History
Ancient Power and Decline
The Dragon Clan was one of the three ancient clans, alongside the Phoenix and Qilin clans. Under the Ancestral Dragon, it ranked among the Primordial World’s great ruling powers. The Ancestral Dragon died during the Dragon-Han Calamity, and the clan’s ancient prosperity collapsed 7 35.
The three clans’ immense slaughter left unresolved karmic burdens. Their surviving descendants possessed only fragments of their original bloodlines, while the Heavenly Dao and powerful beings opposed the reappearance of true bloodlines. The dragons nevertheless retained greater numbers and a more secure homeland than the surviving phoenixes and qilin 17 32.
By Yu the Great’s era, the Dragon Kings could no longer stabilize the Four Seas. Yu and other experts forged four divine weapons to calm the seas and prevent devastating floods 20 34.
Subordination to Haotian Shangdi
Haotian enforced obedience through slaughter, serving dragons as delicacies at banquets for powerful beings. Ao Guang claimed that Haotian had eaten nearly half the clan over the years 17 19.
Under Haotian’s orders, the dragons manipulated rainfall to hasten Yin Shang’s decline. Di Xin’s use of Words Followed by Law reversed the droughts and floods without their assistance, bypassing their weather control 12 15.
The Ancestral Dragon’s Return
Ye Xuan freed the Ancestral Dragon’s corpse from beneath Great Mount Sumeru, destroying the mountain as the body emerged. Nuwa prevented Zhunti from intervening, insisting that the Ancestral Dragon belonged to the East 7.
Ye Xuan subsequently promised to protect the Dragon Clan and help it rise again. This fulfilled his system mission and granted him the Ancestral Dragon’s bloodline and control over the corpse 9.
Submission to the Human Emperor
Disguised as the Human Emperor’s envoy Wuming, Ye Xuan confronted Ao Guang in the East Sea. He condemned the clan’s destructive weather manipulation and offered protection in exchange for submission 16 17.
Ye Xuan displayed the Ancestral Dragon’s body and stated that the forefather had entrusted the clan’s protection to the Human Emperor. Faced with that proof and the threat of annihilation, Ao Guang pledged the entire clan’s loyalty. He then swore an oath that formed a karmic bond of the Great Dao 18 19.
After receiving the essence blood that restored his True Dragon bloodline, Ao Guang rejected further allegiance to Haotian and prepared to visit Chaoge with gifts 19 20.
Public Allegiance at Chaoge
Ao Guang arrived at Chaoge by the Human Emperor’s command, publicly demonstrating the clan’s submission. He presented provisions, spiritual weapons, ten young dragon women, and the four sea-stabilizing divine weapons 32 33 34.
Di Xin offered protection, access to human fortune, and authority over the inland waters. In return, the clan was required to maintain favorable weather and fight when humanity needed it. Ao Guang proclaimed the Four Seas Dragon Clan’s allegiance before heaven and earth, invoking annihilation upon the clan if it broke its oath 35.
Di Xin declared that he would shelter the dragons and lead them to redeem their crimes through meritorious deeds. Yuanshi Tianzun challenged his decision, provoking a confrontation that ended with Di Xin suppressing the Saint’s Three Treasures Jade Ruyi 35 36 41.
Heavenly Court Retaliation
Haotian treated the change of allegiance as rebellion. Taibai Jinxing connected Ao Guang’s restored bloodline with the missing Ancestral Dragon’s corpse and suspected the Human Emperor’s involvement 50.
Haotian dispatched the Heaven-Supporting Strongman to demand that Ao Guang report to the Heavenly Court for punishment, threatening to raze the Four Seas if he refused. The strongman reaches the East Sea, but the confrontation remains unresolved in the supplied chapters 50.
