A Startling Discovery in the Night
Ling Yun looked at the gift pack in the system space and decided to open it without hesitation.
"System, open the gift pack!"
As soon as he spoke, the gift pack in the system space burst into a dazzling display of light, and a series of system notifications rang out.
"Congratulations, host, on obtaining tier-one talisman paper × 30,000."
"Congratulations, host, on obtaining tier-two talisman paper × 30,000."
"Congratulations, host, on obtaining tier-nine talisman paper × 30,000!"
Looking at the various tiers of talisman paper that had come out of the gift pack, Ling Yun was momentarily dumbstruck.
Talisman paper was a medium made from various special materials to hold the power of talismans. For a talisman master, it was the most basic material needed to make talismans.
As the tier of a talisman rose, the quality of the paper used also had to improve. Although a single sheet of talisman paper was not necessarily worth much, talisman masters used thousands upon thousands of sheets at a time. The accumulated cost was more than an ordinary person could afford.
That was why nurturing a talisman master required a staggering amount of resources. But at the same time, once someone became a talisman master, they would never have to worry about resources again!
"The system really came through! It prepared so much talisman paper for me, from tier one all the way to tier nine. I won't have to worry about talisman-making resources for a long time!"
Tiers one through nine corresponded to the Body Tempering Realm through the Supreme Realm!
Ling Yun could not stop marveling.
While he was lost in thought, the gift pack yielded quite a few more things, all related to talisman making-spiritual cinnabar, talisman brushes...
Now Ling Yun had everything he needed to become a talisman master: the Immortal Physique of Myriad Daos' supreme comprehension, a Great Emperor-level talisman master inheritance, and the vast resources needed to make talismans!
"Everything is ready; all I need is the east wind."
"And I am that east wind!"
Ling Yun felt immensely satisfied, and could hardly resist studying the four True Dao inheritances that had been sitting in the system space right away.
"Hmm?"
Suddenly, Ling Yun sensed a disturbance. His expression tightened, and he moved silently into hiding, his presence vanishing completely.
His eyes flickered as he stared intently at a mountain path in the Royal Tomb Mountain Range.
Before long, two dark figures appeared in his sight!
They were two mysterious people in black robes, their bodies concealed entirely in the darkness.
The two figures crept along, cautiously checking their surroundings, unwilling to overlook the slightest movement.
Ling Yun concealed his presence and blended completely into his surroundings. In the end, the two failed to notice any trace of him.
Breathing a sigh of relief, Ling Yun watched the two without looking away, wanting to see what they were after.
Could I be their target?
The possibility occurred to him, but he was not sure.
It had only been a few days. If Madam Wang were in such a hurry to deal with him, it would surely arouse suspicion and alarm in others. After all, some people had already suspected Madam Wang after the attack on Ling Yun.
Madam Wang would have to be sick in the head to do something so stupid before the uproar had died down.
Unable to reach a conclusion, Ling Yun simply stopped thinking about it.
Let's see what these two are up to!
Ling Yun thought to himself.
He had to admit that ever since breaking through to the Core Formation Realm, he had become considerably more confident. In the past, whatever schemes were afoot, he would have fled for his life first.
After observing for a long while, the two mysterious figures finally made their move. Their destination was the summit of the Royal Tomb Mountain Range-the tomb of Primordial Spirit King Duke, where Ling Yun was!
Ling Yun did not dare breathe too loudly, for fear of startling the snake by disturbing the grass and ruining everything at the last step.
"Both of them are in the Core Formation Realm! One is at the late stage, and the other is at the middle stage."
Now Ling Yun could clearly sense the fluctuations coming from the two of them.
In less than an instant, the two Core Formation Realm cultivators arrived outside the first Spirit King's tomb!
Under Ling Yun's intensely expectant gaze, the two finally acted.
A wondrous disc had appeared in one person's hand at some unknown point.
The disc was covered in spiritual patterns, and markings that looked like flowing blood ran across it!
"What are they doing?"
Ling Yun was startled.
They aren't going to dig up the grave, are they?!
That simply would not do. Although he had taken over the original owner's body and was not the original owner himself, he still could not bear to see his ancestor's grave dug up.
As he watched, the person holding the disc began forming seals. A faint, dark-red light slowly seeped from the disc, accompanied by a strong, foul smell of blood.
Ling Yun forced down his nausea and stared at the person without looking away.
"Any results?"
At that moment, the other person spoke. His voice was extraordinarily hoarse, and it was clear that he had deliberately altered it.
"Hmm?"
Even as Ling Yun wondered about it, an idea flashed through his mind.
Are they really so cautious that they even changed their voices? Do these two not know each other, or are they guarding against someone else?
They look like they're on the same side and have the same goal, but everything about them suggests they're wary of each other.
Ling Yun pondered, unable to tell from their voices whether they were people he knew.
"There it is. Just as expected, it points to where the first Spirit King's remains were laid to rest!"
The other person suddenly spoke, his voice just as hoarse. The bloodlike markings on the disc in his hand were now all pointing in one direction!
What are they looking for? They really are plotting against the Spirit King's tomb.
Ling Yun was poised to strike. If the two dared take one step forward, his flying sword would surely cut short their lives!
"All right, let's leave for now. Since we have the answer, we can carry out the next step of our plan."
To Ling Yun's surprise, however, the two did not act, but instead intended to leave.
This made Ling Yun frown deeply. Despite hiding in the shadows, he had learned very little.
The two had barely spoken the entire time and had been cautious to the extreme. All he knew was that their target was indeed the Spirit King's tomb; he knew nothing else.
Should I strike and stop them from leaving?
Ling Yun hesitated for a moment, then immediately abandoned the idea.
If he struck, he would not be able to lure out the real big fish. Although the two were in the Core Formation Realm, judging by how they acted, it was not hard to see that they were merely scouts, acting on someone else's behalf to verify information and the like.
The one truly planning to strike at the Spirit King's tomb was probably someone else, and someone stronger than these two.
"Primordial Spirit Realm?"
The guess made Ling Yun's heart sink in an instant.
If a Primordial Spirit Realm expert had truly set their sights on the Spirit King's Manor, it would mean enormous trouble.
Primordial Spirit Realm cultivators had cultivated a Primordial Spirit and could communicate with the great forces of heaven and earth. Their spells and divine abilities shook heaven and earth, far beyond anything the Core Formation Realm could compare to.
After all, the only Primordial Spirit Realm expert in the entire Spirit King's Manor was the current Spirit King-"Ling Yun's" father-and he had already fallen into slumber.
If the Primordial Spirit Realm expert behind those two made a move against the Spirit King's Manor, Ling Yun did not believe anyone there now could stop them.
Although Ling Yun was confident that he would be hard to match anywhere within the Core Formation Realm, the thought of facing the Primordial Spirit Realm still made him uneasy.
I need to find a way to stabilize the situation.
In the end, Ling Yun did not strike at the two, lest he startle the snake by disturbing the grass and provoke the other side into attacking without regard for anything else.
He now regarded the Royal Mausoleum as his secret base and a place to cultivate in seclusion. He had no wish for anyone to destroy the peace he had obtained with such difficulty.
Watching the two figures leave cautiously, Ling Yun's eyes darkened, their depths unreadable.
