Background & History

Ghost Cry Sect was a native Ghost Dao force of the Netherworld Realm that became one of the Endless Sea's four dominant demonic and ghost sects. Its rise was attributed to its ancestor, Gongsun Yang, who elevated it from a second-rate force to a top-tier power over roughly a millennium 250 320.

Despite its standing among the four great sects, Ghost Cry Sect had a shallower foundation than Chongming Sect and Heavenly Corpse Sect. It possessed two Refining Spirit into Void cultivators: Gongsun Yang, a ninth-refinement Yin God, and Sect Master Jiang Li, a third-refinement Yin God 259 268. Its influence rested heavily on Gongsun Yang's strength and Ghost Cry Island's mountain-protecting formation 319 320.

Expansion into Xiangzhou

During the Second Blood Moon, Mount Lao Daoist Sect sought Ghost Cry Sect assistance against Chen Yan's forces. The request reached the sect's prodigy, Wu Yuanying, while the four major Endless Sea sects were dividing territory in the Netherworld Realm 248 250.

Wu Yuanying investigated Xiangzhou personally after learning of the conflict. He treated the Mount Lao disciple who brought the request as disposable, having a ghost general devour him after questioning him 250. Wu Yuanying regarded Xiangzhou as Ghost Cry Sect's intended territory and did not initially consider its local cultivators a serious threat 250.

After Wu Yuanying's defeat, Chen Yan used his appearance and memories to deceive the sect. Posing as the Ghost Cry Sect prodigy, Chen Yan received five thousand elite disciples and five Refining Qi into Spirit elders arriving from the Endless Sea 259 263.

Destruction of the First Reinforcements

The reinforcement force was led by Ma Peng, the perfected Refining Qi into Spirit head of the Law Enforcement Hall. Chen Yan maintained his disguise long enough to bring the Ghost Cry Sect members to Mount Lao, where they were caught in a prepared banquet trap 263 264.

The ambush annihilated Ma Peng, the four accompanying elders, and the five thousand elite disciples. The loss severed Ghost Cry Sect's contact with the Nine Provinces for several years 266 268.

Invasion of Mount Lao

After the Third Blood Moon stabilized the passage between the Endless Sea and the Nine Provinces, Ghost Cry Sect mobilized an army of fifty thousand under Jiang Li. The force included roughly thirty thousand Ghost Cry Sect disciples and followers, supplemented by twenty thousand troops from affiliated forces 300 328.

Jiang Li altered the original plan to attack three Xiangzhou commanderies separately after Chen Yan disappeared from the Human Ranking. He instead led the main force directly against Mount Lao, intending to strike at Xiangzhou's center 304.

Ghost Cry Sect deployed the Myriad Ghost Seclusion Great Array to seal Mount Lao during the battle. Jiang Li also recruited the Yin God cultivator Heavenly Cripple Elder, giving the assault two Refining Spirit into Void combatants 306. The campaign ultimately failed, and the Soul Lamps of Jiang Li, the sect's elders, and over thirty thousand members were extinguished 319 321.

Fall of Ghost Cry Island

With Ghost Cry Sect's expeditionary army destroyed, Gongsun Yang remained on Ghost Cry Island with fewer than three thousand mostly low-cultivation disciples. The island's last defense was its ninth-refinement Yin God ancestor, its aging Golden Core elders, and its mountain-protecting formation 319 322.

Chen Yan led the Dragon Sparrow Army to Ghost Cry Island and broke the sect's protective formation with the Dragon Sparrow Saber. The formation's black river, condensed from Ghost Howl Peak's Yin Vein and countless vengeful spirits, had once allowed Gongsun Yang to contend with multiple ninth-refinement Yin Gods 322 323.

Gongsun Yang was killed when the Dragon Sparrow Saber manifested as the Dragon Sparrow and unleashed Phoenix True Fire. The fire then destroyed the remaining sect disciples while avoiding the Dragon Sparrow Army 323 324. After the last core disciple was eliminated, Ghost Cry Sect was considered completely annihilated 327.
