Background / History
A-Wu comes from the Eros family and is Kadis Eros’s younger half-brother. Kadis became the West District elder roughly two years before Qi Zhou learned of their connection. A-Wu says he has no interest in his brother’s position, but Kadis refuses to let him leave Meteor City and orders that he be killed if he shows resistance 40.
Kadis made leaving conditional on escaping the T Arena. A-Wu survived that ordeal as a ten-year-old without Nen, though the circumstances are not disclosed. He later lived under surveillance: three men watched him for his brother, while two others sent by his father’s former butler ostensibly protected him. The butler sought to keep him alive but unable to learn Nen or leave 40 41.
Before meeting Qi Zhou, A-Wu had wanted Nen for two years. His knowledge of Meteor City’s gangs and surviving personal followers gave him resources to plan a return to power, despite living in a scavenged tent 35 36 41.
Appearance
- Eyes: Dark, with an expression of determination when he requests the dangerous Nen awakening 35.
- Teeth: Small canine teeth become visible when he smiles or bites his lip 36 41.
- Torso: Numerous wounds cover his back and chest 40.
- Aura: Pale gold, first visible during his awakening 35.
Personality
A-Wu is guarded, calculating, and comfortable with lethal solutions. He treats intelligence as something to trade, manipulates circumstances to secure allies, and considers eliminating potential threats preferable to waiting for them to attack. Qi Zhou’s refusal to kill uninvolved people genuinely puzzles and angers him, although he ultimately devises an alternative plan 31 34 36 37.
His harsh language often accompanies practical concern. After forming their alliance, he arranges to remain nearby during Qi Zhou’s poison attacks and regularly sits beside him through them. He also warns Qi Zhou against exposing his Phantom Troupe connections or joining a plan whose failure could implicate everyone involved. When Qi Zhou risks his life to rescue him, A-Wu angrily insists that he should have stayed away 37 47 49.
A-Wu is willing to risk death for a chance at independence. He accepts the potentially fatal consequences of forced Nen awakening as his own choice, then acknowledges his debt to Qi Zhou after succeeding 35.
Abilities & Skills
Nen
A-Wu demonstrates rapid practical learning after his forced awakening 35 37.
- Ten: Contains his aura around his body by redirecting its flow rather than trying to force it back inside 35.
- Object coating: Infuses a needle with Nen shortly after learning Ten 37.
- Further training: Studies the four major principles and Nen categories with Weisite, then continues training alongside Qi Zhou 44 45.
- Limits: No personal Nen Ability is documented in the supplied chapters. His category remains unconfirmed after Water Divination produces no observable result 45.
Close Combat and Knife Use
A-Wu is described as skilled in hand-to-hand combat and acts decisively against those monitoring him 40.
- Stabs a Nen-using watcher from behind with a thin knife, piercing his Ten and heart, then restrains and silences him until he dies 36.
- Kills all three men watching him for Kadis: one Nen user and two non-users 40.
- Survives the T Arena before acquiring Nen; the method is not revealed 40.
Intelligence and Political Strategy
A-Wu uses knowledge of gang hierarchies, surveillance, and competing interests to compensate for his initially limited power 31 41.
- Target intelligence: Identifies Kelirui’s role as an elder-appointed enforcer and supplies information on Suoerzite’s routine and security 31 32.
- Stock Solution investigation: Recognizes Qi Zhou’s poisoning, explains the drug’s addictive properties, and traces its distribution through the East District elder 34 49.
- Indirect coercion: Proposes exposing Kerien’s loss of manpower so others will remove him without their direct involvement 37.
- Faction recovery: Uses attacks on enemy strongholds to let surviving followers fake their deaths and rejoin him under new identities 46.
- Operational concealment: Emphasizes hiding strength and working through Wennide rather than openly revealing his identity 37 41.
Equipment / Items
- Thin knife: Used to kill a watcher through his Ten; A-Wu is later shown spinning a knife between his fingers 36 40.
- Cell phone: Maintains telephone contact with Qi Zhou and provides him with a discarded, repaired handset containing his number 44 47.
- Scavenged shelter: Initially occupies a tent made from wooden planks and waterproof tarps, with a straw-and-plank bed and a concealed bundle beneath it 36 37.
Relationships
- Qi Zhou — Trading partner, Nen instructor, and co-founder of the Wu-Zhou Alliance. Their initially transactional relationship develops into mutual protection; Qi Zhou explicitly calls him a friend 28 35 36 49.
- Kadis Eros — Older half-brother and enemy. Kadis restricts his freedom and threatens death if he resists; A-Wu plans to kill him and become an elder 40 41.
- His father’s former butler — Sends two men to protect and monitor him. A-Wu regards the arrangement as enforced confinement rather than trustworthy protection 41.
- Weisite — Contact who teaches A-Wu and Qi Zhou Nen fundamentals. A-Wu assures him that an unspecified promise remains valid for as long as A-Wu lives 44 45.
- Wennide — Gang leader whose growing influence provides cover and manpower for A-Wu’s plans 37 46.
- His surviving followers — Men left in the East District whom A-Wu searches for and extracts from surveillance through staged battlefield deaths 41 46.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Water Trade and the Suoerzite Operation
- Agrees to exchange food for water produced by Qi Zhou, after warning that Meteor City’s water supply is controlled by a small number of people 28.
- Establishes noon meetings and a fallback signaling system: one mark on their meeting mound postpones contact by three days, two by seven. Unremoved marks indicate possible danger and terminate the arrangement 29.
- Warns Qi Zhou that Kerien’s associates are searching for him, leading them to suspend their trade 29.
- After Kelirui’s death, offers intelligence for an attack on White Eagle Society president Suoerzite in exchange for being taught Qi Zhou’s extraordinary ability 31.
- Supplies information used in the infiltration. When Qi Zhou returns poisoned, identifies the Stock Solution but treats further information about its source as a separate bargain 32 34.
Awakening and the Wu-Zhou Alliance
- Persuades Qi Zhou to awaken his Nen through pressure despite the risk of death, successfully forms Ten, and acknowledges owing him a favor 35.
- Takes Qi Zhou to his tent to discuss the Stock Solution’s source and the difficulties of obtaining an inhibitor through Spicy Fragrance Mountain’s families 36.
- Kills a threatening watcher in front of Qi Zhou. Qi Zhou recognizes that A-Wu has been observing and maneuvering him, but accepts continued cooperation because their goals can benefit each other 36.
- Forms the Wu-Zhou Alliance with a handshake, then abandons his compromised tent for Qi Zhou’s District Nine garbage nest 36 37.
White Eagle Society and Faction Recovery
- Directs Qi Zhou toward the ambitious Wennide as their entry point into the weakened White Eagle Society 37.
- Reveals his relationship to Kadis and explains that killing his watchers will eventually provoke an assassination attempt 40.
- Proposes using the society to gain access to Chelsea Taber and the council of elders, where he intends to confront his brother 41.
- Arranges Nen instruction with Weisite and supplies Qi Zhou with a repaired phone to support their coordination 44 45.
- Over the following ten days, borrows Wennide’s forces to seize eastern strongholds and recover surviving members of his faction under new identities 46.
Abduction and the Council Plan
- Is captured by an unidentified, magician-like stranger investigating Suoerzite’s death and a possible connection to the Phantom Troupe. The captor uses his phone to lure Qi Zhou to District Five’s ruined clock tower 47 49.
- Is recovered unconscious after Qi Zhou confronts the stranger. Back at their shelter, Qi Zhou resets both of his dislocated arms 48 49.
- Warns Qi Zhou to conceal his ties to the Phantom Troupe, whose enemies could target him as an easier victim 49.
- Plans to approach Kadis after the elders’ gathering, then lead White Eagle Society members into the West District against his brother’s remaining followers. He cautions that failure would endanger all his associates 49.
- Reluctantly accepts Qi Zhou’s participation. By the latest supplied chapter, Qi Zhou has infiltrated the council manor and is waiting to meet him; the confrontation’s outcome is not shown 49 50.
