The young man beside him had no time to dodge. The bolt of lightning struck his arm, sending him flying and tearing half his body apart.
"How dare you! You dared hurt one of the Divine Medicine Sect's people!" Lin Feng shouted.
His face turned cold in an instant as he stared icily at Lei Chong on the boulder.
"The Divine Medicine Sect is truly overbearing. You knew I was cultivating, yet you still attacked. Did you really take me for a soft persimmon?" Lei Chong's expression was utterly chilling.
As he spoke, he extended a hand, conjuring a great runic hand that reached for the young man on the ground.
"Are you courting death?" Lin Feng shouted coldly, thrusting out his palm.
Pfft!
But Lei Chong was far too fast. Before Lin Feng's palm could reach him, he easily crushed the young man on the ground.
The Demon Spider stared at Lei Chong, its pitch-black pupils turning. Someone so young at the Array Formation Realm was definitely a genius from a great sect.
"How bold. You'll stay here today," Lin Feng said in an icy voice.
Boom!
Lei Chong's gaze was utterly cold as he raised a hand and struck at Lin Feng. These people had not only disturbed his cultivation, but had also shown killing intent toward him. He absolutely would not tolerate it.
"Hmph, you dared hurt my man," the Demon Spider said coldly.
At the same time, the Demon Spider raised a palm to meet Lei Chong's.
Boom!
An explosive report rang out, and both of them staggered back several steps.
"Friend, we were in the wrong this time. How about we let the matter rest here, as a favor to Demon Spirit Lake?" the Demon Spider said.
The Demon Spider was truly shocked. A mere spirit body had blocked its attack. Just how strong would the true body be?
"Why haven't you apologized yet?" the Demon Spider shouted at Lin Feng.
Thump!
Lin Feng's legs gave out, and he fell to his knees, repeatedly kowtowing to Lei Chong. At the same time, he took out some spiritual medicines and earnestly apologized to him.
Lei Chong's gaze swept over the Demon Spider, then fell on Lin Feng. He snatched up the spiritual medicines, deciding not to attack for the time being.
Just then, Lei Chong's true body awoke. His spirit body turned into a shower of light and vanished completely into him.
He then leaped down from the boulder and flew toward the Medicine Capital, only to find a large crowd of commoners gathered at its entrance.
Lei Chong did not approach, merely casting a cursory glance at them.
A wanted notice hung on a nearby wall, bearing a portrait of an old man.
After a moment's thought, Lei Chong understood the reason. The man was probably the Great Demon God, wanted by Demon Spirit Lake.
Many cultivators came and went through the Medicine Capital, making it easier to search there than elsewhere.
The wanted notice gave Lei Chong an idea. Perhaps he could use it to find the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow as soon as possible.
The Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow was a venerable who always acted in a highly conspicuous manner.
He was also immensely famous in the Desolate Region, and many cultivators knew of him.
Perhaps some cultivator in the Medicine Capital had seen him.
Lei Chong wanted to investigate the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow in the Medicine Capital, but he did not want word flying everywhere.
Otherwise, if the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow caught wind of it, he might move elsewhere in advance.
After carefully thinking back over the original story, he finally came up with a plan.
After wandering around the city for a long time, he arrived beneath a gambling house.
It was a mysterious place, filled with a faint red glow. It was like entering hell, wisps of chill seeping into his bones.
Lei Chong followed a passage into a hall at its end.
There was only a counter in the hall, with an old man seated in front of it.
In the red light, the old man's skin was crimson, while his eyes were dark and sinister, making him look terrifying.
"Customer, who do you want killed?" the old man asked in a chilling voice.
"Will you kill the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow?" Lei Chong asked expressionlessly.
The old man's expression froze. Then his eyes slowly narrowed as he studied Lei Chong with a peculiar look.
"Ahem, little brother, I suppose you don't yet know the rules of our Ten Thousand Blood Tower?" the old man said in a chilling voice.
"Please enlighten me, elder." Lei Chong was not offended.
"If you want the Ten Thousand Blood Tower to kill someone, you must first pay the assassin's fee. If we fail to kill the target within the appointed time, we return twice the fee." The old man fixed Lei Chong with a chilling stare.
Lei Chong looked young to him and probably could not afford the fee for killing a venerable.
Lei Chong did not argue. He simply took out a storage bag, drew out a Blood Spirit Pearl the size of a human head, and tossed it onto the counter.
The old man's eyes flew wide, and he swallowed involuntarily.
"Elder, is this Blood Spirit Pearl enough?" Lei Chong asked.
"Enough, of course it's enough." The old man nodded involuntarily.
"Then can you take the job?" Lei Chong looked at the old man.
"To be honest with you, young friend, the Ten Thousand Blood Tower has other rules. We do not make enemies of the great sects and ancient kingdoms, nor do we act against top venerables," the old man explained, looking somewhat embarrassed.
Lei Chong had long since guessed at these rules of the Ten Thousand Blood Tower.
If the Ten Thousand Blood Tower had truly dared to act, its name would already have spread throughout the Desolate Region, and it would have become a power on par with those ancient kingdoms or great sects.
"If I only ask you to gather information, you should be able to manage that, shouldn't you?" Lei Chong picked up the Blood Spirit Pearl from the counter.
"Of course we can." The old man immediately thumped his chest in assurance.
Without hesitation, Lei Chong took a piece of Sea Blue Essence from his storage bag. It was only about the size of a fist, and he placed it on the counter.
"Since you don't dare act, I'll use this piece of Sea Blue Essence to buy information about him from you," Lei Chong said.
"Rest assured, customer. When it comes to gathering information, no one in the Desolate Region surpasses the Ten Thousand Blood Tower." The old man reached out and accepted the Sea Blue Essence.
"Good. I'll give you a month. I'll return in a month." Lei Chong smiled and nodded, then turned and left the Ten Thousand Blood Tower.
"Rest assured, customer," the old man said, nodding repeatedly.
After leaving the Ten Thousand Blood Tower, Lei Chong still had little confidence. In the original story, the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow had been cunning enough to evade the searches of giants from the Upper Realm.
Would such a cunning vicious bird really be so easy to find?
But Lei Chong had no other choice. He could only take things one step at a time.
After wandering around the city for a long while, Lei Chong traded for over a hundred spiritual medicines. The number seemed staggering, but they would not last long either.
When he had just returned from overseas, he had nearly a hundred spiritual medicines on him. Unexpectedly, after just seven days of cultivation, he had used them all up.
Lei Chong wandered around the city for half a day before returning to Divine Medicine Valley.
On the boulder in Divine Medicine Valley, Lin Feng got up from the ground in humiliation.
"Senior, are you just going to let him go? He has no regard for you at all." Lin Feng looked toward the Medicine Capital with venom in his eyes.
"Hmph, he insulted our Demon Spirit Lake lineage. Whoever he is, he must die today. But I came in a hurry, and that person is not to be trifled with. I need to make some preparations," the Demon Spider said with a cold snort.
Hearing the Demon Spider's words, Lin Feng's eyes lit up.
As the two were talking, the sound of scripture chanting came from the great array.
The sound of the Dao was profoundly mysterious, drawing him toward a state of Dao comprehension.
The Demon Spider did not fall into a state of Dao comprehension. Instead, it took out a purple eyeball and began examining the little tree in the great array.
But the longer it looked, the more alarmed it became, realizing that the little tree held a great terror.
The Demon Spider withdrew its gaze, preparing to leave the place quickly.
Suddenly, a ball of light began to flicker in front of the boulder.
The Demon Spider's expression changed, and it turned its gaze toward the ball of light.
