The dazzling violet light gradually faded, leaving the room filled with the distinctive fragrance of Thunder Sakura.

Baichen narrowed his eyes and saw a slender figure emerge at the center of the light-

Long purple hair cascaded down her back. Her face closely resembled Ei's, but was softer, and she wore robes as white as snow, their sleeves stirring without a breeze.

Raiden Makoto slowly opened her eyes, confusion and bewilderment swirling in her pale violet pupils.

Her gaze fell first on Yae Miko, and her lips trembled. "Miko...? What happened to me...?"

"Welcome back, Makoto." Miko's voice was choked with emotion for once, and she raised her folding fan to conceal her slightly trembling lips. "It's been five hundred years."

Makoto looked down at her hands, then glanced around the room. Finally, her gaze settled on Baichen.

The boy was nervously clutching the hem of his clothes, his blue-violet eyes wide and round like those of a frightened little animal.

"And who might this be...?" Makoto tilted her head, her voice soft as water.

Miko quickly resumed her usual playful expression. "This is Little Baichen~ Your Ei's little boyfriend."

"Huh?!" Baichen's face instantly turned red to the tips of his ears. "Lady Miko, don't say things like that!"

Makoto's eyes lit up, and she leaned in to examine Baichen. "Ei's...?" She suddenly reached out and pinched the boy's cheek. "So cute! He's smaller than I imagined~"

The sudden intimate gesture left Baichen at a loss.

Makoto's hand was soft and carried a faint trace of Electro. Her touch was similar to Ei's, yet different-warmer, and more... lively?

"H-hello, Sister Makoto..." he stammered, nearly biting his tongue.

The way he addressed her made Makoto laugh. "What a sweet talker~" She turned to Miko. "So... what's going on now? I remember I was supposed to..."

"Fall in the war in Khaenri'ah." Miko's expression grew serious. "It's five hundred years later now. Ei succeeded you as the Electro Archon." She paused. "As for how you came back to life... you'll have to ask this little one."

Two pairs of eyes turned to Baichen at once, putting him under immense pressure. The boy swallowed, his mind racing for a reasonable explanation.

"A... a mysterious person gave me an item!" He steeled himself and made up a story. "He said it could bring Sister Makoto back... I don't know who he was either..."

The explanation was full of holes and clearly failed to convince the two experienced women.

But Makoto merely smiled gently and didn't press him. "Whatever the case, thank you for giving me a new life."

She gave Baichen a gentle hug. "Could you take me to Ei? I... miss her so much."

Thinking of how Ei would react to seeing her sister, Baichen felt both excited and uneasy.

He nodded. "But... maybe we should prepare first? If you suddenly appeared, you might scare Ei..."

Miko snapped her folding fan shut. "Leave it to me." A sly gleam flashed through her foxlike eyes. "This is a perfect chance to test whether Ei's made any progress these past few hundred years~"

[Raiden Makoto's affection: 60% (initial)] [Naturally fond of little boys]

The three quietly made their way to the rear gardens of the Tenshukaku.

It was afternoon, and Ei was practicing in the courtyard, swinging her naginata as violet lightning traced brilliant arcs through the air.

Makoto watched quietly from behind a pillar in the corridor, tears glistening in her eyes.

"She's all grown up..." Makoto murmured. "She couldn't even hold a blade steady before..."

Baichen was about to say something when Miko suddenly gave him a shove. "Go on, distract Ei."

"Huh? Hey, no, wait-"

Before Baichen could protest, he was already stumbling into the courtyard.

Ei immediately stopped, and the lightning vanished in an instant.

"What brings you here?" She frowned slightly. "Didn't you say you had a surprise to prepare?"

Baichen's mind went blank.

He stood there stammering, then suddenly had an idea. "I-I want to watch you practice!"

Ei's brow relaxed a little. "It's dangerous."

"I'll watch from far away!" Baichen pressed his palms together pleadingly. "You look so cool when you practice~"

The straightforward compliment made the tips of Ei's ears turn slightly red.

She cleared her throat and turned to resume practicing, but she visibly held back her strength, and her movements became more graceful-it was almost as if she were deliberately putting on a show.

Watching from hiding, Makoto couldn't help chuckling. "Oh my, is Ei... showing off like a peacock?"

Miko nodded with a mischievous grin. "A woman in love~"

Ei finished a sequence of moves and turned around to find Baichen making faces in a certain direction.

She followed his gaze-and her violet eyes suddenly widened.

Makoto stood beneath a cherry tree, smiling and waving. "It's been a long time, Ei."

Clatter.

The naginata fell to the ground.

Ei's expression froze, and she stood rooted to the spot as though struck by lightning.

Her lips trembled, but she couldn't make a sound.

Makoto slowly walked over and gently wiped away the tears on her younger sister's face-Ei hadn't even realized she was crying.

"I'm sorry I left you alone for so long." Makoto pulled Ei into her arms. "Your sister is back."

Ei rested her chin on Makoto's shoulder, her hands clutching her sister's clothes tightly, like a child who had been lost for years and finally found her way home.

Her voice choked, she called out the name she hadn't spoken in five hundred years:

"...Makoto."

Baichen quietly stepped aside, his nose prickling.

Miko appeared beside him at some point and gently patted his shoulder:

"Well done, little one."

That night, a small family dinner was held at the Tenshukaku.

Makoto had changed into modern clothing, but still wore her hair in a classical style.

She curiously examined every detail of the room, marveling at how much had changed in five hundred years.

With her embarrassing past exposed, Ei glared at her sister in flustered indignation, only for Makoto to affectionately ruffle her hair.

Baichen snickered to himself, and Ei caught him in the act.

"You knew all along." Ei narrowed her eyes. "This so-called surprise..."

Baichen shrank back. "I wanted to surprise you..."

Makoto leaned over curiously. "So Little Baichen really did bring me back? How did you do it?"

The room suddenly fell silent.

Baichen felt three gazes land on him at once, putting him under immense pressure.

He racked his brains for a reasonable explanation when the system suddenly spoke in his mind:

[Warning! The system's existence must not be revealed!] [Suggestion: play dumb and bluff your way through]

"Well... I happened to get a really powerful artifact..." Baichen lowered his head and poked at his rice. "I don't understand how it works either..."

The explanation was clearly unsatisfactory, but Makoto merely smiled gently.

"It seems Little Baichen and I were brought together by fate~"

She suddenly pulled the boy into her arms and kissed his cheek. "From now on, big sister will take care of you!"

Ei suddenly grew a little angry and immediately snatched Baichen back. "Mine."

Makoto blinked. "Oh my, are you jealous?" She gave Ei a teasing look. "Didn't you always say, 'Big sister is mine,' when you were little? Now it's Little Baichen instead?"

Ei's ears were bright red, but her grip on Baichen didn't loosen in the slightest. Caught between the two sisters, Baichen felt both blessed and helpless.

[Ei's affection: 100% (stable)] [Raiden Makoto's affection +10%, currently 70%] [The host has found himself caught between sisters competing for his affection]

(That's pretty good too, hehe.)

After dinner, Makoto suggested a soak in the hot spring.

The private hot spring in the hills behind the Tenshukaku was surrounded by Thunder Sakura, and the petals drifting through the mist made for a breathtaking sight.

Baichen had intended to excuse himself, but they pulled him along.

"We're all family~" Makoto said as if it went without saying.

"...Mm."

For once, Ei agreed.

And so Baichen was forced to experience the most agonizing and happiest hot spring soak of his life-

Makoto was on his left and Ei on his right. The steam made him dizzy, and he could only stare fixedly at the surface of the water, not daring to look around.

"How old are you, Little Baichen?"

Makoto asked as she washed his back.

"E... eighteen..."

"You're much younger than Ei~"

Makoto chuckled.

"An old cow eating tender grass?"

Speechless, Ei splashed a faceful of water at her sister.

"Don't say things like that."

Makoto took no offense. Instead, she grew even more playful.

"Speaking of which... how far have you two gone?"

Seeing Baichen's face turn red, she suddenly realized.

"Oh~ You've hit a home run!"

"Makoto!"

Ei stood up, flushed with embarrassment and anger, lightning crackling around her.

Makoto hurriedly hid behind Baichen.

"Little Baichen, save me!"

Hot spring water splashed everywhere, and the sound of their laughter and playful shouting startled the birds roosting in the Thunder Sakura.

Caught up in the sisters' playful mood, Baichen felt a warmth and joy he'd never known before-

Is this what having a family feels like?

Late that night, Baichen lay alone in the guest room. (Makoto had insisted that Ei stay with her so they could catch up.)

As he thought back over the incredible day, the system suddenly displayed a notification:

[Main quest updated: resurrect Raiden Makoto (completed)] [Reward obtained: Electro Archon's Favor (permanent)] [Effect: Electro resistance +50%, Electro skill power +30%]

(System, there won't be any side effects from bringing Makoto back, right?)

[Relax! Everything this system produces is top quality.] [She's a normal living person now.] [Except she needs to catch up on five hundred years of common knowledge.]

Baichen breathed a sigh of relief and was just about to sleep when the door was gently pushed open.

Makoto tiptoed inside, holding a pillow in her arms.

"Sister Makoto?" Baichen sat up in surprise.

"Shh~" Makoto held a finger to her lips. "Ei's asleep." She slipped under the covers as though she belonged there. "Come chat with your sister~"

Baichen leaned against the headboard awkwardly, trying to keep his distance from Makoto.

But Makoto pulled him into her arms and held him like a doll.

"Thank you for bringing me back." Her voice suddenly grew very soft. "Seeing that Ei is doing well... I'm truly happy."

Baichen listened quietly, feeling her arms tremble slightly.

"That silly girl... she's been stubborn and prone to overthinking since she was little." Makoto stroked the boy's hair. "It's wonderful that she met you."

Just as the atmosphere turned warm, the door opened again-Ei stood in the doorway, her face dark, a pillow in her arms as well.

"Makoto." Her voice was as cold as the winds of Siberia. "Go back to your own room."

Makoto stuck out her tongue. "Stingy~ Let me hold him for a little while!"

"No."

Seeing that the lightning was about to go out of control again, Baichen hurriedly tried to smooth things over. "Um... how about we all sleep together?"

He regretted it the moment the words left his mouth. Ei and Makoto exchanged a glance and, unexpectedly, nodded at the same time.

"Sure."

And so Baichen spent yet another of the most agonizing nights of his life-

(How is anyone supposed to sleep like this?)
