Background / History
Kassadin's early objective was to spread the Void's will to more creatures in exchange for Void Energy. He rejected publicly founding a school, judging that it would attract the attention of powers such as Odin and the Ancient One before the Cult was ready. 6
The Cult was established on Void Island near Xandar. After its facilities were built, Kassadin spread a public invitation to bounty hunters and other seekers of power; Renoli, Kyle, the Precognitor, and Lacey became the first batch of pioneers to receive the Void Blessing. 87 94 102
Its reputation expanded rapidly through bounty-hunting work, technological development, and military intervention. At one point it had 387 registered members, while Renoli, Kyle, the Precognitor, and Lacey had completed more than 127 Tier 3 bounty missions together. 225
The Cult intervened against Ronan's fleet near Xandar, destroying Kree fighters and infiltrating Ronan's flagship. The Nova Corps considered direct conflict with its members dangerous and ordered personnel to keep their distance. 297
It later seized Knowhere from the Collector during the War of Knowhere. Kassadin personally forced back High Heavenly King, while Sonia suppressed High Heavenly King's Undead Legion. The victory established the Cult as one of the universe's major powers. 750
The Cult entered open war preparation against the Kree Empire, assigning unit and squad captains before launching a campaign that overwhelmed the Calamity Legion and ultimately led to the Kree Empire's fall. Kassadin's Dark Star manifestation marked the final annihilation of Hala's resistance. 735 764 772 776
Doctrine and Membership
Void Blessing
The Void Blessing grants a longer lifespan and a path of continuing evolution. Members can grow stronger by absorbing substances, but increased hunger and the danger of losing one's sanity are inherent risks. 102 529
- Evolution has no fixed form; members may develop toward their weaknesses, needs, or ambitions. 345
- Reckless evolution driven by unchecked desire can turn a member into a monster obsessed only with devouring and evolving. 345 699
- The Cult expects members to retain reason, basic human decency, and self-control rather than become beings without desire. 345 535
- A widely circulated rumor claims that anyone receiving a Void Blessing will eventually reach cosmic-level strength. 682
- Long-lived members may gradually lose attachment to their original race as familiar people and places disappear over time. 583
Trials
Prospective members must undergo Kassadin's individualized trials before receiving a blessing. The requirements differ between candidates and cannot be disclosed, including to family or friends. 682
- Time, faith, conduct, and piety are treated as measures of a candidate's sincerity. 422
- Revealing a trial's contents prevents a candidate from successfully receiving a blessing and may invite severe punishment. 682
- Thousands of applicants may gather at the Void Temple, but the number who ultimately pass has declined over time. 420
- Star-Lord prayed and waited for more than six hundred days before successfully joining. 545 582
Precepts
Kassadin established three commandments and one tenet when the Cult was first explained to Dam; the specific wording is not recorded in the available accounts. 77
The Void Temple's stone tablet contains doctrines and precepts personally inscribed by Kassadin. Violating these rules may result in death regardless of a member's contributions, particularly when a person has fallen into uncontrollable desire. 687 699

Perfected Force
Perfected force is a foundational combat-control discipline discovered and divided into nine stages by Sonia. 698
- The first stage is available to outsiders as basic power-control training; deeper instruction is reserved for Cult members. 698
- Even introductory mastery is considered high-level combat skill by the standards of other civilizations. 698
- Sonia and Lacey are stated to be the only known members to have mastered the ninth stage. 698
- Concealing killing intent and suppressing one's aura are mandatory techniques on Void Island. 759
Influence and Reputation
The Cult's selection of Xandar provided access to advanced technology, relative order, and the indirect protection of the Xandar Empire. Its location also screened out many openly notorious criminals. 452
The Nova Corps and the Xandar Empire treat the Cult with caution and reverence. They do not monitor Void Island's interior, infiltrate it, or provoke its members, fearing that such acts could be seen as hostile. 344 368
Tony Stark's technology made the Cult a major technological force. His work lowered the price of gravity devices and wormhole-jump technology, while his cosmic battleship became recognizable by its Void Pioneer insignia. 368
Within less than fifteen years of its establishment, the Cult had developed at least nine top cosmic powerhouses and more than six hundred members assessed at Planet-level or above. 732 752
Relationships
- Xandar Empire / Nova Corps — Hosts the Cult's main base and maintains a cautious, mutually beneficial coexistence with it. 330 562
- Asgard and the Nine Realms — Allied through Odin's membership; Asgardian members generally fall under Odin's internal faction. 469 530
- Knowhere — Captured from the Collector and subsequently incorporated into the Cult's sphere of influence. 750
- Kree Empire — Enemy force defeated during the Cult's first major interstellar war. 735 776
- Saint Nicholas Civilization — A civilization with ties to several Cult members; its leaders considered seeking the Void Blessing and eventual protection. 671
- Olympian Pantheon — A wary external power whose members debated opposing the Cult as its influence grew. 772
Major Arcs
Recruitment and Establishment
Kassadin built Void Island into a place where seekers could petition for blessings without being forcibly recruited. Sonia prepared combat materials, gravity equipment, and reception procedures as applicants began arriving. 95 102
Rise on Xandar
The Cult developed from a bounty-hunter-centered organization into a recognized force on Xandar. New Year pilgrimages brought members back to Void Island in space fighters and cosmic battleships, publicly displaying its wealth and cohesion. 245
War of Knowhere
After Tony reported the Collector's threat, Kassadin ordered war preparations against Knowhere. The ensuing campaign displaced the Collector and elevated the Cult into the ranks of major cosmic powers. 397 750
Kree Empire War
The Cult declared war readiness two years before its planned campaign, then organized members into units and squads under publicly announced captains. Its stated objectives were to destroy the Supreme Intelligence, limit the war's spread, and expand the Cult's reputation for future growth. 735 764 769
The Kree campaign demonstrated that the Cult's members could overwhelm the Calamity Legion even before Kassadin intervened. Kassadin's eventual appearance and Dark Star ended the conflict decisively. 772 776
Trivia
- The Cult's members collectively responded to Kassadin's transformation from Void Skin to Void Body with the cry, “Long Live the Void.” 338
- Void Island appears peaceful and orderly to outsiders, but its training grounds reveal an intensely competitive culture of self-improvement. 698
- Kassadin's prolonged absence is considered a potential long-term threat to internal unity, as some members might eventually seek independence without his authority. 675
