Reviews, Comments and Reporting

Rating, reviewing, and commenting are separate actions; you can do any combination of them on the same novel. Reports go straight to the moderation team, not into a public queue, so you won't see anyone else's reports.

Rating a novel#

On a novel page, select Good, Neutral, or Bad to rate it. Select the same rating again to remove it; your review, if you wrote one, stays. Your rating counts toward the novel's score out of 10, shown beside Opinions, "Based on N reader ratings". Good counts in full, Neutral counts half and Bad counts nothing, so a novel rated Good by three readers and Neutral by one scores 8.8. The bar shows the share of each rating.

Rating is separate from writing a review. You can do either, both, or neither.

Writing and editing a review#

1. On a novel page, select Write a Review.
2. Write your review, optionally attach one GIF, and select Submit.
3. Select the pencil icon on your review to edit it later, update the text, and select Submit again.

Chapter comments#

Every chapter has a comment section below the text. Signed-in readers can select Write a Comment to post a comment on the chapter, reply to another comment, like a comment, edit or delete their own, and report someone else's.

Paragraph comments#

You can also comment on a specific paragraph:

• On mobile, double-tap the paragraph.
• On desktop, right-click the paragraph, or hover it and use the handle that appears.

Select Comment on paragraph from the menu that appears. The dialog quotes the paragraph you selected; write your comment and select Post. It's posted as a regular chapter comment with the paragraph quoted above it.

Replies and likes#

Select Reply under a review or comment to respond; replies are threaded one level deep. Select View (N) to expand replies and Hide (N) to collapse them.

Select the heart icon to like a review, comment, or reply; select it again to remove your like.

GIFs, formatting, mentions and spoilers#

Reviews, comments and replies all support these.

• GIFs: select GIF in the formatting toolbar to search and attach one. You can attach one GIF per post.
• Mentions: type @ to search for a user and mention them, or select the @ icon in the toolbar. You can mention up to 5 users in one post. Mentioning a user notifies them, and the mention still points to the right person even if they later change their username. To get a moderator's attention, type @Mod: it's the first suggestion when you type @, and it notifies the site's moderator.

The formatting toolbar wraps your selected text with markdown:

Wrap text in double bars, ||like this||, to hide it behind a masked block. Readers tap or click the masked text to reveal it.

Posts that aren't accepted#

Reviews, comments, and replies are checked automatically when you post or edit them. The check only stops clearly abusive posts:

• hateful attacks on a race, nationality, religion, or other group
• threats against someone
• explicit sexual content, or anything sexual involving minors
• encouraging self-harm, such as telling someone to kill themselves

Swearing, criticism of a novel or its author, and talking about violent or dark scenes in a story are all fine.

If a post is stopped, you'll see a message explaining why. Nothing is posted, and your text stays in the box so you can edit it and try again. Quoted lines (starting with >) aren't checked, so quoting a paragraph from the novel never gets your comment stopped.

If a moderator removes a review, comment, or reply, it's deleted outright. There's no placeholder left behind.

Reporting a novel#

For a specific novel, such as wrong metadata, missing or broken chapters, a bad translation, or a better source, use the report rather than Discord: it routes straight to the moderation team. On a novel page, select Report (in the novel's more menu) to open the report dialog. Choose an area, then the specific issue:

Some issues show quick-reason chips to speed up your report. For example, Missing / incomplete offers "Chapters are truncated / missing text", "Some chapters are missing", and "Chapters are blank / not loading". You can always add your own description too.

A Status report offers Ongoing, Completed, Hiatus and Discontinued. Once approved, the status is locked against the site's daily status check (see Novel status).

Still in Chinese re-runs the novel's metadata translation and doesn't need a suggested replacement value. Reporting a Tags or Fandom issue lets you propose specific additions or removals rather than describing the problem in free text.

Resetting the glossary#

When you report Needs retranslation, you can also turn on Also reset the glossary. This clears the novel's glossary so names are re-detected as chapters retranslate; any entries a human has already edited are kept. Only use this if the glossary itself has systemic naming problems. Most retranslation issues don't need it.

Reporting a comment, review or wiki#

Select the flag icon on any comment, reply, or review to report it.

• Reporting a comment or reply gives you quick reasons: Spam or advertising, Harassment or abuse, Spoilers, Off-topic, Inappropriate content, plus a text field to add detail.
• Reporting a review or a review reply uses a text field only; describe the issue and select Report.

On a glossary wiki page, select Report to flag it. Choose an issue: Wrong image, Wrong / false info, Outdated, Inappropriate, or Other, each with its own quick reasons, plus a text field. Reporting a wiki needs the Reader membership or higher. See Reporting a wrong wiki for what each type is for.

What happens after a report#

A moderator, or RandomLord (Bot) if no moderator gets to it first, reviews your report. You get a notification when it's approved or rejected. If a novel report is approved, you also earn 20 XP the first time you report that novel successfully. See Levels and Achievements.

DMCA takedowns#

RandomTranslator doesn't have an in-app DMCA form. To file a takedown notice, email randomtranslator2@gmail.com with the details required under DMCA section 512(c)(3), or reach out through Contact. The DMCA page covers the full notice-and-takedown process, including how to file a counter-notification if your content was removed in error.
