Background / History
Transmigration and the Journey West
Ye Xuan comes from a later age and is familiar with the legends of the Primordial World and the Investiture of the Gods. He awakens as Di Xin just after the emperor has written an insulting poem in Nuwa’s temple. Knowing that this incident begins the catastrophe surrounding Yin Shang, he refuses to submit passively to his expected fate 1 10.
When Nuwa’s will descends, he draws the Human Emperor Supreme Sword and invokes imperial fortune. This awakens the Hongmeng Corpse-Driving System, whose first mission requires him to rescue the Ancestral Dragon’s suppressed corpse beneath Great Mount Sumeru and fulfill its wish to protect the Dragon Clan 1.
Unknown to Ye Xuan, Nuwa hears his thoughts about Zhunti manipulating Di Xin. After confirming the scheme, she takes him west. He denounces Zhunti’s manipulation and theft of merit, then rallies the watching eastern powers to support Nuwa 1 2 3.
Raising the Ancestral Dragon
While Nuwa and Zhunti fight, Ye Xuan follows the system’s directions through an ancient well beneath Mount Sumeru. His imperial fortune allows him to pass through the restrictions guarding the underground cavern. There, he opens his beginner package and learns his corpse-driving technique 4.
He raises the Ancestral Dragon and inscribes a Tongtian Talisman on its head, establishing a mental connection that makes the corpse obey him. He subsequently uses the Purple Gold Bell to bring it out from beneath Mount Sumeru, collapsing the Western Teachings’ sacred mountain. Nuwa and Yuanshi Tianzun prevent the Western Saints from stopping its escape 5 7 8.
Ye Xuan hides the corpse in his system space. Back in Chaoge, he solemnly promises to protect and revive the Dragon Clan, completing the mission and obtaining its ancestor’s bloodline and formal control over the corpse 8 9.
Restoring Yin Shang
Ye Xuan identifies four priorities: strengthen Yin Shang’s fortune, secretly increase his own strength, build forces personally loyal to him, and secure alliances with Saints. He regards national prosperity as protection, since stronger human fortune makes the Saints more reluctant to attack him 10.
At his first court session, he learns that three years of floods, droughts, locusts, and plagues have brought the population toward starvation. He attributes the abnormal weather to the Dragon Kings acting under Haotian Shangdi’s orders, then invokes Words Followed by Law to restore weather conditions without their assistance 11 12 15.
| Initiative | Measures |
|---|---|
| Food supply | Gives Shang Rong drawings of more than one hundred food plants to locate; assigns Bi Gan to disaster relief and grain distribution 13 14. |
| Military equipment | Designs saddles, stirrups, and crossbows; orders Huang Feihu to supervise a factory for their development and manufacture 13 14. |
| Crossbow variants | Proposes a soldier-carried model that fires six arrows at once, a war-elephant-mounted model, and a large wall-mounted weapon for enormous targets 14. |
| Internal security | Assigns Huang Feihu sixty thousand elite imperial guards alongside the elephant cavalry to suppress bandits, dangerous creatures, and rebellious lords 14. |
| Recruitment and deterrence | Orders the army to recruit useful talent, intimidate the vassal lords, and support Wen Zhong’s northern campaign from afar 14. |
His reforms, grain distribution, and military patrols improve the dynasty’s stability and fortune. After discovering evidence of ties between Jizhou and Xiqi, he also positions Huang Feihu’s forces near Jizhou to prepare for possible rebellion 21 31.
Securing the Dragon Clan
Disguised as Wuming, the Human Emperor’s envoy, Ye Xuan visits the East Sea and intimidates Ao Guang with his Daluo Golden Immortal presence. He reveals the Ancestral Dragon’s body, condemns the clan’s role in Yin Shang’s disasters, and offers imperial protection in exchange for submission. Ao Guang pledges the Dragon Clan’s loyalty 16 18.
Ye Xuan combines threats with rewards, presenting Ao Guang with a powerful drop of golden essence blood after his surrender. He also requests the four divine irons that stabilize the seas 19 20.
Ao Guang later brings food, Postnatal Spiritual Treasures, ten Dragon Clan women, and the four sea-stabilizing weapons to Chaoge. Ye Xuan accepts Wushuang and the other women as hostages and representatives of the clan’s allegiance 33 34.
Jizhou and the Yuanfeng Mission
Fei Zhong’s proposal to bring Su Daji into the palace prompts Ye Xuan to investigate Jizhou personally. He intends to assess Su Hu’s loyalty and recruit Zheng Lun before the coming tribulation claims him 21.
At a lakeside gathering, he discovers Bo Yikao’s connection to Jizhou and rebukes the young nobles criticizing Di Xin. Once recognized as the Human Emperor, he passes over Su Daji and recruits Zheng Lun instead 22 25 26.
On his return journey, he shelters the wounded Kong Xuan from Daoist Duobao and Golden Spirit Holy Mother. Their encounter activates a second system mission: locate Yuanfeng’s corpse and fulfill her dying wish. However, Kong Xuan leaves before Ye Xuan can ask about the burial site, leaving the mission unresolved 29 30 31.
Confrontation with Yuanshi Tianzun
Yuanshi Tianzun rebukes Ye Xuan for sheltering the Dragon Clan under humanity’s fortune. Ye Xuan rejects the Saint’s authority over his decisions and publicly accuses him of scheming against Tongtian through the Investiture of the Gods 36.
His insults eventually provoke Yuanshi into throwing the Three Treasures Jade Ruyi at Chaoge. Tongtian’s Qingping Sword intercepts it, while Nuwa’s Red Embroidered Ball also appears to protect Ye Xuan. He then invokes human fortune to cut off the Ruyi’s support from Yuanshi and suppress it 37 38 40 41.
Ye Xuan deliberately sought to provoke an attack, hoping to turn the resulting karmic debt into a heart demon for Yuanshi. The Saint instead publicly describes the captured treasure as a temporary loan and demands its eventual return at Kunlun, frustrating Ye Xuan’s larger plan 41.
Establishing the Green Mound Shadow Guards
When Su Daji reaches Chaoge, Ye Xuan exposes her connection to the Nine-Tails Demon Fox. He learns that the Fox Lord of Green Mound has fused with the human Su Daji rather than simply occupying her body 44.
Initially suspicious that Nuwa has sent her to destroy Yin Shang, he questions her purpose and the strength of her lineage. After learning that Green Mound has approximately one hundred thousand intelligent foxes, including sixty thousand capable of human form, he recruits them for an intelligence organization. He names it the Green Mound Shadow Guards and appoints Su Daji its leader 45 47.
Appearance
- Build: Tall and slender, approximately 1.9 metres in height 2.
- Face and bearing: Handsome, with a commanding imperial presence 2 25.
- Imperial clothing: Appears in a black imperial robe during the journey to Mount Sumeru 2.
- Wuming disguise: Wears a large black cloak with a high standing collar and a demonic mask, replacing his regal appearance with a fierce, mysterious one 4 15.
- Yin-Yang manifestation: During his confrontation with Yuanshi, black Qi gathers in his left eye while white light flickers in his right 37.
Personality
Ye Xuan is defiant toward divine authority, insisting that the Human Emperor has the right to govern and choose whom to protect without a Saint’s permission. His concern for ordinary people also shapes his policies: he prioritizes food relief and challenges nobles who condemn Di Xin’s executions without considering the victims of the condemned lords 10 13 25 36.
His public boldness is often calculated rather than fearless. He exploits the Saints’ disputes to rescue the Ancestral Dragon, conceals his cultivation behind Wuming, and deliberately provokes Yuanshi to create a karmic advantage. Nevertheless, the confrontation leaves his back soaked with cold sweat 3 4 21 41.
He is vindictive and exceptionally sharp-tongued. Even after Nuwa settles her grievance with the Western Saints, he considers his own debt unpaid and uses the Ancestral Dragon’s escape to humiliate them 3 7 37.
Ye Xuan is also flirtatious and readily captivated by beauty, particularly Nuwa and Wushuang. Attraction does not erase his political caution: he demands Wushuang’s personal allegiance and initially distrusts Su Daji despite her appearance and willingness to serve 9 16 43 45.
