Reading and contributing both earn XP, at the rates below, and moderators can award bonus XP by hand. Levels, achievements, and leaderboard rank all key off the same XP total.
What earns XP#

Moderators can also award bonus XP for other contributions.
How reading XP is counted#
- A chapter counts when the reader displays it, once per chapter per day. Rereading the same chapter the same day adds nothing.
- Days run on UTC. A day's reading XP is added after that day ends, not while you read.
- You need to be signed in. Reading while signed out isn't recorded.
- The daily cap is deliberate. A long reading session earns the same 25 XP as a 20-chapter one, so levels reflect showing up over time, not one marathon.
Note Reading XP counts every day since September 13, 2026, when the site began recording reading days. Reading from before that date is part of your preserved starting balance.
I didn't get XP for an edit#
Accepted glossary corrections and approved reports aren't credited instantly. A background job adds new XP to everyone's total once an hour. If your edit or report was just accepted, wait up to an hour and check your profile again before assuming something's wrong.
Two other reasons an accepted edit earns nothing: you already earned XP for that term (each term pays once per person), or the edit changed only the notes and no field such as the translation, gender, or type.
Levels#
Your level is based on your total XP. Progress toward your next level shows as a bar under your name on your profile, with the text "X XP to level Y". Levels run from 0 to 100. Level 100 is the maximum, shown as "Maximum level" instead of a progress bar.

The XP breakdown on your profile, visible only to you, splits your total into a preserved starting balance (from before the current progression system), XP earned since (shown as Reading and Contributions), and any bonuses or adjustments.
Achievements#
Achievements ("Awards") are earned automatically for reading, contributing, reviewing, rating, and discovering novels. A background job checks everyone once an hour, so a new award can take up to an hour to appear. Once earned, an award stays.
Tiers#
Every achievement has a tier, from most to least common:

Each earned award shows Held by N% of active readers: the share of readers who read something in the last 30 days and hold that award. It refreshes every hour.
Families#
Achievements come in families, each a ladder from its commonest step to its rarest:

Reading counts toward achievements the same way it counts for XP: each chapter once per day. For achievements the daily cap is 300 chapters, not 20. The Marathon and Caught Up families also need 1,000 chapters opened, so jumping straight to chapter 1,000 of a novel earns nothing. Reading history has only been recorded since September 13, 2026, so the top reading steps will take a long time to reach.
Secrets#
Some achievements are secret. They don't appear anywhere, locked or otherwise, until you earn one, and then they show in a Secrets section of your Awards. They're meant to be found, so this page doesn't list them.
Your Awards section#
Your Awards section shows how many you've unlocked out of the total, with a count for each tier. It opens on your rarest awards; View all shows every family.
On your own profile, achievements you haven't unlocked yet show too, greyed out, with a progress bar and count (for example "1,234 / 10,000 chapters opened"). Visitors see only the awards you've earned.
Display titles#
Most achievements can become a display title, including secret ones. It appears under your name on your profile, reviews, comments, the activity feed and the leaderboard, colored by its tier. Legendary and Mythic titles have a gradient.
Everyone with an award wears a title. Your first one is chosen for you: the rarest you've earned. Change it any time from the Display title dropdown at the top of your Awards section. When you earn a title of a rarer tier than the one you're wearing, you switch to it automatically. Two exceptions:
- Secret titles are never put on automatically. Wearing one is always your choice.
- If you picked a humbler title on purpose, you keep it until you earn something rarer again.
Your title always shows, whatever your privacy settings. Those settings decide which awards your profile lists, never your title.

Progression notifications#
You're notified when:
- You level up ("Level Up — Level
N") - You unlock one or more achievements ("Achievement Unlocked")
- You receive bonus XP from a moderator ("Bonus XP")

Leaderboards#
The leaderboard is at Leaderboard. It's separate from Popular, which ranks novels rather than readers.

Reviewers and Most liked are all time only because reviews and reply votes aren't dated, so there's no honest "this week" for them.
Preserved XP and bonus XP from moderators don't count toward Contributors.
When you're signed in, Your positions shows your rank on every board at once. Pick a board there to open it; your own row is highlighted in the table.
Turn off Leaderboard participation in your privacy settings to opt out of every board. Reading activity off also takes you off Readers and Chapters, and Community activity off takes you off Contributors, Uploaders, Reviewers, Commenters and Most liked. See Privacy settings.
