RandomTranslator has two ways in for code and AI assistants, over the same data:

  • The API: read-only JSON over GET under https://randomtranslator.com/api/v1, with a personal API key. It gives a program what the site shows a reader: the catalogue, a novel's page and chapter list, Popular, genres, fandoms and tags, a novel's glossary and recaps, and your own library, reading position and notifications.
  • The connector: an MCP server at https://randomtranslator.com/mcp for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and other AI apps, with OAuth sign-in. See Use RandomTranslator in Claude, ChatGPT and other AI apps.

Both are meant for personal projects and tools: a Discord bot, a userscript, a reading tracker, an assistant that knows your library. They are not a way to copy the catalogue or the translations.

A machine-readable description of every route, parameter and field is at /api/v1/openapi.json (OpenAPI 3.1, no key needed).

Who can use it#

  • Sign-in and the Reader membership, always. Every API key and every connected app belongs to a signed-in RandomTranslator (Patreon) account with the Reader membership or higher. Nothing is offered anonymously, and there is no demo key.
  • If your membership lapses, your keys and connected apps stay but are refused until it is active again. You do not need to create or connect them again.
  • The website's own JSON (everything under /api/v1 that is not in the API reference) is not a supported API: it changes without notice and must not be scripted.

What is never available#

  • Chapter text. No API route and no connector answer contains a chapter's text. Chapters are read on the website, in RandomTranslator's own apps, or in an EPUB export you ask for, which counts against your daily chapter allowance.
  • Anything that spends. The API and the connector never translate or re-translate a chapter, request, refresh or rescrape a novel, use Google Translate, read aloud or call an AI model. They read what the site already holds.
  • Changes to your account. Nothing adds or moves a novel on your shelves, votes, comments or edits your profile.
  • DaoSearch data. DaoSearch (daosearch.io) is a separate site with its own API and connector. RandomTranslator serves none of its rankings, figures, reviews or booklists; a novel only links its DaoSearch page.
  • The Chinese source sites. Neither the API nor the connector returns or links a source site, and neither ever fetches from one.

Where to go next#

  1. Get a key, then follow the Quickstart.
  2. Read Limits: the daily chapter allowance is shared with the website.
  3. Look up a route in the API reference.
  4. Or skip the code: add the connector to Claude or ChatGPT.
