Background / History

Hashirama Senju founded Konoha with the Senju Clan. When the clan’s privileged position began to threaten the village’s stability, he dissolved its branches and ended most members’ use of the Senju surname, intending to integrate them into the wider village. The Uchiha subsequently became Konoha’s most feared clan 35 228.

Under the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, Konoha fought the Land of Rain and later faced conflicts with other great nations. Its treatment of war hero Uchiha Liuyun—particularly its willingness to sacrifice him amid pressure from Cloud Village—severely damaged his relationship with the village. Public revelations eventually led Hiruzen to apologize and announce his resignation 94 213 252.

Government and Military

• Hokage: Hiruzen directed the village during the Fire–Rain War. After the later wars and political crisis, he dissolved the high-level council and called an election; Hatake Sakumo won and became Fourth Hokage 94 303 304.
• Ninja Academy: During a wartime manpower shortage, Konoha graduated thirty leading students early, including Liuyun and Kushina Uzumaki 108.
• Medical support: Wartime shortages prompted medical-ninjutsu instruction for selected academy students. Tsunade later proposed placing a Medical Ninja in every squad 101 184.
• Clan forces: Konoha deployed clan shinobi in combat and support roles, including Nara, Akimichi, Aburame, Sarutobi, Yūhi, Hyuga, Inuzuka, and Uchiha forces 124 348.

Relationships

• Uchiha Liuyun — Konoha celebrated him as a war hero, then alienated him during the Cloud dispute. He later aided its forces without returning to the village permanently 171 213 244 301.
• Hidden Sound Village — Founded by Liuyun with Orochimaru’s involvement; it later challenged Konoha and the other nations, becoming the sole military shinobi village after their defeat 234 430 461.
• Cloud Village — A proposed alliance collapsed over the attempted abduction of Kushina and Cloud’s demand that Konoha execute Liuyun 198 209.
• Land of Rice Fields — Formerly paid Konoha for protection and entrusted it with missions. After establishing Hidden Sound, it rejected Konoha’s demand for increased protection fees 161 259 260.
