Of All Things to Be, Why Be a Simp? Ptooey
In the year 2616 of the Douluo Calendar, in the mixed zone for Soul Beasts of the Star Dou Great Forest.
This place lay deep within the forest, inhabited mostly by Soul Beasts over ten thousand years old. Few people ever came here, so countless towering trees grew in the area.
One spot, however, was a scene of utter devastation. Almost all the nearby trees had been snapped in half, and fallen branches and leaves covered the ground.
Through gaps in the branches and leaves, scattered traces of blood could be seen on the ground.
Seemingly drawn by the scent of death, several crows flew over from afar, circling overhead and refusing to leave.
Blood Crows were a common kind of Soul Beast in the Star Dou Great Forest. Unlike ordinary crows, which loved carrion, their favorite food was fresh corpses.
Soon, they found something to their liking: the corpse of a young man in white, slumped against an ancient tree so wide it took several people to encircle it...
The Blood Crows landed on the young man and had just opened their beaks to peck at the bloody hole in his chest.
A faint heartbeat suddenly sounded. The young man actually opened his eyes and said weakly, "Wood... Spike..."
A wooden spike immediately emerged from his palm, stabbing fiercely into a Blood Crow and out through its other side.
The Blood Crow struggled violently for a moment before finally falling to the ground, motionless.
That one small Soul Skill exhausted all the young man's strength, and his hand fell limply to his side.
He was in terrible condition. A gaping hole had been torn through his chest, and blood had poured from it, causing his death.
That was right, he had already died once, but another soul had awakened inside this shell.
Perhaps because a new soul had been reborn, the body's instincts awakened once more. It began ceaselessly absorbing the surrounding energy to heal its injuries.
Granulation tissue grew along the edges of the wound at a speed visible to the naked eye, and the ghastly injury slowly began to close.
As the moon set and the sun rose, the first light of dawn once again illuminated the land. The young man slowly opened his eyes, braced both hands against the ground, and shakily rose to his feet.
No sooner had he straightened up than he spat on the ground. "Of all things to be, why be a simp? Ptooey!"
He was cursing none other than himself-or rather, the soul that had originally inhabited this body.
"However you look at it, you were a heaven's chosen of Spirit Hall, so why did you have to simp for Bibi Dong? Look what happened: your soul has vanished. But this is for the best. After more than twenty years as a bystander, I can finally control my own body."
Jun Yan was a transmigrator. Whatever the reason, he had transmigrated and come to the world of the Douluo Continent.
What troubled him, however, was that the body he had transmigrated into had also given rise to another soul.
As a result, he had been unable to control the body and could only be a bystander, watching someone for twenty-six years while feeling everything he did. Only today could he finally control the body.
Because he had been a bystander, Jun Yan now knew all of the original owner's memories.
"First, the Martial Souls. Twin Martial Souls-they should be the Wood Release and Rinnegan I remember. Unfortunately, the original owner didn't know how to use them, or he wouldn't have met this fate."
The original owner had been an orphan with innate Soul Power at level nine and Twin Martial Souls. After his Martial Soul Awakening, he had been adopted by a Platinum Bishop of Spirit Hall and given the name Jun Yan.
Only Jun Yan and his adoptive father knew that he had Twin Martial Souls. At Jun Kuang's request, he had chosen to cultivate Wood Release first.
For Wood Release to be powerful, however, it required a great deal of Chakra, and in the Douluo World, what it needed was Soul Power. So at lower levels of Soul Power, Jun Yan's Martial Soul didn't have much of an advantage.
Even so, his talent in Spirit Hall was second only to that of the holy maiden, Bibi Dong. Now, at no more than twenty-six years old, he had already broken through to become a level-sixty Soul Emperor.
He had come to the Star Dou Great Forest this time to obtain his Sixth Soul Ring alongside Bibi Dong, only for them to suddenly encounter the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger.
Even though they had broken through to level sixty, the two of them still had only five rings each.
To cover Bibi Dong's escape, the simp Jun Yan had his chest pierced by the barb at the tip of the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger's tail. In the end, he breathed his last, his heart filled with unwillingness.
Bibi Dong seemed to hold greater appeal to the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger than Jun Yan did, so after easily inflicting grievous injuries on him, it went after her.
That was what had allowed Jun Yan's broken body to remain intact and the new Jun Yan to come back to life.
In truth, Jun Yan's recovery ability was exceptionally strong. As long as an injury wasn't fatal, it would heal on its own.
Once his wound had mostly healed, Jun Yan sat down cross-legged and began restoring his Soul Power. Three hours later, he had recovered to nearly his peak condition. From grievous injury and the brink of death to a full recovery, he had taken only a day. The terrifying restorative power of his body was plain to see.
Jun Yan took off his damaged clothes and took a clean, tidy set from his Soul Tool to change into.
He looked around, then headed east.
Spirit City lay north of the Star Dou Great Forest, and Bibi Dong had run north when she fled earlier.
Jun Yan was heading east instead of north this time to avoid the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger.
For although the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger was powerful, it might not be able to kill Bibi Dong. She was a holy maiden, after all. Even if her trip to the Star Dou Great Forest to obtain a Soul Ring was nominally a trial, there would certainly be an expert following her, perhaps even a Titled Douluo.
The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger certainly wouldn't have an easy time pursuing her. If Jun Yan also went north and happened to run into that tiger, it would be bad to get killed a second time.
Jun Yan thought, I'll get my Soul Ring first, then leave the Star Dou Great Forest. As for my grudge against the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger, ten years is not too late for a gentleman to take revenge. Just you wait.
"Elder, are you all right?" Bibi Dong caught hold of the old man beside her and asked with concern.
Jun Yan's earlier guess had been correct. A Titled Douluo had indeed been following not far behind them.
Bibi Dong had been saved by this Titled Douluo, but...
The Spirit Hall elder panted heavily, then said, "The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger truly lives up to its reputation. Though its cultivation clearly hasn't reached a hundred thousand years, it was still able to fight this old man to such a degree."
The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger was a top-tier Soul Beast. Even with only fifty or sixty thousand years of cultivation, it was a match for a hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast-the equivalent of a Titled Douluo among humans.
After a great battle with the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger, the elder had driven it off at the cost of his own injuries. Of course, the tiger had also been badly injured.
The elder asked, "I remember you came with the Jun family's boy, didn't you? Where is he?"
Bibi Dong lowered her head and said, "To cover my retreat, Jun Yan had his chest pierced by the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger in a single strike. I'm afraid his chances of survival are slim."
She truly hadn't expected that someone would actually die to save her.
Would Xiao Gang do the same? Bibi Dong couldn't help asking herself.
Then she answered her own question. He probably would!
The elder was startled for a moment, then sighed softly. "He was a genius, after all. What a pity!"
(Note: This book only involves Douluo I, not Douluo II, because I've only read a small part of Douluo II.)
Note:
The protagonist will not follow the path of inheriting a deity's power.
To avoid drawing too much attention from the Divine Realm, he will also operate behind the scenes.
The one placed in front of the protagonist's group is Bibi Dong, that is, the Rakshasa God.
