Background / History

Tang San begins as Yu Xiaogang's devoted disciple. When Han Yu humiliates Yu Xiaogang, Tang San rejects Han Yu's criticism of his teacher, kneels to apologize for doubting Yu Xiaogang, and seeks revenge alongside Xiao Wu. At the time, he relies on his Blue Silver Grass and Tang Sect techniques as a Soul Grandmaster. 5

Han Yu decisively defeats him and burns his Blue Silver Grass with Strange Fire, sealing his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline. The resulting internal damage leaves Tang San unable to circulate Soul Power without pain; Ye Lingling later identifies wounds too severe to have come from a normal cultivation accident. 16 17

Despite his weakened Martial Soul, Tang San enters Shrek Academy, becomes the practical leader of its students, and develops a reputation for combat awareness, battlefield control, and Hidden Weapons. He later reunites with Tang Hao, learns that Tang Hao is a Titled Douluo, and discovers that his mother was a soul beast whose Soul Bone was taken by Spirit Hall. 80 127 137 157

Determined to compensate for Blue Silver Grass's weakness, Tang San cultivates his Clear Sky Hammer. His attempt to force powerful Soul Rings onto the second Martial Soul causes a dangerous Soul Power conflict that leaves both Martial Souls destroyed and prevents normal cultivation. He later uses a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Bone to break through level fifty and continues primarily with the Clear Sky Hammer. 188 190 191 305

After losing his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline to A Yin in the Blue Silver Forest, Tang San abandons immediate pursuit of its restoration and focuses on revenge, resources, and consolidating power. 330

Appearance

Tang San is recognized by his distinctive crew cut even when Yu Xiaogang finds him in Spirit City. 208

  • Uses a Soul Guidance Device at his waist to store and deploy Hidden Weapons. 87 218
  • Wields Blue Silver Grass as one Martial Soul and the Clear Sky Hammer as his second. 187
  • His face is left disfigured after an unexplained incident in Suotuo City. 30

Personality

Tang San is initially intensely loyal to Yu Xiaogang, treating the teacher-student bond as permanent even after Yu Xiaogang's reputation collapses. He openly declares, “A teacher for a day is a father for life,” and continues to defer to Yu Xiaogang's guidance for years. 208 329

He is determined, calculating, and willing to gamble with his life for greater power. He repeatedly pursues Soul Rings beyond safe limits, seeking strength to protect his team, recover his mother's Soul Bone, and defeat stronger opponents. 160 190

Later, the Rakshasa God Trial corrupts and magnifies his ruthlessness. Tang San tortures Yu Xiaogang, forcibly absorbs the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School into the Tang Sect, kills dissenters, and eliminates Tai Shan to secure control over the Strength Clan. 408

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses the Blue Silver Grass and Clear Sky Hammer Martial Souls.

  • Blue Silver Grass — A control-oriented Martial Soul used for restraint, spores, battlefield obstruction, and long-range engagement. 39 160
  • Clear Sky Hammer — A powerful weapon Martial Soul cultivated after Tang San loses confidence in Blue Silver Grass. 187 188
  • Limitation — Adding Soul Rings to the Clear Sky Hammer produces severe Soul Power conflict with his other Martial Soul, eventually destroying both Martial Souls temporarily. 190 191
  • Blue Silver Emperor bloodline — Initially sealed by Han Yu, later completely drained by A Yin. 16 330

Blue Silver Grass Control

Tang San specializes in controlling opponents rather than confronting powerful beast Martial Souls directly.

  • Parasitism — Leaves spores in an opponent's body, then catalyzes their growth to restrain and obscure the target. 39
  • Can use Blue Silver Grass to close off attack angles and exploit momentary openings in an opponent's movement. 127
  • His control net is less effective when Blue Silver Grass is weakened or facing a superior Martial Soul. 39

Tang Sect Techniques

Tang San retains techniques and knowledge from the Tang Sect.

  • Hidden Weapons — Fires concealed mechanical weapons from his Soul Guidance Device, including large volleys capable of disrupting entire teams. 16 87
  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — A movement technique used to reposition after restraining an opponent. 39
  • Purple Demon Eyes — Used to improve visual perception and observe opponents' movements. 16 127
  • Crane Control Capturing Dragon — Used to manipulate and swing the Clear Sky Hammer. 187
  • His limited Spiritual Power initially prevents him from breaking Shi Nian's illusion despite recognizing it. 175

Chaotic Cloak Hammer Method

A hammer technique used with the Clear Sky Hammer.

  • Produces increasingly powerful consecutive strikes. 187 188
  • Tang San cannot initially unleash the full eighty-one hammers. 188
  • Its effectiveness is limited by his lower Soul Power and poor understanding of wind when fighting Feng Xiaotian. 188

Poison Knowledge

Tang San has substantial knowledge of poisons and medicinal herbs.

  • Identifies Dugu Bo's supposed poisoning and attempts to use that knowledge to pressure him. 136
  • Recognizes the potential value of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well and its Immortal Herbs. 131 133
  • Uses medicinal-herb trading to raise funds before planning an attack on the Canaan Commerce Association warehouse. 331
