Power Progression

The government’s “Ajin Stage Theory” classifies observed abilities; later events establish that electromagnetic power can be bestowed externally by Bai Xing and is not conclusively an innate Ajin trait. 35 57 80

History

Ajin first entered public awareness after an “Immortal Soldier” was discovered in Africa twenty-six years before the story’s early events. Their actual origin remains unknown, and the number of Ajin living undetected is believed to greatly exceed the official count. 2 68

Japan established the Ajin Management Committee / Ajin Research Management Association to locate and study Ajin. Captured Ajin were treated as test subjects, enduring repeated deaths, amputations, and regeneration experiments. 2 3

The institutional abuse of Ajin became public when Tanaka Kouji disclosed that government-linked companies had used captured Ajin for pharmaceutical trials, industrial testing, and poison-gas development. He identified the imprisoned Ajin as victims who could feel every injury despite their immortality. 11

Ajin Physique and Regeneration

An Ajin’s immortality comes from Black Particles produced within the body. Upon death, these particles reconstruct damaged flesh and return the body to a functional state. 3 7 35

• Bullets and other foreign objects can disappear during regeneration. 7
• An Ajin can regenerate from the largest remaining portion of their body; even total pulverization can force revival from the largest surviving cell or particle. 7 278
• Sato exploited this rule by preserving and transplanting his organs, allowing him to revive from a transplanted liver after his main body was vaporized. 42
• Ajin can deliberately kill themselves to reset injuries or harmful physical conditions. 5
• Regeneration does not fully restore mental exhaustion or depleted Magnetic Force. 23 24
• Injuries sustained before becoming an Ajin may remain outside the normal scope of regeneration, as shown by Okuzan Masumi’s damaged legs. 26
• Tranquilizers, repeated lethal fire, imprisonment, and sealing methods can still suppress or contain an Ajin. 7 23 50

Black Ghosts / IBM

Ajin may manifest Black Particles as combat entities commonly called Little Black or Black Ghosts. Ordinary humans cannot see them. 6 7

• Their claws and fangs can pierce metal and shatter stone. 6
• A Black Ghost can act as an Ajin’s avatar when infused with its user’s consciousness. 6
• Advanced Black Ghosts may develop independent awareness. 6 16 27
• Not every Ajin can summon one; ordinary summoned Black Ghosts generally last only about ten minutes and require a recovery period before being called again. 9
• Nagai Kei is an exceptional case, capable of repeated summons and prolonged deployment. 9

Electromagnetic Control

Electromagnetic Control, also called Magnetic Force, is wielded by certain Ajin and non-Ajin who receive Bai Xing’s Magnetic Field Seed. The seed forms a master-servant connection with Bai Xing while granting its recipient electromagnetic power. 2 35 57

• Users can channel electricity into physical attacks and communicate through electrical currents amid combat. 40 51
• Sato used electromagnetic interference amplified through Tokyo Tower to transmit a message to every electronic device in Tokyo. 50
• Magnetic Force is treated as a subjective power: conviction and mental state affect growth and breakthroughs. 79

Nagai Kei’s capture as Test Subject No. 003 demonstrates the treatment of captive Ajin as disposable laboratory material. Sato’s attempt to rescue him fails after Bai Xing intervenes, leaving both Sato and Nagai in institutional custody. 3 7

Tanaka later broadcasts evidence of Ajin experimentation, shifting public awareness from government claims of protection to the reality of systematic exploitation. 11

Stage Two Crisis

After Sato, Nagai, and other seed recipients develop electromagnetic powers, the government labels them “Second-Stage Ajin.” The perceived emergence of this stage attracts international attention and prompts plans to use Ajin against other Ajin. 35 42

Tokyo Extinction

Sato releases AJVX nerve gas over Tokyo, causing hidden Ajin to discover their identities when they die and revive. He then summons surviving Ajin to Tokyo Tower, seeking to turn the city into an Ajin-controlled autonomous zone. 48 50
