This Great Biological Extinction was much better than the last one, but it was still brutal. With survival being filtered again and again like this, only elites remained after each Epochal Cataclysm.
"Yet Tens of Millions of years have passed. Why is there still no sign of civilization?" Jiang Ping wondered. Was life simply too good from the start? Was there no pressure at all, just like the dinosaurs that had once ruled Earth?
In truth, Jiang Ping could have resolved every catastrophe in his capacity as the Creation God. But he could help them once, not for a lifetime. Letting things develop naturally was best.
At most, he would provide opportunities. He would not support them every step of the way. After all, he was the Creation God, not their babysitter. He had to maintain some dignity!
After the second Great Biological Extinction, Jiang Ping accelerated time once more. The land gradually settled down, and living creatures that had survived the disaster cautiously emerged one by one, beginning to occupy the ecological niches left behind. They evolved better and better, and were on the verge of completely conquering the skies!
The third generation of creatures no longer pursued sheer size. Instead, they became faster, stronger, and better adapted to complex environments. Jiang Ping even discovered a creature with a horn growing from its head and a body like a pangolin's. The hardness of its horn matched that of diamonds in reality!
Such a creature could almost never have evolved on Earth. Only a world containing spiritual energy could possibly produce one. Jiang Ping named this animal the Golden Armor Beast.
Even a trace of spiritual energy could evolve such a wondrous animal. Jiang Ping grew even more eager for a Supernatural World containing vast amounts of spiritual energy. The higher a world's level, the more Primal Points it consumed! He was still poor now! Otherwise, he could create countless gods and demons with a wave of his hand.
The Central Great Tree revived from the ashes once again. This was already its second rebirth. If its survival in the Primordial World from a branch in reality was counted, this was its third rebirth.
Even Jiang Ping marveled at its vitality. It surpassed its limits time and time again, and each time it did even better.
Jiang Ping named this era after the volcanic eruption the Ancient Era.
Competition in the ocean became even crueler this time. The second-generation ocean overlord had a slender body and was thirty meters long. Though it was not as massive as the Azure Dragon, its attack power was several times greater! Its enormous teeth were a full two meters long, and its bite force was terrifying, capable of easily tearing apart flesh. A first-generation Azure Dragon would not last five exchanges against a second-generation one! Jiang Ping named this second-generation overlord the Sword Sea Dragon.
The Central Great Tree grew increasingly verdant, and life flourished around it. Countless creatures depended on it. Though it was only two thousand meters tall, it was recognized as the king of the entire continent!
However, good times never lasted long. Of course, that was only from Jiang Ping's perspective. According to Primordial World time, this golden age lasted a full two million years.
This time, affected by the projection of the stars, the sun shone upon the Primordial World for less and less time. Temperatures gradually fell until the oceans continuously froze over. Ice layers three thousand meters thick wiped out ninety percent of marine life, and in the Blink of an Eye, the second-generation overlord, the Sword Sea Dragon, kicked the bucket as well.
Ice sheets swept from the Four Extremity Ocean across the land, eventually meeting at the center of the world. The Central Great Tree resisted longer than any other creature. Within ice three thousand meters thick, it slowly chiseled through the solid frost. Its body stretched five thousand meters long, all just to absorb a little more sunlight!
Sadly, it could not fight alone. The land was utterly silent. Even after resisting for a thousand years, the Central Great Tree still collapsed with a BOOM!
Creation Diary: Primordial Calendar, end of the Ancient Era. Temperatures plummeted, and ice layers three thousand meters thick swept across heaven and earth. The entire world became a boundless expanse of white, silent and still. Ninety percent of marine life died, and only tiny creatures in the Deepest Part barely survived.
Ninety-nine percent of creatures on the continent went extinct, leaving only cells within the ice. Perhaps once the ice melted, some creatures might survive by chance.
The Primordial World had changed beyond recognition, as if it had put on a white cotton coat. Not only had it grown a whole size fatter, it was blindingly white!
The Ice Age lasted a million years. During that time, creatures in the depths of the ocean continuously died off. In the end, even Jiang Ping could barely stand watching any longer. Yet he ultimately did not intervene. At the most critical point, only ten thousand creatures remained in the deep sea!
Yet it was precisely these ten thousand creatures that evolved structures with extreme cold resistance! They could survive at minus fifty degrees Celsius!
Creation Diary: Primordial Calendar, Ice Ancient Era. The world fell into slumber, and the few creatures remaining in the deep sea evolved bodies with extraordinary cold resistance.
BOOM!
Massive glaciers melted and collapsed. Beneath them ran freezing rivers, all formed from meltwater Gathered from the depths of the continent. In this environment, where it was unimaginable that any creature could survive, a young man wearing only a short-sleeved shirt ignored the glaciers and quietly walked across the snow.
"The glaciers have begun to melt. I wonder whether there are still any creatures beneath them that can revive." Jiang Ping gazed at the glacier beneath his feet, which was over a thousand meters thick.
Perhaps because he had seen Great Biological Extinctions so many times, Jiang Ping was much calmer now. He was no longer as moved as he had been the first time. As the saying went, a sword's edge was sharpened through grinding, and Plum Blossom Fragrance from Bitter Cold.
Were these repeated disasters not also tempering the essence of an entire era?
"This is it, the center of the world." Jiang Ping arrived atop an icy peak. This iceberg was clearly far taller than the others, because an unyielding king had once stood here! And now, this place had begun to slowly melt as well.
"This Little Fellow has actually begun drawing in meltwater, preparing to be reborn once again." Jiang Ping said with a smile. Through disaster after disaster, the Central Great Tree had continuously died and revived. Even Jiang Ping, as the Creation God, was astonished by its will.
"It truly is difficult to imagine that a small branch from Back Then could survive for Tens of Millions of years. After enduring disaster after disaster, perhaps it really has hope of Evolving into a World Tree."
The Creation Diary rarely spoke on its own initiative. Clearly, this great tree had also left a deep impression on it. "Perhaps the greatest gain from this act of creation is it."
Jiang Ping had not expected the usually steady Creation Diary to give the Central Great Tree such high praise.
The World Tree was the pinnacle of plant evolution. Any plant could possibly evolve into a World Tree, but carrying a world and the gods was easier said than done. Unless it was created and cultivated from birth with a massive expenditure of points, it was nearly impossible for an ordinary plant to evolve into a World Tree.
The Central Great Tree had already experienced lightning tribulations, fire disasters, and ice disasters. After every calamity, it became stronger. Like its current newborn self, it no longer feared lightning, fire, or ice. But it was still infinitely far from becoming a World Tree. Its thousand-mile journey had only taken its first step!
Jiang Ping continued touring the Primordial World, leaving a line of footprints across the snow.
"Haha, I never expected this Little Fellow to have Lived until now." Near the coastline, Jiang Ping laughed as he looked at the creature curled up inside its shell.
Though this creature frozen within the ice appeared dead, Jiang Ping could still sense a trace of life hidden in the Deepest Part of its shell. It was the Ancestor Shell Beast from Back Then. It had endured one era after another.
The overlords of Back Then had gone extinct One by one, yet it still existed in the world. Moreover, it had evolved to become increasingly formidable, almost immune to water and fire.
"It seems that being the strongest does not necessarily mean you will Survive. Knowing how to lie low is the true path to kingship!" Jiang Ping sighed.
Back in Earth's Cretaceous Era, a meteor struck the planet, and the dinosaurs that ruled Earth went extinct. The weak mammals instead survived, eventually evolving into Terrifying Hominids and unifying the globe!
Swoosh!
Jiang Ping looked strangely Beneath Their Feet. He had accidentally stepped on a Four-Leaf Clover. He wondered whether it would become a fossil Tens of Millions of years later. Thinking of how future intelligent races might excavate fossils and discover this shoeprint fossil while researching history, he returned to reality.
What he did not know was that this step would truly cause disputes in the future. It would even trigger a world-shaking war, bringing about an Epochal Cataclysm.
