Background / History

In his previous life, Lei Chong was an office worker on Earth. After discovering Perfect World, he read for three days and nights without sleeping and died suddenly. He awakened in the body of the Thunder Emperor’s son, inheriting the talent of a figure whose unrealized potential he had regretted while reading the novel 1.

The original Lei Chong had been sealed inside the Kunpeng Nest when the Foreign Realm attacked the Nine Heavens. The Thunder Emperor was visiting the nest and could not return home in time. Following the defeat of the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths, a Foreign Realm Immortal King used karmic power to destroy the child’s soul 1.

Sixteen years before Lei Chong’s departure from the nest, fluctuations from a black paper boat disturbed the chaos surrounding the sealed body. His transmigration occurred at that moment. He spent the following years exploring the nest and cultivating with its resources 1.

He initially considered the Immortal Ancient Dao Seed Method, but the changed world made it unsuitable. Ten years before his departure, he obtained the Present World Method and the era’s written language from an intruder’s sea of consciousness 1.

Appearance

  • Usual presentation: A black-clad youth 1.
  • Lightning manifestations: Thunder Emperor runes can emerge across his skin, while lightning coils around his body and wings 9 32.
  • Fire techniques: His body can resemble crimson jade, combining divine fire with lightning; True Phoenix runes later appear as dancing flames across his skin 38 48.

Personality

Lei Chong values independence and refuses to rely on sect membership for protection. He is methodical in cultivation, preferring to understand techniques from their fundamental symbols rather than memorize their outward forms. Even when absorbing a Divine Being’s insights, he selects what benefits his own path instead of simply copying them 15 17 29.

He combines caution with a confrontational response to coercion. He conceals his strength, scouts through expendable spirit bodies, and seeks protection against threats such as the Chaos Disk, but attacks first when Jin Lie threatens to probe his divine sense 1 32 35. His schemes include planting a Demon Spider’s remains to implicate the Rain Clan, while his willingness to repay intervention leads him to bring the Witch to safety after she attempts to protect him 28 42.

His interactions with the Witch are frequently flirtatious and provocative. Shortly after awakening his Heavenly Eye, he uses it to see through her spirit body, angering her; their later encounters retain that teasing friction 6 19 20 21.

Abilities & Skills

Magic Immunity

An innate, continuously active ability that negates part of incoming magical attacks 1.

  • Can completely nullify magical attacks from opponents below his realm.
  • Negates only a portion of stronger attacks; the remainder must be endured through his defenses and physique.
  • Its effectiveness depends on the difference in cultivation realms.
  • Lei Chong suspects it originated from his sealed body absorbing chaos over the ages, but this is his own explanation rather than a confirmed origin 1.
  • Does not prevent severe injury under concentrated attacks from powerful opponents 42 48.

Thunder Emperor Technique

His principal lightning inheritance, used for destructive attacks, suppression, and versatile lightning constructs 1 3 32.

  • Forms Suanni, war spears, blades, nets, vortices, and heavenly swords from lightning 3 15 27 47.
  • Sends lightning into an opponent’s meridians to obstruct their senses and use of precious techniques 32.
  • Exploits conductive water to strike multiple enemies 8 27.
  • Its heavenly-sword attack is more effective against individual targets than large groups 47.
  • Lei Chong does not claim to have fully comprehended the inheritance 30.

Kunpeng Method

Learned inside the Kunpeng Nest, where demonstrations left in the blood pool assisted his comprehension 1 17.

  • Produces Kunpeng wings for high-speed flight and cutting attacks 32.
  • Can combine the wings with lightning and the Earth-Shrinking Talisman for speed beyond the usual limits of his realm 32 40.
  • Allows him to transform his body into a Kunpeng during combat 46.

Spirit Bodies and Heavenly Passages

Lei Chong possesses ten heavenly passages and nurtures spirit bodies through his techniques 1.

  • His long-nurtured Thunder Emperor and Kunpeng spirit bodies have combat strength only slightly below his own 1.
  • Ordinary spirit bodies are comparatively easy to replace and can be sacrificed without greatly affecting him 1.
  • Uses them to guard cultivation sessions, fight independently, carry artifacts, gather materials, and scout unknown spaces 5 8 34 41 43.
  • Receives a scouting spirit body’s memories when it returns 36.
  • Later fields spirit bodies associated with the God-Striking Technique and the five bird techniques 31 41.

Martial Dao Heavenly Eye

A cultivated ocular ability awakened through Blue Crystal Sea Gall and subsequently enhanced with Double Pupils runes 5 6 16 17.

  • Sees through seawater, illusions, disguises, and concealed internal structures 6 23 30.
  • Makes observed movements appear slower and reveals fine details useful for combat and rune study 6.
  • Examines his own body to guide precise rune inscription 6.
  • Gains illusion-inducing effects and stronger penetrating lightning beams after incorporating Double Pupils imprints 17.
  • Reveals the God-Striking Stone’s hidden primordial runes, but cannot initially protect him from their memorization backlash 23.

Internal Arrays

Builds formations inside his body using his own lightning-path runes rather than merely reproducing external diagrams 6 9.

  • Can replace inscribed runes when better arrays become available 6.
  • Manifests lightning swords as a surrounding killing array 9 15.
  • Studies Divine Medicine Valley’s ancient formation to improve his inscriptions, aided by chanting from the tree within it 11 12.
  • Encounters interference between array patterns as his cultivation reaches a bottleneck 18.

God-Striking Technique

A Ten Fiends technique directed at primordial spirits, learned from runes hidden within the God-Striking Stone 23 30.

  • Requires sufficient primordial-spirit strength to withstand its backlash 23 30.
  • Can strike a target’s primordial spirit from hundreds of miles away 30.
  • Manifests as a golden imprint and injures Jin Gang’s primordial spirit during the phoenix-bone battle 47.
  • Can follow a separated portion of a target’s primordial spirit into an artifact, as demonstrated when Jin Gang tries to divert it into his alms bowl 50.

Phoenix and Divine-Bird Techniques

Acquires several fire-based bird inheritances during his exploration of Divine Medicine Valley and the True Phoenix Nest 18 37 40.

  • Phoenix Wing Slash: Produces a crimson wing attack that tears the void 18.
  • Vermilion Bird Art: Grants powerful fire attacks and helps him endure the flames around the bird nests 37 39.
  • Five bird techniques: Include the Vermilion Bird, Bi Fang, Li Fire Crow, and Azure Luan inheritances; their corresponding manifestations help open the mountain formation 37 40 41.
  • True Phoenix Art: Heals serious injuries through its flames, but the incomplete inheritance cannot support full Nirvana 49.

Golden Spin Ripple Technique

Converts surrounding energy through golden vortices 32.

  • Absorbs the Divine Flame Man’s fire prison and transforms its flames into energy that nourishes his body.
  • Allows him to escape the prison after weakening it 32.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Kunpeng Nest and the North Sea

Lei Chong leaves the Demon Transformation Cave after sixteen years, collecting the altar’s medicines before outsiders enter. He prepares spirit bodies to conceal his identity and avoid becoming trapped over the Kunpeng inheritance. During the ensuing struggle, he kills Han Tian and takes the Divine Illumination Lamp 1 3 4.

At sea, he awakens his Heavenly Eye, develops his internal arrays, and defeats Han Ming. His search for the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow then brings him to the Merfolk Tribe, whose teleportation array carries him toward the Fire Kingdom 5 6 8 9 10 11.

Medicine Capital and the Stone Kingdom

At Divine Medicine Valley, he studies ancient arrays and incomplete phoenix-related runes. After conflict with the Divine Medicine Sect and a Demon Spider Venerable, he takes the Heaven Ascending Ladder and improves his Heavenly Eye with Double Pupils runes 11 13 16 17 18.

His pursuit of the Heaven-Swallowing Sparrow is intended to lead him to the Mountain Treasure. Information from the Ten Thousand Blood Tower takes him to the Stone Kingdom’s capital, where he acquires the Void Beast Hide and forms an alliance with Shi Hao 6 18 19 21 22.

Together, they attack the Rain Clan and seize divine decrees. Lei Chong defeats the pursuing Rain God statue’s projection and plants Demon Spider remains beside it to implicate the clan. Refining the decrees afterward breaks his soul shackles and enables him to begin cultivating the God-Striking Technique 25 28 29 30.

True Phoenix Nest Expedition

Lei Chong defeats the Divine Flame Man after securing Heavenly Desolation’s assistance against the Chaos Disk. When their conflict exposes a hidden gate, he scouts through it with a spirit body and enters the newly revealed space ahead of the gathered factions 33 34 36.

He collects five bird rune bones, uses their techniques to open the mountain formation, and reaches its interior with the Witch despite suffering repeated attacks. The Heaven Ascending Ladder then allows him to harvest the protected medicine field 37 40 41 42 43.

Inside the upper palace, he kills the Demon Spider patriarch and seizes the incomplete True Phoenix bone. The resulting pursuit becomes his hardest battle since leaving the sea: he kills five Venerables, wounds more than ten, and suffers severe internal injuries before using the True Phoenix Art to recover 47 48 49.

Jin Gang subsequently blocks his retreat as flames spread through the altar chamber. Lei Chong counters with the God-Striking Technique, damaging the portion of Jin Gang’s primordial spirit hidden in his alms bowl. Other factions later speak of Lei Chong as dead, though his death is not directly established 49 50.
