Su Ying is the daughter of Su Xuanqing, the Northern Demon-Slaying Bureau’s chief. Her talent and family backing allow her to become a commandant at Hua Jin Perfection, below the bureau’s usual Grandmaster requirement, and establish her own independent residence 24.

She is also a Sacred Hall disciple, giving her access to Dao Arts unavailable to most bureau members. Her father describes her as especially gifted in these arts and recalls that Sacred Hall elders personally praised her talent. He nevertheless believes her fondness for amusement has held back her cultivation 86 148.

Food is one of her strongest interests. While traveling, she identifies regions by their demonic beasts and famous dishes, treating dangerous locations as prospective dining destinations. She eagerly hunts hares for Lu Feng to roast after failing to reproduce his cooking herself 81. Her knowledge of food preparation also lets her recognize that a restaurant attendant is concealing what happened to their missing dish 95.

She enjoys testing strength, repeatedly seeking sparring matches with Lu Feng and becoming increasingly curious about his techniques. Her confidence in him grows after witnessing his defenses, prompting an unsuccessful attempt to place another enormous wager on his championship 80 85 86.

Despite her combat ability, she is unsettled by human suffering. She cannot bring herself to argue with a bereaved survivor who blames the bureau for arriving too late, and she is shocked when Xiao Tianqi kills the woman. Although she accepts Lu Feng’s explanation of his actions, the emotional difficulty does not immediately disappear 82 83.

Her attachment to Lu Feng eventually outweighs her preference for freedom: she offers to remain in seclusion until the Celestial Person Realm and undertake the Sacred Hall’s saintess-candidate trials in exchange for her father’s help protecting him 148.
