Background / History

Yuanshi Tianzun is one of the Three Pure Ones and a Sage of the Pangu Sect. Meng Zhang Divine Lord, the Azure Dragon Divine Lord, is his friend; at Meng Zhang's request, Yuanshi accepts Meng Chen after allowing him to choose freely among the Three Pure Ones. 1

After establishing the Jade Void Palace, Yuanshi appoints Meng Chen as Eldest Senior Brother and rewards his formal disciples with spiritual treasures. He teaches that the Chan Sect must respect life and nature, educate all beings, and revere Pangu through reverence for heaven, earth, and all living things. 2

Yuanshi's instruction reshapes his disciples' foundations through individualized spacetime realms. His teaching enables Meng Chen to comprehend all nine divine powers of the Golden Proclamation of Primordial Beginning in a single lecture. 3

He increasingly delegates Chan Sect authority to Meng Chen, viewing him as his successor and later entrusting him with the sect's affairs outright. Yuanshi formally abdicates as Leader of Teaching and transfers the Three Treasures Jade Scepter to Meng Chen before assuming the title of Supreme Leader of Teaching. 7 178 268

Following Ancestor Hongjun's abdication, Yuanshi accepts the position of Heavenly Dao Spokesperson. He merges with the Heavenly Dao Divine Wheel and becomes known as Yuanshi Dao Ancestor. 348 368

Personality

Yuanshi values order, responsibility, and clear rewards and punishments. He believes a sect leader must set an example for all living beings and argues that excessive leniency toward wrongdoing can create greater disasters. 34

He is deeply proud of his disciples' accomplishments, particularly Meng Chen and Zhen Yizi, and often treats their achievements as proof of his own success as a teacher. He is also highly protective: he personally prevents Meng Chen from going alone to Biyou Palace when he fears Intercepting Teaching disciples may provoke him. 25 268
