Background
Charles Xavier inherited the estate that became Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, transforming it into a sanctuary and school for Mutants. He founded and led the X-Men while pursuing peaceful coexistence between humans and Mutants. His spinal injury left him dependent on a wheelchair for most of his life. 96 146
As one of the world's strongest psychics, Xavier used Cerebro to monitor Mutants and threats such as Magneto. While searching, he detected Bai Xing as a presence “like the sun,” but could neither read nor influence his mind; Bai Xing's soul was shielded by the Void Ancient Tree. Xavier also concluded that Bai Xing was not a Mutant and may not have originated from their world. 95 96
Appearance
Xavier is a bald, elderly man whose face retains an authoritative bearing. He initially uses a motorized wheelchair, but after receiving Bai Xing's Magnetic Field Seed, he regains mobility and develops a youthful, muscular physique. 97 98 103 110
- Bald head and aged features prior to receiving the seed. 98 103
- Initially paralyzed and wheelchair-bound due to his spinal injury. 97 146
- Later stands and fights physically after the Magnetic Field Seed enhances his body. 103 104
- Often operates Cerebro while monitoring global threats from Genosha. 130 137
Personality
Xavier is compassionate, patient, and deeply protective of Mutant children. When Bai Xing threatens him, he accepts personal risk rather than expose his students to danger; when Xavier's School is attacked, his immediate concern is rescuing the surviving children. 103 118
For much of the story, he believes that humans and Mutants must coexist peacefully, even when this makes him appear indecisive to Magneto and other Mutants. Government-sanctioned anti-Mutant violence, the destruction of his school, and his forced role in Apocalypse's sacrifices progressively undermine that conviction. 111 118 143
After experiencing innumerable lives and timelines through Bai Xing's Heaven-Earth Reincarnation Technique, Xavier abandons his previous restraint and reaches a catastrophic conclusion: existence is meaningless and all things should return to chaos. He subsequently uses Cerebro to psychically erase Mutants across the world. 145 148 150 151
Abilities & Skills
Psychic Power
Xavier is an exceptionally powerful telepath, regarded as the world's strongest psychic after Jean Grey's death. Through Cerebro, he can locate minds globally, communicate telepathically, read thoughts, and exert mass mental influence. 95 100 130
- Can broadcast directly into the minds of humans and Mutants worldwide through Cerebro. 130
- Can immobilize or influence targets from a distance, though other high-level psychics can contest him. 102
- Can mentally track individuals by their psychic signatures, but White Queen and other psychic interference can obscure targets. 104
- Is unable to penetrate Bai Xing's mind and is later blocked from intervening around the Life Temple by Bai Xing and the White Queen. 95 109 110
- While enslaved by Apocalypse's Psychic Heavenly Lock, controls countless civilians and compels them to march to Washington for sacrifice. 143
- Later launches a global psychic attack that kills or incapacitates nearly all Mutants on Earth. 151 152
Magnetic Field Seed
Bai Xing forcibly implants a Magnetic Field Seed into Xavier, granting him magnetic manipulation and removing the paralysis that had confined him to a wheelchair. Unlike a Life Seed, it does not require killing or absorbing Life Energy. 103
- Manipulates metal objects and generates electrical currents. 103 105
- Enhances his physique with animal-like traits, including bear-like strength, leopard-like speed, eagle vision, bat hearing, vibration sensing, adhesion, camouflage, and thermal vision. 104
- Uses electricity to incapacitate Juggernaut and strike opponents in combat. 105 110
- Reaches 300,000 Volts in Current Drive while defending the Life Temple entrance. 110
Psychic Burst Fist
A close-range attack combining physical force, Magnetic Force, and psychic impact. Xavier initially relies on repeated punches due to limited combat experience, but the technique becomes powerful enough to damage both an opponent's body and mind. 119
- Used against Namor, delivering simultaneous physical and psychic damage. 119
- At Magnetic Field Rotation, Xavier unleashes a 200,000-Horsepower Psychic Burst Fist against the Heavenly Magnet Demon. 154
Cerebro Operation
Xavier is the primary operator of Cerebro and its successor, “New Life,” using the devices to monitor the world, locate endangered Mutants, maintain Genosha's defenses, and issue global declarations. 104 130 137
- Coordinates worldwide rescue operations by marking locations of vulnerable Mutants. 117
- Maintains surveillance for Nimrod Sentinel activity and can activate Genosha's energy shield in an emergency. 137
- His prolonged connection to Cerebro leaves him vulnerable to overwhelming global hatred and grief. 144
Story Role / Major Arcs
Bai Xing's Arrival at Xavier's School
After detecting Bai Xing through Cerebro, Xavier sends Ororo to invite him to the school. He meets Bai Xing, learns that he is an outsider rather than a Mutant, and agrees to let him teach the students in exchange for Bai Xing's assistance with ability control and access to Beast's technical expertise. 95 97
Bai Xing later coerces Xavier into accepting a Magnetic Field Seed. Xavier accepts because resistance could endanger the students, though he remains wary of Bai Xing's motives. 103
Life Temple Crisis
Xavier attempts to stop Mutants from accepting Bai Xing's Life Seeds, warning them that the seeds consume vitality and require killing to sustain themselves. He and Logan defend the Life Temple approach for two days, enduring attacks and abuse while refusing to abandon their principles. 110
The government's deployment of the Smiling Armors and the Evolutionary Alliance shatters much of Xavier's faith in peaceful cooperation. Nevertheless, he continues fighting the anti-Mutant forces and insists that coexistence remains the only viable future. 111
Genosha and the New X-Men
After Magneto destroys Genosha's oppressive regime, Xavier agrees to help rebuild it as a Mutant nation but refuses to relocate Xavier's School there. He brings Nightcrawler, Colossus, Shadowcat, and Beast to assist with reconstruction and the rehabilitation of rescued Mutants. 116 117
Following the destruction of Xavier's School by Sentinels, Xavier is devastated but focuses on finding the missing students. He later secretly forms the New X-Men under Logan's leadership to prevent the coming conflict from spiraling beyond control. 118 123
Xavier eventually reaches a political compromise with Magneto: Magneto leads Genosha's war effort, while Xavier handles peace, reconstruction, and governance. Using Cerebro, he publicly declares Genosha a sovereign Mutant nation and demands recognition, citizenship, and amnesty for Mutants worldwide. 130
Apocalypse's Horseman
While Magneto is absent, Apocalypse invades Genosha and demands Xavier's submission. Xavier accepts the role of Horseman to protect Genosha and the surviving X-Men, negotiating only for Apocalypse's promise to defend Mutant lives. 137
Apocalypse places a Psychic Heavenly Lock on Xavier, Iceman, and the White Queen. Under this control, Xavier uses Cerebro to direct civilians toward Washington, where they are slaughtered for Apocalypse's ritual; Magneto later helps him break the lock. 138 143
Heaven-Earth Reincarnation and Collapse
Overwhelmed by guilt and the world's hatred, Xavier becomes the target of Bai Xing's Heaven-Earth Reincarnation Technique. His mind experiences countless lives, identities, tragedies, and timelines of Mutant extinction while only hours pass in reality. 145 149
The experience allows him to enter Magnetic Field Rotation, but it also drives him toward nihilism. Concluding that suffering and existence are meaningless, he psychically exterminates Mutants on a global scale and claims he is saving them from future suffering. 150 151 154
