Mortal Origins and Sect Standing

Chu Yunfei grew up in the mortal world, following an old beggar through the streets to beg for food. Lingxiaozi discovered him in a beggars’ den while visiting the mortal world to slay an evil demon and brought him into the Supreme One Divine Sect 15 42.

As Lingxiaozi’s personal disciple, Chu Yunfei became the most accomplished cultivator of his generation in the sect. He was expected to inherit both Heaven-Soaring Peak and the position of sect master. His reputation as a considerate, gentlemanly senior brother earned him widespread admiration among male and female disciples alike 14 15 20.

Dark Nether Sword Token Dispute

Chu Yunfei competed for the Dark Nether Sword Token at the Azure Cloud Pavilion auction but lost to Cang Wuya’s winning bid of 180 million high-grade Spirit Stones. He had assembled only about 150 million for the purchase. After recognizing his voice, Su Ruanruan sought him out and identified the token’s buyers 12 14.

The pair intercepted Feng Zhuo and Cang Wuya on their return to the sect. Chu Yunfei argued that the two Qi Refining disciples would struggle to form Golden Cores before the Dark Nether Secret Realm opened in ten years and should therefore surrender the token to him. Xuanweizi’s protection prevented him from immediately using force 14.

Chu Yunfei then offered protection in exchange for the token, mixing promises with threats. When Yunxiaozi arrived and identified the pair as his personal disciples, Chu Yunfei apologized and recast his demand as a willingness to “let” them keep it. He hurried back to explain himself to Lingxiaozi before Yunxiaozi could report the incident 15.

Yunxiaozi subsequently confronted Lingxiaozi and split Heaven-Soaring Peak with a sword strike. Over the following months, Heaven-Soaring Peak disciples repeatedly harassed Carefree Peak. A false account circulated claiming that Chu Yunfei had won the token and been forced to surrender it; Feng Zhuo countered it with an auction recording 18 20.

Green Wood Illusion Forest Expedition

Chu Yunfei and Yushang jointly led the Supreme One Divine Sect’s expedition to the Green Wood Illusion Forest. Yushang kept him occupied and stayed close to Feng Zhuo, preventing him from finding an opportunity to confront the younger disciple before departure. Chu Yunfei nevertheless performed his public duties, briefing the disciples on the realm’s dangers and warning them against reckless behavior 20 21 22.

Outside the realm, he accepted a messenger’s report that Feng Zhuo had poisoned Su Ruanruan and stolen her ten-thousand-year-old Spirit-Cleansing Grass. When Yushang questioned the accusation, Chu Yunfei invoked Lingxiaozi’s judgment, pointing out that his master had taught Su Ruanruan swordsmanship 39.

Defeat by Feng Zhuo

Feng Zhuo emerged at Foundation Establishment Middle Stage, shocking Chu Yunfei and undermining his earlier dismissal of the younger disciple’s potential. Chu Yunfei demanded his storage ring and an antidote, then attacked as Feng Zhuo produced the auction receipt proving who had purchased the Dark Nether Sword Token 39 40.

His lightning attacks failed to penetrate Feng Zhuo’s divergent-flame defenses. After repeated strikes depleted his spiritual power, he used Hidden Dormant Thunder and its Annihilation Sword Intent. Feng Zhuo weakened the attack with a fused flame phoenix, while Yanba stopped the remainder 40 41.

Feng Zhuo restored his spiritual power with twelve Spirit-Restoring Pills while Yanba prevented Chu Yunfei from recovering effectively. The pair then counterattacked and defeated him. During the aftermath, Yanba also broke his sword 41 42.

Zhong Mingxuan intervened on Chu Yunfei’s behalf and attacked Feng Zhuo, only to be killed by Yunxiaozi. Chu Yunfei was terrified by Yunxiaozi’s revealed strength and feared he would be killed next. Once spared, he renewed his resolve to take revenge on Feng Zhuo and Carefree Peak 42 43.

Sentencing

The subsequent Law Enforcement Hall proceedings exposed Su Ruanruan’s guilt. Lingxiaozi sentenced Chu Yunfei to twenty years in the Nine Nether Blood Domain—longer than Su Ruanruan’s ten-year sentence and the two-year terms given to Bai Wuxia, Xuanfeng, and Xuan Mo 46.

Personality

Chu Yunfei carefully maintains an image of gentleness, generosity, and propriety. He frames demands as concern for junior disciples and uses sect fellowship to pressure them into compliance. When challenged by someone stronger, he quickly adopts an apologetic manner and tries to preserve his reputation 15 43.

His private thoughts reveal arrogance, jealousy, and a strong sensitivity to humiliation. Having long regarded other sect disciples as beneath him, he resents Feng Zhuo’s lack of deference and rapid advancement. He particularly dislikes references to his impoverished origins; his defeat recalls the helplessness of his childhood and prompts a violent desire for revenge 14 15 39 42.

His support for Su Ruanruan is also calculated. Although he privately considers her foolish, Elder Yu’s assessment that she possesses immense fortune makes him reluctant to offend her until he can verify her fate 14 15.
