Background / History

Lu Feng awakens in a ruined temple outside Lin'an County, in Cang Province of the Great Qian Dynasty on the Heavenly Spirit Continent. He has transmigrated into the body of a head constable who died after contracting plague from corpses he intended to give to demonic beasts 1.

The original owner maintained his position and survival by supplying humans to nearby demons. Lu Feng inherits both his memories and his hated reputation, but rejects those arrangements. His first confrontation ends with him killing a pig demon that attempts to eat him 1 3.

Personality

Lu Feng is decisive in combat but does not treat recklessness as courage. He exploits openings, attacks vulnerable points, and uses deception against enemies; when warned about an unfamiliar third-tier beast, he accepts that fighting it would be an unnecessary gamble 12 22 24 31.

His pursuit of strength serves both practical and protective goals. Joining the Demon-Slaying Bureau offers legal access to demon hunting, techniques, and resources, while the discovery of drained human corpses drives him to vow to eliminate Lin'an County’s demonic beasts 4 9.

He is generous toward people who earn his trust. He offers Zhou Si a demon’s remains as compensation for her injury, helps injured companions recover, and spends valuable resources preparing Chen Hu for a potentially fatal duel 31 46 50. Chen Lan’s death leaves him feeling helpless despite his superior strength, making his inability to protect someone close to him a personal failure 16.

He also conceals his advantages. After defeating Zhu Ren, he tells his companions that he waited for the Demon Transformation to expire; later, he delays cultivation upgrades because his extraordinary growth could invite dangerous scrutiny from the Bureau’s senior experts 46 48.

Abilities & Skills

System

  • Demon Points: Earns points by killing demonic beasts. Documented rewards include 100 for an unranked demon, 1,000 for a first-tier demon, and 10,000 for a second-tier demon 1 10 23.
  • Accelerated mastery: Spends points to receive cultivation experience directly, mastering techniques as though he had practiced them for years or decades 2 3 26.
  • Technique rewards: Receives techniques after certain kills, including Treading on Snow Without a Trace from Lin Yuan, Gale Slash from Zhao An, and Nine Layered Wave Slashes from an Early Hua Jin attacker 16 22 49.
  • Completion and evolution: The system offers to complete the incomplete Innate Primordial Qi for one million points. He declines that expense, but later pays 100,000 points to evolve the fully progressed available art into Five Elements Primordial Chaos Art 19 48.
  • Resource limits: Points alone do not remove every obstacle. He initially lacks higher-level manuals, and Hundred Beasts Body-Tempering Art requires essence blood he does not possess 12 47.

Internal Cultivation

  • Innate Primordial Qi: His primary cultivation art through the Nei Jin stage; its progress upgrades carry him from Ming Jin Perfection to Hua Jin 19 34 45.
  • Concealed internal damage: Demonstrates Nei Jin by damaging a stone stool internally while leaving its surface apparently unchanged until touched 19.
  • Five Elements Primordial Chaos Art: A Hua Jin art evolved from Innate Primordial Qi. Its described benefits include replenishing internal energy during combat, though he leaves its progress at 0% after obtaining it 48.
  • Recovery assistance: Channels internal energy into injured allies, helping Zhu Lin, Luo Fang, and Chen Hu recover 46 50.

Saber Arts

  • Gale Saber Art: A perfected technique emphasizing fast, precise cuts. He routinely uses it to behead demons in a single exchange 3 8 43.
  • Gale Slash: A perfected Nei Jin saber technique combining explosive speed with concentrated internal force. At Mid Nei Jin, its power is assessed as sufficient to threaten a third-tier beast 26.
  • Gate-Severing Saber Art: Obtained from the county yamen and later listed among his perfected arts 4 7 47.
  • Nine Layered Wave Slashes: Obtained by killing an Early Hua Jin martial artist. Its description allows internal energy to be layered into increasingly powerful successive cuts; no subsequent training is documented 20 49.
  • Demonstrated limit: Perfected Gale Slash fails to overcome Zhu Ren’s transformed body while Lu Feng is still at Nei Jin Perfection 45.

Movement Techniques

  • Carefree Steps: Enables rapid evasions and repositioning around opponents. He uses it to avoid claws, escape projectile attacks, and attack from behind 2 11 23.
  • Treading on Snow Without a Trace: A top-tier Ming Jin lightness skill described at perfection as allowing silent movement, travel without leaving tracks in snow, and a daily range of ten thousand li 17.
  • Combined footwork: Alternates both perfected movement techniques against the golden-gray ape demon, evading its attacks while targeting weak points 31.
  • Long-distance speed: Carries an exhausted Chen Hu to Jinguan City in six hours and later outpaces the Fire Saber Sect mission team 17 27.

Defensive Arts

  • Iron Cloth Shirt: Toughens his skin until an ordinary saber leaves only a white mark. Its perfected defense withstands first-tier attacks and a direct strike from the second-tier old ape 7 9 11.
  • Golden Bell Shield: Uses internal energy to strengthen the skin, membranes, tendons, and bones, with a protective force shield available at perfection 20 26.
  • Hua Jin reinforcement: After his breakthrough, combines Golden Bell Shield with Hua Jin power to survive Zhu Ren’s blood-red energy attack 46.
  • Limits: Before that breakthrough, a third-tier-strength blow passes force through Golden Bell Shield and leaves his arm numb. Without activating his defensive arts, his body is only slightly tougher than that of other cultivators at his stage 45 47.

Cold Plum Jin

  • Internal cold damage: At perfection, can frostbite an opponent’s meridians and slow the circulation of Qi and blood 20.
  • Combat use: Wounds the second-tier monkey demon with the technique and later lands a decisive perfected strike before finishing it with his saber 38.

Grasping Hand

  • Close-range interception: Uses the same technique as Lin Shan, meeting his attack from an unexpected angle despite being injured 14.
  • Mastery: Listed among his perfected martial arts 47.

Hundred Beasts Body-Tempering Art

  • Acquisition: Obtains the art by killing Zhu Ren 46.
  • Requirements: Uses demonic beast essence blood to strengthen the body and includes a method for extracting that blood 47.
  • Advanced levels: The fourth level requires blood from one hundred different third-tier beasts and Bone-Tempering Sand; the fifth requires blood from one hundred different fourth-tier beasts and the same supplementary material 47.
  • Training status: Has not begun practicing it when first examined because he has no suitable essence blood 47.

Investigation and Combat Analysis

  • Recognizing traps: Notices that an uncultivated woman’s survival in Black Mountain Forest is implausible, but follows her to locate the demons behind her 22.
  • Finding weaknesses: Identifies the old ape’s unusual tail as a likely vulnerability and observes that Zhu Ren’s combat skill does not match his enhanced body 12 44.
  • Connecting evidence: Links Zhu Qi’s handwriting to the Bureau’s report and recognizes disappearing blood from demon corpses as evidence of a hidden formation 33 42 43.

  • Six Harmonies Saber — His principal named weapon during the Black Mountain Forest and Fire Saber Sect missions. Channels internal energy through it for saber attacks 23 26 46.

  • Xiaolian — Handles his initial reception and equipment, then conveys the warning explaining Qin Shuang’s protective mission assignment 17 19 27.

  • Lin Shan — Rival for Bureau admission who claims credit for Lu Feng’s kills. Also the target of Chen Hu’s revenge for Chen Lan’s death 13 16 50.
  • Zhao An — Biased Bureau official who obstructs his admission and later pursues him. Lu Feng kills him before reaching Black Mountain Forest 13 22.
  • Zhu Ren — Fire Saber Sect leader exposed as a demon-colluding Half-Demon. His confrontation forces Lu Feng’s breakthrough to Hua Jin 43 45 46.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Breaking with the Original Owner’s Past

Lu Feng redeems his first demon kill for Carefree Steps, then learns that the original owner sent Chen Lan to North Mountain as tribute. He races ahead of her brother, rescues her, and kills her two wolf demon captors before they can call for help. His actions immediately conflict with Lin Yuan’s arrangements with the demons 2 3 4.

While hunting the pig demons, he encounters the stronger Xiong Ba. Su Ying kills the demon and rewards Lu Feng for delaying it, giving him a Jin Origin Pill and a token that opens a path into the Bureau 5 6.

Clearing Lin'an County

After the wolf demons kill Qian San and abduct children from prominent families, Lu Feng refuses their demand that he apologize. He attacks their den with Chen Hu’s men, rescues captives, and discovers extensive evidence of human slaughter. He then extends his campaign to the rabbit, rat, and monkey demon lairs 7 8 9 11.

The hidden second-tier old ape proves much harder to kill. Lu Feng’s saber breaks, and although he ultimately wins, he is left badly injured. The battle also exposes a cultivation bottleneck: Lin'an County has no internal-force art suitable for his next breakthrough 11 12.

Admission Dispute and Chen Lan’s Death

Lin Shan claims credit for Lu Feng’s demon kills, supported by Zhao An and witnesses pressured by Lin Yuan. Lu Feng accepts a match despite his injuries and counters Lin Shan with Grasping Hand. During his subsequent recovery, Chen Lan cares for him, while Lin'an’s residents begin greeting him warmly rather than fearing him 13 14.

Lin Yuan’s celebratory banquet becomes an assassination attempt involving poisoned wine and twelve first-tier demons. Lu Feng kills the demons, but Lin Yuan takes Chen Lan hostage and fatally stabs her. Lu Feng kills him, then prepares to leave for the Bureau with the grieving Chen Hu 15 16 17.

Northern Bureau and Black Mountain Forest

Despite initial resistance at the Bureau, Lu Feng gains entry through Su Ying’s token and formally receives his guard equipment. Innate Primordial Qi raises him to Mid Nei Jin, and he begins seeking missions and merit resources 17 19.

He kills the pursuing Zhao An, follows a suspicious woman into a wolf demon trap, and instead destroys the silver wolf king’s den. Rescuing Xiao Huaishan leads to further hunting and enough resources to perfect several Nei Jin techniques 22 23 24 25 26.

Fire Saber Sect Investigation

Assigned to investigate disciple deaths, Lu Feng works with Zhou Si to question the apparent explanation of ape demon attacks. Missing ranked demons, Zhu Qi’s handwriting, and restricted access to Fragrant Virtue Hall point toward a concealed sect secret 29 33 36.

Inside the caves, he rescues Gan Ping, kills multiple demon kings, and discovers that their blood is feeding a formation used by Zhu Ren. When Zhu Ren transforms into a third-tier-strength Half-Demon, Lu Feng spends Demon Points to reach Hua Jin, withstands his strongest attack, and defeats him with three punches before beheading him 38 39 40 43 45 46.

Return Journey and Chen Hu’s Duel

After evolving his cultivation art, Lu Feng initially intends to limit further growth and conceal Hua Jin. An ambush on the return journey forces him to reveal it: he kills an Early Hua Jin attacker and seven Nei Jin martial artists, receiving Nine Layered Wave Slashes 48 49.

Back at the Bureau, he discovers that Chen Hu has agreed to a life-and-death duel with Lin Shan. He treats Chen Hu’s injuries and supplies a new saber, a Jin Burst Pill, and a Jin Origin Pill. The duel has not yet occurred by the end of the supplied account 50.
