Background / History

Two Souls in One Body

Jun Yan transmigrated into the Douluo Continent, but another soul developed within the same body. Unable to take control, he spent twenty-six years observing that soul’s life and experiencing everything it did. The original Jun Yan was an orphan adopted after awakening Twin Martial Souls and innate Level 9 Soul Power. At Jun Kuang’s request, he cultivated Wood Release first and kept the Rinnegan secret 1.

The original Jun Yan became deeply infatuated with Bibi Dong, encouraged by Jun Kuang’s insistence that their talents made them a suitable match. During a hunt for their Sixth Soul Rings, he suffered a fatal wound while covering her escape from the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger. His soul disappeared, allowing the transmigrator to assume control and recover with the body’s exceptional regenerative ability 1 5.

Return to Spirit Hall

Jun Yan subsequently killed the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger in its Life and Death Arena and converted its corpse into his Animal Path puppet. He returned to Spirit City while Bibi Dong and the elders believed him dead, then revealed to Jun Kuang that he had already obtained his Sixth Soul Ring 3 5.

Seeking practical combat experience for his son, Jun Kuang arranged his admission to the Enforcement Corps. Jun Yan’s first mission under Gui Mei encountered two Evil Soul Masters rather than the single target reported by intelligence. He helped sustain the critically injured Gui Mei and later supplied life energy to heal the damage caused during treatment 6 8 9 11 13.

Gui Mei and Yue Guan rewarded him with their support. Gui Mei allowed him to cultivate at home while continuing to receive mission credit, giving Jun Yan a year of largely uninterrupted training 13.

Sunset Forest and the Immortal Herbs

After reaching Level 70, Jun Yan traveled alone to Sunset Forest, where his tiger puppet had secured the medicinal valley containing the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He absorbed complementary ice and fire herbs, obtained his Seventh Soul Ring, and established summoning contracts with three powerful Soul Beasts 11 13 14 15 17.

He also selected a Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower for Jun Kuang. The herb broke his father’s longstanding Level 89 bottleneck, raising him to Level 90 and leaving him one ring short of becoming a Titled Douluo 17 18.

Sea God Island Expedition

Jun Yan joined Spirit Hall’s expedition despite knowing from his knowledge of the original story that the campaign would fail. He accepted the risk because Yue Guan and Gui Mei were accompanying it and because he expected to deal with Sea God Island eventually 19 20.

During the voyage, he helped Bibi Dong board a pirate vessel by growing a tree bridge. Near Sea God Island, he pursued the wounded Demon Soul Great White Shark, blocked its escape, and fought it for its Soul Ring and Soul Bone. His Soul Power reached Level 77 afterward 25 27 29.

In the island campaign, Jun Yan defeated three Soul Saints and fought the Soul Douluo Sea Witch. His performance drew attention beyond his nominal rank. Afterward, Qian Daoliu tested his cultivation foundation and found his Soul Power abundant, pure, and free of the instability associated with evil cultivation methods 34 37.

Heaven Dou City and the Tree of Life

After giving suitable Immortal Herbs to Yue Guan and Gui Mei, Jun Yan traveled to Heaven Dou City. At its grand auction, he sold a Ten Thousand Year Ginseng King for 1.2 million Gold Soul Coins and acquired the Jade of Life with financial assistance from Fan Haige 37 39 44 45.

Outside the city, he attacked Tang Xiao, Tang Hao, and Ah Yin under a concealed identity. He defeated the brothers, captured Ah Yin, and demanded the fire-attribute Soul Bone Tang Xiao had bought at auction as the price of their release. A separately deployed Wood Clone then appeared as Jun Yan to disguise the attacker’s identity 46 47.

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, he fed the Jade of Life enough vitality to release the seed inside it. He planted and nourished the seed with his blood, named the resulting sapling the Tree of Life, and used its breathing pattern to develop Sage Mode 48 49.

Personality

Jun Yan prioritizes cultivation and self-preservation over his predecessor’s unquestioning pursuit of Bibi Dong. Soon after taking control, he tells Jun Yi to stop reporting her meetings with Yu Xiaogang and devotes himself to training. Nevertheless, he still experiences emotional responses associated with his predecessor and later alternates between concern, teasing, and criticism in his dealings with her 5 6 21 23.

He is calculating about secrecy and patronage. He gives different explanations for his rapid growth to different audiences: Immortal Herbs for Yue Guan and Gui Mei, and a claimed Martial Soul Second Awakening for Qian Daoliu. He deliberately uses rare herbs to strengthen relationships with influential allies 31 37.

His gratitude toward the Jun family is genuine. Although he recognizes Jun Kuang’s self-interested reasons for concealing his talent, he considers twenty years of care—and their father-son bond—real. Providing the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower is his first substantial repayment of that support 5 18.

In conflict, he is provocative and willing to use deception or severe violence. He openly attacks Yu Xiaogang’s theories, exploits his opponents’ assumptions about clones, and brutally overwhelms enemy Soul Saints. He nevertheless spares Tang Xiao, Tang Hao, and Ah Yin after securing the compensation he wants 23 34 47.

Abilities & Skills

Wood Release

His first Martial Soul controls and produces wood, branches, vines, and trees. Its effectiveness depends heavily on available Soul Power, making it comparatively less advantageous at low cultivation levels 1.

Soul Skill Ring Function
Wood Spear First Produces wooden spears for ranged attacks; he also forms a spear for close combat 33 34.
Wood Barrier Second Creates regenerating wooden defenses. A sufficiently thick barrier withstands a higher-ranked Evil Soul Master’s attack 9.
Wild Dance of Wooden Thorns Third Raises thorn-covered vines to lash and restrain opponents 9 33.
Tree Realm Fourth Rapidly grows a forest within fifty meters of him 33.
Wood Clone Fifth Creates a conscious, controllable duplicate with most of his abilities; permits short-range position exchanges with the original 9 34.
Life Drain Sixth Absorbs plants’ vitality and Soul Power, and drains an opponent’s Soul Power through contact with his Wood Release 6.
  • Wood Dragon Technique: Forms a mobile wooden dragon for combat and transport. After becoming a Soul Saint, he can summon it freely rather than with great difficulty 19 27.
  • Wood Human Technique: Creates a wooden giant approximately twenty meters tall. It can overpower Soul Saints through crushing blows and stomps 27 34.
  • Seventh-ring concealment: He deliberately activates his Seventh Soul Skill while using Wood Human Technique so observers mistake the giant for his Martial Soul Avatar 34.
  • Cutting Technique: A self-created technique used alongside his wooden spear attacks 33.
  • Utility shaping: Grows bridges, catches himself with vines, and experiments with constructing houses 17 19 25.
  • Elemental protection: Following the ice and fire herbs, his Soul Skill-created wood has exceptional resistance to fire, water, and ice. Ordinary plants he accelerates into growth are distinguished from these protected constructs 14 33 34.
  • Limits: Strong sonic attacks can break his barriers, and the shark’s Demon Shark’s Fang severely damages his Wood Dragon 27 34.

Rinnegan

His second Martial Soul provides invisible attackers, force manipulation, energy absorption, and puppet-related techniques 3 47.

  • Limbo: Border Jail: Commands four invisible shadows. They kill the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger in the Life and Death Arena; a Limbo Clone later knocks Ah Yin unconscious 3 47.
  • Shinra Tensei: Releases repulsive force. Concentrating it in his palm produces a stronger, focused strike that severely injures Tang Xiao 47.
  • Attractive force: Pulls Tang Xiao toward him during their battle 47.
  • Energy absorption: Absorbs Tang Hao’s energy-based hammer attack 47.
  • Black rods: Creates rods used in combat, restraint, and the conversion of the tiger’s corpse into a Six Paths Puppet 3 47.
  • Ocular enhancement: Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew improves his vision and the Rinnegan 18.

Animal Path and Summoning

Jun Yan turns the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger into Animal Path: Dark Demon Evil God Tiger, placing its life-bound bead back inside its skull after converting the corpse 3.

Beast Connection and Uses
Dark Demon Evil God Tiger Animal Path puppet, mount, guardian, and Soul Beast hunter; also secures the medicinal valley for him 3 11 14 15.
Azure Baleful Eagle Contracted summon used for flight and scouting 17 18 27.
Three-Headed Hellhound Contracted summon identified as the tiger’s younger brother 17.
Titan Giant Ape Contracted summon that initially refuses to cooperate until intimidated by the tiger 17.
  • His blood-based Summoning Contracts establish a connection that allows him to call contracted beasts from a thousand miles away 17.

Regeneration and Life-Energy Healing

His body recovers from near-fatal injury within approximately one day, provided the injury is not immediately fatal 1.

  • Channels life energy into others, sustaining and helping heal Gui Mei 11 13.
  • Uses absorbed plant vitality to repair damage while digesting the violent energies of the ice and fire herbs 15.
  • Can exhaust his Soul Power through extensive healing, though access to plants allows him to replenish it 13.
  • His vitality-rich blood nourishes the seed that becomes the Tree of Life 49.

Sage Mode

Jun Yan develops Sage Mode by imitating the Tree of Life’s absorption of Natural Energy and combining that energy with his Soul Power 49.

  • His first attempt requires the tree to remove excess Natural Energy that overwhelms him 49.
  • The completed transformation produces black markings around his eyes and a hollow circle with a central black dot between his brows 49.
  • The Tree of Life contains his released pressure, protecting nearby plants 49.

Herbal Knowledge and Life Sensing
