Background / History

Chen Yan found Facai severely injured and near death in a drainage ditch in Shanxi Town. After bringing him home, Chen Yan named the black cat “Facai,” meaning wealth, and Facai accepted the name with an approving meow 4 358.

Facai proved indispensable during Chen Yan's early encounters with Skin-Peeling Puppets. He assisted in the first kill, saved Chen Yan from the bizarre human face at the cost of a grievous abdominal wound, and later helped eliminate bandits and invading puppets 5 12 25 87. A Great Return Pill restored him and dramatically strengthened his body 13.

Although Facai's blood qi soon exceeded that of ordinary beasts, he delayed demon transformation far longer than expected. His eventual seven-day transformation on Black Mountain culminated in a Qiongqi bloodline awakening, though his initial form remained incomplete and wingless 106 233 235.

After awakening his bloodline, Facai increasingly fell into prolonged slumber. True Monarch Wuchen identified the probable cause as an incomplete soul, while Chen Yan later confirmed that Facai had lost one soul and three corporeal souls. The missing fragments were believed to be somewhere within the Inner World 363 364.

In the Ancient Immortal Sect Ruins, Facai sensed a voice from the remains of an adult Ancient Qiongqi. He subsequently refined Innate Geng Metal Killing Qi, obtained the Killing Life Dao Seed, and evolved into a complete Ancient Qiongqi through the remains' residual power 465 478 480.

Facai normally disguises himself as a sleek black cat. His true form is that of a Qiongqi: a tiger-like fierce beast with dark fur, a horn, wings, and an oppressive demonic presence.

Facai is proud, independent, and highly self-assured. He expects Chen Yan to recognize his accomplishments, whether through neck scratches, massages, or praise, and reacts with obvious disdain when offered inferior food 10.

Despite his haughty temperament, Facai is fiercely loyal. He repeatedly intervenes when Chen Yan is in danger, protects the old woman's family when assigned to do so, and remains bonded to Chen Yan even through his long periods of sleep and transformation 12 87 106.

He is also alert and intelligent. Facai can communicate intent through behavior and meows, hunt and store fish independently, recognize danger, and become wary when Chen Yan considers using an ability on him for testing 10 117.
