Uses for Immortal Herbs
Jun Yan picked the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower and placed it in a jade box.
Earlier, Jun Yan had used his sixth Soul Skill to absorb the vitality of the nearby medicinal plants. Only half a day had passed, and apart from the immortal-grade plants, all the others looked wilted and listless.
Thus, Jun Yan easily found the Immortal Herb hidden among the ordinary medicinal plants. It was an utterly unremarkable-looking herb.
The herb was a vivid green from stem to tip. Strangely, three snow-white leaves grew at its center, with a few drops of water resting on them like dew left behind in the early morning.
"Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew. Eating it can give one fiery eyes and golden pupils, able to see through all manner of wondrous things. That's an exaggeration, but it should really improve ocular power. It's perfect for my Rinnegan Martial Soul."
Jun Yan held the Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew before him and tilted it slightly, letting the few drops of clear liquid drip into his mouth.
The moment the last drop left the leaves, the entire Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew withered. In the blink of an eye, it turned to dust and scattered from his hand.
Jun Yan then closed his eyes and began circulating his Soul Power to digest the Immortal Herb's medicinal power.
In less than a moment, a faint reddish-gold light appeared above Jun Yan's head. Like strands of silk, the golden light steadily gathered toward his eyes.
But a stream of pale purple energy also suddenly surged from Jun Yan's eyes. When the golden light met the purple, it too slowly took on a purple hue.
The process was slow. A full two hours passed before the golden light turned completely pale purple, then poured into Jun Yan's eyes all at once.
Jun Yan abruptly opened his eyes. His Rinnegan had appeared of its own accord. As soon as he opened them, he felt that his eyes were clear and bright, and even the things he saw were much sharper.
"Summoning Technique."
Purple light flickered in Jun Yan's Rinnegan, and smoke from the Summoning Technique spread out. The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger appeared before him, followed by the Azure Baleful Eagle.
"I'm leaving. Look after this medicine garden for me," Jun Yan said to the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger.
"Roar." The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger nodded.
Jun Yan leaped onto the Azure Baleful Eagle's broad back. "Let's go!"
"Screech!" The Azure Baleful Eagle raised its head and cried out, then kicked off with both feet and spread its wings, flying away from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well.
The Azure Baleful Eagle flew at tremendous speed. Traveling at full speed, it took only a single day to reach a spot ten li outside Spirit City from the Sunset Forest.
"Go back on your own!"
With that, Jun Yan jumped straight off its back.
The Azure Baleful Eagle circled once in the sky before flying away.
As Jun Yan walked toward Spirit City, he recalled what Jun Kuang had told him before he left: "The Spirit Hall's elite selection tournament is in a little over a month. You must hurry back in time to take part."
"I came back fast enough this time, didn't I?" Jun Yan said to himself with a smile.
"How did you get back so quickly?"
Sure enough, those were Jun Kuang's first words when he saw Jun Yan.
Jun Yan replied, "I got my Soul Ring, so of course I hurried back. Wasn't that what you told me to do, Father?"
Jun Kuang shook his head. "But that wasn't even enough time to make a round trip to the Sunset Forest!"
Jun Yan laughed it off. "I'm back anyway, so why worry about that?"
Then he changed the subject. "Oh, right, I brought you a gift this time."
"What gift?" Sure enough, Jun Yan's words drew Jun Kuang's attention elsewhere.
Jun Yan took a jade box out of his Soul Tool as he made up a story. "I passed an auction house on my way back and saw this. It looked interesting, so I bought it."
With that, he opened the jade box. A scorching heat immediately spread out, and the temperature in the room rose slightly.
Jun Kuang's heart beat faster as he looked at the medicinal plant before him. Though he didn't know its name, the longing that seemed to well up from the depths of his soul told him it was no ordinary thing.
"This... this is... wonderful! What's it called?"
Jun Kuang was so excited that he stammered.
Jun Yan shrugged. "I don't know what it's called either, but it looks like it should be a good match for you!"
Jun Kuang's eyes were practically glued to the jade box, but he managed, with great difficulty, to look away. "It is a good match, but something this precious should be yours to do with as you please. It would be wasted on me."
Though Jun Yan was his adopted son, the bond between father and son was genuine. Jun Kuang was naturally delighted that Jun Yan was willing to offer him an Immortal Herb, but he still put Jun Yan first.
Hearing this, Jun Yan gave him a teasing smile. "Father, you're confused. This is a fire-attribute treasure. It would be wasted on me. Haven't you been stuck at level eighty-nine for years? Maybe this can help you break through?"
With that, he handed the jade box to Jun Kuang.
Jun Kuang reached for the jade box, but still torn between hope and fear, he said, "What if I eat it and still can't break through? Wouldn't that waste such a good thing? Why not give it to Yi'er and the others?"
"There's only one of these. How would you divide it among so many youngsters? You should take it yourself."
Jun Yan pressed the jade box into Jun Kuang's hands. "Absorb it now! You don't need to eat it. Just gather your Soul Power and channel it to absorb the herb. Do it here; I'll stand guard for you."
"All right," Jun Kuang answered, his beard trembling. Then he led Jun Yan into a cultivation room.
He took the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower out of the jade box and began absorbing the Immortal Herb's energy as Jun Yan had instructed.
Suddenly, Jun Kuang released his Martial Soul without realizing it. The figure of a giant wreathed in flames appeared behind him. Almost instantly, the flames burned his clothes to ash.
The Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower's medicinal effects were extremely fierce. By now, Jun Kuang's entire body had turned fiery red, his hair no exception, and fine droplets of fluid kept seeping from beneath his skin.
As the fluid seeped out, however, his skin grew firmer, no longer dry and shriveled like an old man's. It was plain to see that his body was steadily improving under the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower's effects.
There were quite a few members of the Jun Family's main branch. Their inherited Martial Soul was the Flame Giant, a fairly good Martial Soul. Of everyone in the family over the past century, Jun Kuang had possessed the greatest talent, with innate level eight Soul Power. It was under his leadership that the family had been able to establish a permanent home in Spirit City.
But because of the limits of his talent, Jun Kuang's strength had ceased to advance, and the Jun Family's development had likewise stagnated.
For either Jun Kuang or the Jun Family to take another step forward, they needed the support of a genius. It was just then that Jun Yan was discovered. From that point on, the Jun Family had supported him with everything they had, and none of them had ever treated him as an outsider.
More than twenty years had passed in the blink of an eye. Jun Yan, who had grown up under Jun Kuang's wing, had begun to repay them. The Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower was his first gift in return, but it would not be his last.
Whoosh-
Crimson flames burst from Jun Kuang and expanded in an instant until they filled the entire room. Jun Kuang slowly opened his eyes.
After taking the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower, Jun Kuang had, as expected, broken through his bottleneck and reached Level 90 Soul Power. He was only one Soul Ring away from becoming a Titled Douluo.
