Just as he was about to rush up and grab her, Selina's terminal suddenly rang.

She glanced down at the message, paused for a moment, and then turned in another direction.

Kexi's expression softened slightly.

He continued to follow, maintaining a distance from which he would not be detected.

He didn't know how long he had been following them.

Selina eventually ended up in a nursing home.

Kexi tiptoed inside.

Selina went up to the second floor, pushed open the door of a ward at the end of the corridor, and went inside.

The door wasn't closed properly; it was left a crack.

Kexi leaned against the wall outside the door, holding her breath.

A weak but gentle voice came from the ward.

"Selina, you're here to see your mom so late? Don't you have work tomorrow?"

"I got off work early today." Selina's voice softened considerably. "Mom, how are you feeling today?"

"Still the same as always." The woman on the bed coughed twice, her voice tinged with amusement. "But you, you've gotten thinner again. Have you been neglecting your meals? Look at your pointed chin, you can't even sleep well, you've got dark circles under your eyes."

"It's alright, Mom, I'm eating well. You know how well Montelli is treated, it's just that work has been a bit stressful lately, you don't need to worry."

Kexi listened as Selina spoke to her mother in a tone he had never heard before, for about ten minutes.

She omitted everything that happened that evening, only saying that she had worked overtime doing some paperwork, and then asked her mother if she had taken her medicine on time and if she felt unwell.

A little while later, the ward door was pushed open, and Selina came out.

She saw Kexi leaning against the corridor wall, completely frozen in place.

"Young Master? What happened to you—"

Before Kexi could speak, footsteps came from the other end of the corridor.

A middle-aged woman in a white coat walked over, holding a folder in her hand, her face showing a look of utter distress.

"Miss Flora, you've finally arrived." The middle-aged woman opened a folder, pulled out a bill, and handed it to Selina, her tone curt. "Your mother's bill is a month overdue. When will it be paid in full?"

Selina took the bill, then looked down and pulled an envelope from her pocket containing the money she had earned from boxing that night.

She handed the money to the middle-aged woman, her voice low. "This is fifteen thousand. Pay part of it first. Could you give me a few more days? I'll definitely gather the rest in a few days."

The middle-aged woman took the money, counted it, and then slapped the bill back into Selina's hand, her tone even more rude than before:

"Grace period? How many days have I given you already? You said the same thing last time, and the time before that. Young lady, this sanatorium isn't a charity. If you occupy this bed without paying, what will happen to the patients waiting in line?"

Selina clutched the bill tightly. "Please, just one more week. I promise I'll do it within a week—"

"One week? Not even a week." The middle-aged woman shook her head. "If you can't hand it in by tomorrow, then please pack your things and leave."

Selina's shoulders slumped.

She stood there, clutching the bill and the empty envelope, head bowed, unable to utter a single word.

"Hey, I said."

The middle-aged woman was startled and turned around. Seeing a well-dressed young man, she paused for a moment and asked, "Who are you?"

"Who do you care who I am?" Kexi strode up to the middle-aged woman, snatched the folder from her hand, and slammed it onto the chair next to her. "Who do you think you are? It's just money."

He pulled out a card and slapped it on the middle-aged woman's chest. The woman hurriedly caught it.

"Swipe this card. Pay off all the debts, and prepay for another six months. Is that enough?"

The middle-aged woman looked down at the black gold card, the highest membership level at Everard Bank, and her mouth dropped open.

"That's enough, I'll get on it right away--"

"And one more thing," Kexi called after her, pointing to the nurses' station at the end of the corridor, "Get her mother into the best possible ward. A private room, the kind with a balcony. Upgrade her rehabilitation treatment and medication to the highest standards. Money is no object, but if you dare to cut corners, I'll have the people from Montelli come and audit the accounts tomorrow."

The middle-aged woman, clutching the card, repeatedly agreed and jogged away, disappearing at the end of the corridor.

Selina stood there, staring blankly at Kexi.

From Selina's perspective, at this moment, Kexi radiated divine light, like a god descending from the heavens to save her.

Her eyes reddened again, but this time the redness was different from before. Before, it was from grievance.

Now, even she herself can't explain what it is.

"Young Master, I..."

"Don't speak yet," Kexi rubbed her temples. "I don't want to hear it right now. Go and settle your mother down first."

Selina stood in the hallway, still clutching the crumpled bill in her hand. Her lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she remained silent.

She turned and pushed open the ward door, and Kexi followed her inside.

The woman in the hospital bed heard the door open and tried to sit up, supporting herself on the edge of the bed.

Selina quickly stepped forward to support her shoulders and tucked a pillow behind her back.

"Mom, this is..." Selina paused, glancing towards Kexi as if frantically searching her mind for a suitable address.

Kexi stepped forward, bowed slightly, and her obedient expression almost made Selina think she was seeing things, "Hello, Auntie, I'm Selina's friend. Just call me Kexi."

Selina's mother sized him up.

The young man wore a well-tailored dark coat made of expensive material. He had a handsome appearance, and when he smiled, there was a subtle curve at the corners of his mouth that made him seem approachable.

Most importantly, the way her daughter looked at him was strange.

Selina had never shown such a nervous and concerned expression to any man before, from childhood to adulthood.

Selina's mother's eyes lit up.

"Xiao Ke, come sit down, come sit down." She patted the chair beside the bed, her voice weak, but she couldn't suppress her laughter. "Selina, that child, has never told me she has... friends. What do you do?"

"Helping out at the Montelli Family." Kexi sat down in a chair, her tone as natural as a neighbor visiting.

Selina's mother smiled and nodded, her gaze shifting back and forth between Kexi and Selina, growing more and more satisfied with each look.

Then she suddenly spoke, her tone carrying the certainty characteristic of an elder. "You're Selina's boyfriend, aren't you?"

The ward fell silent for a second.

Selina's face flushed red from the base of her neck to her forehead at an alarming speed.

She frantically waved her hands, her voice cracking, "Mom! No! He is—"

"Auntie, you have excellent taste," Kexi replied without batting an eye.
