Background

Kushina came to Konoha from Whirlpool Village and lived with her grandmother, Mito Uzumaki, at the Senju Clan Grounds. She survived the destruction of her homeland after her mother hid her in a cellar and drew the attackers away; later, Kushina could not identify her parents’ graves or even confirm whether their bodies had been buried. 221 331 332

At the Ninja Academy, her red hair made her a frequent target of classmates, who called her “Rotten Tomato.” She became Uchiha Liuyun’s deskmate after he awakened his Sharingan in class, initially fearing his scarlet eyes but becoming determined to uncover his secret. 1 2

Kushina struggles with trauma from Whirlpool Village, fear of the Nine-Tails, guilt over Liuyun’s apparent death and Asuka’s death, and the loss of her freedom as a Jinchūriki.
