple!
Uncle Nine ran to the portraits of the ancestral masters and respectfully offered them incense.
If Lin Yu had a shock system, he would have found that he had earned at least ten thousand shock points in that short time.
While Uncle Nine was offering incense to the ancestral masters, Lin Jiu disturbed the ancestral masters of Maoshan.
They had originally wanted to see just what kind of monstrous disciple he had found. If the disciple wasn't a monster, they would show this grand-disciple of Maoshan what was coming to him.
After seeing the two flawless talismans Lin Jiu presented and learning what had happened, they were shocked too.
Back in their day, even the most gifted among them would have barely managed to draw one in such a short time.
After showing off his disciple, Uncle Nine returned to his rocking chair and lay down.
He was now like a man in his post-nut clarity, feeling neither joy nor sorrow. He just wanted to lie there.
"Ow!" But less than a second after he lay down, the back of his head felt as though someone had slapped it. Uncle Nine ducked his head in fright.
"Your disciple knows his mistake. Farewell, ancestral masters." Lin Jiu hurriedly bowed toward the portraits and admitted his mistake.
What kind of grand-disciple summoned his ancestral masters, showed off to them, and then lay down to enjoy himself? Whether they were angry or jealous, Lin Jiu had been slapped all the same.
After sensing no further movement, Uncle Nine rubbed his head and went out to check on Wen Cai and Qiu Sheng.
The result was easy to imagine. The two had fallen asleep at their little desks, their faces covered in all sorts of scribbles.
"Hmph."
Uncle Nine: I'm inside getting lectured by the ancestral masters, and look at you two, sleeping so comfortably.
He picked up a cane lying nearby and strode menacingly toward them.
Still asleep, the two suddenly shivered, turned over, and went on sleeping.
Meanwhile, Lin Yu had returned to his room with the book in his arms. He had nothing to do for the moment, and he didn't know when the plot would begin. After all, he had been here for over a week and hadn't heard anything about the Ren family moving a grave.
"I'll go chat in the group." With no plot to follow and the spiritual Qi around him still not replenished enough to cultivate, Lin Yu had nothing to do, so he went into the chat group to pass the time.
Lin Yu opened the chat panel to see if anything had happened today.
After looking for a while, he didn't see anything useful. Hardly anyone had sent any messages. It seemed people from ancient times didn't enjoy chatting in groups as much as modern people did.
Suddenly, Lin Yu remembered that he hadn't checked in today. He opened the check-in page and prepared to do so.
[Ding~ Congratulations to group member Lin Yu on receiving 150 points for checking in!]
Lin Yu's check-in brought the people who were online out of hiding.
[Huang Rong: Wow ✪ω✪, let me soak up some of that good luck! Sucking it in like crazy.GIF] [Omniscient and Omnipotent: How come I, the group owner, didn't get as much as you? I only got 20 points from checking in today!] [Huang Rong: Seriously. Apart from my first check-in, I haven't gotten more than 100 points. I'm so jealous.] [Lin Yu: Don't you all have anything to do? Why are you all online?] [Omniscient and Omnipotent: Nothing going on here for now. Speaking of which, Xiao Yu, has the plot started over there yet?] [Lin Yu: I don't know either. I've been at the funeral home for a week, and I haven't heard anything about the Ren family coming to ask my master to move a grave.] [Omniscient and Omnipotent: Then there should still be some time before the plot starts. You need to hurry up and cultivate. Otherwise, if the plot starts and something unexpected happens, you might not make it.] [Huang Rong: Group owner, don't jinx him! Our Xiao Yu is only eight. Don't curse him to death.] [Zhang Sanfeng: Exactly, exactly.]
Not long after Su Xiaoxiao sent that message, all the group members came out of hiding.
[Omniscient and Omnipotent: I... what did I do? I'm just being kind and looking out for a group member's safety, okay?] [Lin Yu: Sigh, it's not that I don't want to cultivate. There's too little spiritual Qi in my world. After cultivating for a little while each day, I have to stop and wait for it to gather again.] [Omniscient and Omnipotent: Actually, you can use points to improve your strength too, but it takes a lot of them.] [Huang Rong: It really does. I spent 50 points just to rise from a second-rate expert to the Postnatal Realm. It costs way too many points! I worked so hard to save those up. The few martial arts manuals I uploaded only sold for 50 points, you know. Sobbing.jpg] [Lin Yu: Oh, thanks for the reminder. Let me take a look.]
System, use points to raise my cultivation, Lin Yu said silently.
[Ding~ Spend 10 points to advance to the Early Daoist Novice Stage?]
As soon as Lin Yu selected confirm, he felt a stream of spiritual Qi well up inside him out of nowhere. It circulated and refined itself along the path of his cultivation technique. Once it reached a certain level, the refined spiritual Qi flowed into his dantian.
His realm also advanced to the Early Daoist Novice Stage.
"Whew, that's so convenient. There's none of the instability that comes right after a breakthrough. Amazing." After breaking through, Lin Yu breathed out, savoring the pleasure it brought.
"Keep going, keep going!" Lin Yu was starting to love the feeling of breaking through. It felt so good. He still had plenty of spiritual Qi, anyway, so he kept going.
[You spent 20 points to break through to the Middle Daoist Novice Stage.] [You spent 40 points to break through to the Late Daoist Novice Stage.] [You spent 100 points to break through to the Early Daoist Stage.]
"Feels so good.gif." Lin Yu went straight to the Daoist Realm in one go, and the pleasure reached its peak all at once.
Finally, Lin Yu collapsed onto the bed, twitching.
After all, no normal immortal cultivator had ever been seen advancing so much in one go. Even if someone did, it would be because they had obtained a fortuitous encounter and forced their cultivation higher, which was very painful. Unlike Lin Yu, who didn't have to worry about an unstable foundation, felt no pain, and felt great besides.
Though perhaps it had felt a little too good.
