History
Confrontation with Lei Chong
Demon Spider intervened when Lei Chong attacked Lin Feng following a conflict with the Divine Medicine Sect. After exchanging a palm strike with Lei Chong’s spirit body, he realized that the youth was unusually powerful. He invoked Demon Spirit Lake’s name to negotiate a truce and ordered Lin Feng to kneel, apologize, and offer spiritual medicines 13.
The reconciliation was temporary. Once Lei Chong left, Demon Spider declared that insulting Demon Spirit Lake warranted death, but admitted that he needed preparations before attacking. While examining the valley’s formation with a purple eye, he sensed a terrifying danger within the little tree and then noticed a mysterious flickering ball of light 13.
Attempts to Retrieve the Ball of Light
Unable to see through the light even with the Double Pupils, Demon Spider ordered a Divine Medicine Sect disciple to retrieve it. He promised to intervene if danger arose, but the formation’s sword light killed the disciple too quickly for him to react 14.
Demon Spider fetched the Heaven Ascending Ladder from Medicine Capital and placed it over the formation. A second disciple crossed safely at first, but his attempts to disturb the soil provoked stronger Sword Qi. The ladder’s resulting fluctuations killed him. Demon Spider disregarded the death and demanded that more disciples continue, despite Lin Feng’s objections 14.
Defeat and Death
When Lin Feng again clashed with Lei Chong, Demon Spider protected him with a runic sword beam. He questioned Lei Chong about his sect before attacking, wary of provoking a power that even Demon Spirit Lake would hesitate to offend 15.
Demon Spider assumed his enormous jade-green spider form and fought at full strength. Although their exchanges initially appeared evenly matched, Lei Chong was still holding back. Demon Spider suffered extensive lightning burns and finally released a refined net artifact. Lei Chong’s golden sword beams shredded the net and severed one of his legs at the root 15.
Demon Spider begged for mercy while threatening retaliation from Demon Spirit Lake. Lei Chong ignored him and split his head with sword light, then collected his corpse and seized the Heaven Ascending Ladder. A group of Demon Spiders arrived in Medicine Capital shortly afterward 16.
Use of His Remains
Lei Chong later showed Shi Hao one of Demon Spider’s legs and proposed leaving it outside the city to lure Demon Spirit Lake’s people into investigating. Learning that the issuer of his grandfather’s wanted notice was dead reassured Shi Hao that his grandfather might still be alive 23.
After defeating the Rain God statue’s projection, Lei Chong placed part of Demon Spider’s corpse beside the statue to frame the Rain Clan. He instructed Shi Hao to spread a fabricated account that a giant spider and the statue had fought outside Medicine Capital a month earlier and vanished together. The intended result was to draw Demon Spirit Lake into questioning the Rain Clan 28 29.
Appearance
- Eyes: Pitch-black pupils that rotate like dark abysses, giving his stare an intimidating quality 13 14.
- True form: A jade-green spider as large as a small mountain, covered in green spider hairs 15.
- Battle injuries: Lei Chong’s lightning charred large areas of his body and caused his hairs to fall out in clumps; a subsequent sword attack severed a leg 15.
Personality
Demon Spider was fiercely protective of Demon Spirit Lake’s prestige. He treated an insult to the lineage as grounds for killing, yet moderated his behavior when uncertain of an opponent’s strength or backing. His initial apology to Lei Chong concealed an immediate intention to retaliate after making preparations 13 15.
His pursuit of the ball of light exposed his disregard for weaker cultivators. He repeatedly forced Divine Medicine Sect disciples to test a lethal formation and demanded further attempts after two deaths. Facing his own death, he pleaded for mercy but continued threatening Lei Chong with his faction’s vengeance 14 16.
