The first rays of dawn streamed through Tenshukaku's lattice windows, falling across the rumpled bed.
Baichen could barely breathe under the weight pressing down on him-Ei's arm lay across his waist,
while Makoto clung to him from behind like an octopus. The sisters' long purple hair mingled together, covering half the pillow.
"Mmph... It's morning..." Baichen tried to wriggle free, only for Ei to hold him even tighter.
"Sleep a little longer." Ei's voice was husky with sleep, and she didn't even open her eyes.
Makoto, on the other hand, was awake. Smiling, she poked Baichen's cheek.
"Did you sleep well, Little Baichen?"
She leaned close to the boy's ear and lowered her voice. "How did it feel to be sandwiched between two Electro Archons?"
Her warm breath brushed his sensitive ear, and Baichen's ear tip turned crimson in an instant.
He stammered, "I-it was okay..."
Ei suddenly opened her eyes and pulled the boy closer to her. "Move farther away,"
she told Makoto. "Your breath is blowing on him."
Makoto sighed dramatically. "Oh my, my little sister's all grown up. She won't even let her big sister get close to her boyfriend anymore~"
"He's not my boyfriend," Ei corrected her, naturally planting a kiss on Baichen's forehead. "He's my fiancé."
Baichen's eyes widened. "Huh?! Since when?!"
"Last night." Ei's expression didn't change. "I decided after you fell asleep."
Makoto clapped her hands and laughed. "How overbearing! But..." She suddenly snatched Baichen back. "Shouldn't you ask your big sister before you propose?"
Seeing sparks of lightning begin to crackle between the sisters again,
Baichen hurried to smooth things over. "I-I'll go make breakfast!" He nimbly slipped out from between them and dashed out of the room.
[Ei affection: 100% (stable)] [Raiden Makoto affection: 75% (rising)] [Host, what a sweet dilemma you have.]
(You're damn talkative, aren't you?)
In the kitchen, Baichen prepared breakfast for three while calming his racing heart.
Ei's "proposal" had come too suddenly. He knew she had always been astonishingly decisive, but this was just too...
(System, what should I do?)
[Deal with it!] [Her affection is locked at 100%. What's there to think about?] [Twin Electro Archon sisters-doesn't that sound great?] [What, are you thinking of running away?]
The system's crude words left Baichen speechless.
As he was frying eggs, a pair of soft arms wrapped around his waist from behind.
"Need a hand?" Makoto rested her chin on his shoulder, her voice as sweet as honey.
Baichen's hand trembled, and he nearly burned the eggs. "N-no need! Just go rest, Sister Makoto..."
"How could I do that~?" Makoto took the spatula from his hand. "If we let you do all the work yourself, it would make us sisters look so inconsiderate."
She deftly flipped the eggs. "Don't judge me by how I am now. Five hundred years ago, I was quite the cook~"
Indeed, Makoto's cooking skills were far more than a little better than Ei's.
Baichen breathed a sigh of relief and turned to making miso soup. The two worked together seamlessly, and soon the aroma filled the kitchen.
"Speaking of which..." Makoto suddenly lowered her voice. "Ei... didn't hurt you, did she?"
"Huh?" Baichen didn't understand at first.
Makoto blinked. "I mean... you know." She made a suggestive gesture. "She's never known her own strength, even as a child. I'm worried she might not know when to hold back..."
Baichen's face instantly turned as red as a cooked crab. "N-no! Ei was very gentle..."
"Really?" Makoto smiled meaningfully. "Then I can rest easy~"
At some point, Ei had appeared in the doorway. She watched the two whispering with a cold expression. "What are you talking about?"
"It's a secret~" Makoto winked playfully and put the eggs on a plate. "Come and taste your big sister's cooking!"
Breakfast unfolded in a peculiar atmosphere.
Ei insisted on feeding Baichen fruit, while Makoto insisted on putting food on his plate;
when Ei wiped his mouth, Makoto immediately handed him tea.
The sisters fussed over Baichen like he was a doll. By the time the meal was over, he was more tired than after martial arts practice.
"What's the plan for today?" Makoto asked eagerly after breakfast.
Ei straightened her cuffs. "Government affairs."
Makoto pursed her lips. "It's been five hundred years, and you're still this boring."
She grabbed Baichen's hand. "Come on, I'll take you out to have fun!"
"He's going to help me with government affairs." Ei seized Baichen's other hand.
"Oh, what's so interesting about those documents~?" Makoto tugged the boy toward her. "Who do you want to spend time with, Little Baichen?"
Baichen was pulled back and forth like a tug-of-war rope, wishing he could cry.
In the end, Ei compromised: he would help her with government affairs in the morning and spend the afternoon having fun with Makoto.
[Status acquired: sisters' tug-of-war] [This really is a bittersweet experience.]

In Tenshukaku's council chamber, Baichen sat obediently beside Ei, helping her sort documents.
Makoto wandered curiously around the room, exclaiming in amazement from time to time.
"This seal is so exquisite!"
"Ei, you can write such neat annotations? Your handwriting used to look like chicken scratches..."
A vein bulged on Ei's forehead. "Quiet."
Makoto stuck out her tongue and sidled up to Baichen. "Little Baichen, is Ei always this fierce?"
Baichen stole a glance at Ei and whispered, "Actually, Ei is very gentle..."
Makoto grinned mischievously. "Really? Like how?"
"Well..." Baichen thought back. "She remembers what foods I like, and she holds me when I have nightmares, and she also..."
Ei suddenly coughed, the tips of her ears slightly red. "Focus on your work."
Makoto smiled like a fox that had stolen a chicken. "Oh my, my little sister has really learned how to dote on someone~"
The afternoon belonged to Makoto.
Since she couldn't leave Tenshukaku, she took Baichen to explore every corner of the enormous building.
"This used to be a training ground!" Makoto pointed at what was now the garden. "Ei used to fall and get covered in bruises here all the time."
"This room used to be a study. That girl would fall asleep whenever she picked up a book, and her drool ruined so many ancient texts~"
"Ah! I planted this Thunder Sakura myself! It's grown so big!"
Like a happy butterfly, Makoto flitted about the familiar place she called home.
Baichen followed her, listening to stories that had lain buried for five hundred years.
It was as if he could see Ei as she had been long ago-clumsy and stubborn, yet so adorable it tugged at his heart.
"Sister Makoto..." he couldn't help asking, "what was Ei like before?"
Makoto's gaze softened. "She was a crybaby."
She gently stroked the Thunder Sakura's rough bark. "She pretended to be strong on the outside, but she was more sensitive than anyone.
She wouldn't cry when she hurt herself practicing swordsmanship, but if I said a few words to her, the tears would fall..."
Baichen found it hard to imagine what the dignified Raiden Shogun had once been like, and his heart melted.
"That's why," Makoto said, suddenly turning around and cupping Baichen's face in her hands, "thank you for accepting Ei as she is."
She gently rested her forehead against the boy's. "Please keep loving her from now on... and me too."
The sudden confession made Baichen's heart race. Makoto's eyes were close to his, her purple irises so like Ei's, brimming with tenderness and anticipation.
"I..."
"What are you doing?"
Ei's voice came from behind them, cold as an icicle in the depths of winter.
Makoto grinned and let Baichen go. "Getting closer to each other~"
Ei strode over and pulled Baichen behind her. "Stay away from him."
"Jealous?"
Makoto poked her little sister's puffed-up cheek.
"You used to say, 'My big sister is the most important person'~"
"That was before."
Ei was unmoved. "Now he's the most important."
Makoto pretended to wipe away tears of sorrow. "A grown daughter can't be kept at home..."
The sisters' exchange made Baichen laugh.
Ei shot him a glare, and he quickly pressed his lips together, but he couldn't hide the laughter in his eyes.
[Raiden Makoto affection +5%, current affection: 80%] [Ei affection: 100% (stable)] [You really are receiving twice the affection.]
(Isn't that great?)
That evening, the three admired the blossoms in the courtyard.
Makoto enthusiastically suggested playing karuta. Though Ei looked reluctant, she joined in anyway.
Sitting between the sisters, Baichen stared openmouthed at their learning-they could both recite those obscure waka poems backward.
"I won!" Makoto cheered, holding up the last card. "Little Baichen has to give me a reward!"
Ei immediately objected. "No."
"Then will you give me a reward in Little Baichen's place?"
"...What reward?"
Makoto smiled slyly. "Tell me where Little Baichen likes you to kiss him most~"
Baichen sprayed the tea from his mouth and burst into a coughing fit.
Ei's ears flushed bright red. She grabbed a dango and stuffed it into Makoto's mouth. "Shut up."
As the night grew late, Baichen soaked in the hot spring to ease the day's fatigue.
Through the drifting steam, he heard the sliding door gently open-it was Makoto.
She wore nothing but a bath towel, and her slender legs gleamed like pearls in the moonlight.
"Do you mind if I join you?" she asked, though she had already stepped into the spring.
Baichen hurriedly scooted aside. "P-please, go ahead..."
Makoto sighed contentedly and leaned against the edge of the pool. "It's been so long since I soaked in Tenshukaku's hot spring..." She turned to Baichen. "Little Baichen, could you tell me more about Ei? About these past five hundred years..."
Baichen nodded and began with Ei's succession as the Electro Archon, then spoke of the establishment of the Vision Hunt Decree and the changes that came afterward... Makoto listened quietly, the emotions in her eyes too complicated to read.
"That girl... it must have been hard for her," she said softly, her fingers stirring the water absently.
Baichen was about to comfort her when the sliding door was yanked open again-Ei stood in the doorway, her expression terrifyingly dark.
"Get. Out." She spoke to Makoto one word at a time.
Makoto blinked innocently. "Let's soak together~ Didn't we do this all the time when we were little?"
"That was when we were little."
Ei strode over, scooped Baichen out of the water, and wrapped him in a bath towel. "Not now."
Watching her little sister guard what was hers, Makoto suddenly smiled. "Ei, what do you like about Little Baichen?"
Ei paused and looked down at the boy in her arms.
Baichen looked up curiously as well, waiting for her answer.
"...Everything." After a long while, Ei spoke softly. "The way he smiles, the way he looks when he's shy, and..." Her voice grew quieter and quieter. "The way he looks in my arms..."
The frank answer turned Baichen red all over, like a cooked shrimp.
Makoto smiled, gratified. "That's wonderful." She rose and left the hot spring. "I'll leave Little Baichen to you tonight~"
Late at night, with all around them quiet, Baichen lay held tightly in Ei's arms.
Her breath brushed his neck, tickling him a little.
"Ei..." he called softly.
"...Mm."
"Were you happy today? Sister Makoto came back..."
Ei was silent for a moment before holding him even tighter. "...Mm." After a pause, she added, "Thank you."
Those simple words warmed Baichen's heart.
He turned and wrapped his arms around Ei, gently kissing her lips. "I'll always stay with you both... Ei and Sister Makoto..."
Ei's gaze softened.
She lowered her head and deepened the kiss...
Ei's kiss was gentler than usual, filled with a deep possessiveness.
She gently undid Baichen's clothes.
Her movements were light, as if she feared breaking a piece of precious porcelain, yet they carried an irresistible forcefulness.
When the two finally parted, Ei sighed in satisfaction.
"Mine," she declared, interlacing her fingers with his. "Forever."
"Go to sleep." Ei kissed his sweat-dampened forehead. "Tomorrow... we'll be together too."
[Ei's affection: 100% (stable)] [Status gained: Deep Mark]
Baichen fell fast asleep in Ei's embrace, a blissful smile still on his lips.
Outside the window, Thunder Sakura petals drifted down in the wind, as if witnessing this bond.
