Background / History
Harvey lived publicly as a young New York tycoon while secretly operating as the mercenary known as the Grim Reaper. His shadow camouflage let him infiltrate targets without detection, but he refused to use it for indiscriminate crime; instead, he accepted paid assassination and infiltration work. His money was laundered to sustain a legitimate public identity. 1 2
Records investigated by Tony Stark described Harvey as an Asian-American orphan who had been ostracized in childhood. At eighteen, he won the lottery, then rapidly built a multibillion-dollar fortune through investments and market timing. He sold $1.1 billion in Stark Industries stock before Tony Stark ended weapons production, later intending to buy during the resulting collapse. 2 12
After S.H.I.E.L.D. investigated him, Harvey concealed his abilities by convincingly posing as an ordinary, wealthy civilian during Natasha Romanoff’s firearm test. He rejected recruitment into the Avengers Initiative because he would not accept political control or serve under another organization’s command. 7 11
After gaining Void Walker Kassadin’s spatial abilities, Harvey left Earth for Xandar. There, he adopted the Kassadin identity, became a legendary bounty hunter, accumulated wealth and reputation, and began establishing the Void Cult. 47 49 68 83
Appearance
Harvey is a handsome, black-haired young man whose public image is that of a fashionable New York billionaire. When acting as Kassadin, he presents himself as an imposing, masked Void entity rather than Harvey Anberaka. 8 49 161
- Kassadin attire — Purple-and-gold battle armor, golden mask, white battle robe, and golden eyes. 49
- Voidreaver Kha’Zix form — A purple, mantis-like Void form; after extensive evolution, it exceeded 600 meters in height. 2 341
- Void Terror Cho’Gath form — An approximately 800-meter-tall purple monster covered in sharp bone spikes. 341
- Void Armor disguise — His armor can fabricate scan-resistant identity data, preventing Xandarian registration scans from revealing his actual details. 49
Personality
Harvey is independent, patient, and highly pragmatic. He seeks strength, wealth, and freedom rather than the responsibilities of a conventional superhero. Though he admires heroes who save others, he does not want to dedicate his life to serving a nation or being bound by public expectations. 17 601
He avoids needless killing and will not kill merely for Evolution Points, but responds lethally to direct hostility or attack. His restraint is rooted in choice rather than weakness; he is willing to intimidate, injure, or kill when he considers it necessary. 4 35 494
Harvey is also cautious about the corrupting instincts of the Void. Early use of his Kha’Zix form exposed him to overwhelming killing intent and urges to devour and evolve; as his power grew, he became able to transform without fearing the prototype’s will. 2 341
Abilities & Skills
Void System and Evolution
Harvey possesses a League of Legends-based Void System that grants Hero Templates and lets him evolve by absorbing energy-containing substances.
- Absorbs energy from food, metals, creatures, and other energy-bearing matter to gain Evolution Points. 1 8 53
- Gains rapid adaptive evolutions in hostile environments, including underwater breathing under deep-sea pressure. 8
- Can choose specific evolutionary paths when spending accumulated points, though environmental adaptation evolutions cannot be chosen. 8
- Possesses the Void race’s long lifespan. 1
- Hero Origin and Hero Ascension functions provide access to additional Void forms and Hero Templates. 6
Enhanced Physiology
Repeated Void Skin and Void Body evolution gave Harvey extreme physical power, durability, speed, and environmental resistance.
- Firearms cannot penetrate his body; poison, fire, ice, and lightning are not normally fatal threats. 2
- Can survive unprotected at the deepest parts of the ocean. 8
- Reached Mach 24 physical flight and Mach 36 through Void Assault after 381 evolutions. 69
- A hundredfold gravity chamber felt like only slight pressure to him. 93
- Void Body grants conscious methods for refining and strengthening his physique, unlike the instinctive growth provided by Void Skin. 341
Voidreaver Kha’Zix
Harvey’s original and most-developed Hero Template grants stealth, predatory combat ability, and a destructive transformed form.
- Camouflages within darkness and becomes invisible wherever shadows exist. 1
- Produces blades capable of cutting steel and possesses near-superhuman leaping ability. 1
- Can summon Void Spike attacks and scythe-like slashes capable of dismembering massive creatures. 52
- His evolved true form exceeded 600 meters and could create canyons hundreds of miles long with repeated purple-blade strikes. 341
- Limit: Early transformations subjected him to Kha’Zix’s killing intent and dark thoughts, risking loss of sanity if sustained too long. 2
Void Walker Kassadin
Kassadin’s template gave Harvey Void magic, spatial traversal, phasing, and magical combat tools.
- Void Descent — Travels through the Void, opens black holes, crosses interstellar distances, and can trigger destructive Void explosions upon entry or travel. 46 49
- Spatial perception — Sees through the fundamentals of space and can assess destinations before descending into them. 46
- Phasing — Passes through physical matter, including a warship’s armor. 66
- Void Orb — Invades a target with Void Power, disrupts magical flow for three seconds, and produces Void Armor against magical intrusion. 46
- Void Blade — Coats attacks and his body in Void Power, strengthening magical destruction; can be actively charged for a stronger next attack. 46
- Energy Pulse — Absorbs residual magic and Void energy within 100 meters, then releases the stored energy as a pulse whose range and power depend on the amount absorbed. 46
Void Terror Cho’Gath
Harvey later obtained Cho’Gath’s template, greatly increasing his physical scale and destructive output.
- Generates enormous bone spikes through Fear Spike and Void black holes. 341
- Its roar produces destructive sound waves that can shatter ground and extinguish flames across a hundred-mile radius. 341
- Can consume and manipulate immense quantities of fire in Cho’Gath form. 341
- Retains Void Shift and Void Descent while transformed. 341
- His Cho’Gath form can devastate a planet’s landscape; attacking a planet’s core could give him limited star-shattering capability. 341
Void Eye Vel’Koz
After choosing Vel’Koz’s template, Harvey gained rule-based perception and analysis.
- Perceives the rules governing attacks, internal energy, and the structure of objects. 734
- Can alter or destroy attacks by disrupting the trajectory of their underlying rules. 734
- Sees through layers of space into other universes and detects creatures within the multiverse. 734
- Can analyze the fundamental structure, origin, and purpose of phenomena. 734
Dark Star Power
Harvey fused Dark Star power with Void Power during a seventy-two-day sublimation.
- Underwent two physical sublimations and became capable of protecting himself in the multiverse. 525
- Can travel through the multiverse and vanish into the Void beyond perception. 526
- His life form has broken free of time-and-space constraints, preventing direct erasure or reality alteration from removing him. 526
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Kassadin battle armor — Void-magic armor that manifests at will; includes a golden mask, robe, and scan-resistant identity concealment. 49 110
- Universal translator — Acquired on Xandar; allows Harvey to understand alien languages and access translated network information. 49 56
- Luxury vehicles — Maintains multiple high-end cars, including an Audi R8 and a Ferrari convertible, to support his billionaire persona. 2 7
- Gravity devices — Obtained from Xandar and later provided to Tony Stark for study and replication. 108
Relationships
- Tony Stark — Friend and frequent collaborator. Harvey advises Tony on Obadiah Stane, gives him Xandarian gravity devices, and intervenes when Tony and Thor cannot defeat the Destroyer. 16 108 161
- Sonia — Caretaker of Harvey’s Xandarian villa and a key manager of the Void Cult. Harvey values her intelligence, guides her evolution, and increasingly trusts her judgment. 60 253 341
- Nick Fury — Strained relationship. Fury tried to recruit and investigate Harvey; Harvey’s refusal and threats led S.H.I.E.L.D. to avoid provoking him. 4 32 108
- Natasha Romanoff — Initially tested Harvey by firing a gun near him to expose superhuman reflexes; Harvey maintained his civilian act and later held the incident against S.H.I.E.L.D. 7 11
- Phil Coulson — S.H.I.E.L.D. recruiter who dealt diplomatically with Harvey’s refusal to join the Avengers Initiative. 11
- Thor — Assisted by Harvey against the Destroyer. Thor was left stunned by Harvey’s power, while Harvey remained detached from Asgardian affairs. 161 162
- Eternity — Met Harvey across time and space after the Vel’Koz template advancement. Eternity warned him against disturbing multiversal order; Harvey promised only to seek land for himself. 734
Story Role / Major Arcs
Grim Reaper of New York
Harvey builds wealth and a lawful public identity while secretly accepting mercenary work as the Grim Reaper. S.H.I.E.L.D.’s attempts to determine whether he has powers fail because Harvey performs the role of a frightened civilian convincingly. 1 7 8
Break with S.H.I.E.L.D.
After Coulson offers Avengers Initiative recruitment, Harvey rejects it outright, citing S.H.I.E.L.D.’s political constraints and Natasha’s reckless test. His conflict with Nick Fury ultimately establishes S.H.I.E.L.D.’s policy of avoiding him unless absolutely necessary. 11 32 108
Kassadin the Cosmic Bounty Hunter
Harvey acquires Void Walker Kassadin’s abilities, travels from Earth to Xandar, and takes the Kassadin identity. He completes high-level disaster bounties, including the Desert Disaster and Doomsday Worm missions, becoming the first Level 3 bounty hunter and gaining galactic fame. 46 49 52 66 68
Founding the Void Cult
Using his reputation, wealth, and Xandarian island purchase, Harvey establishes the Void Cult and prepares to spread the will of the Void to those willing to accept its power. 60 83
Defender Without Allegiance
Though he refuses formal affiliation with the Avengers Initiative, Harvey aids Tony and Thor when the Destroyer attacks him. He redirects its golden beam into a Void black hole and destroys the supposedly indestructible construct by severing its connection to Godly Power. 161 162
God of the Void
After obtaining Cho’Gath’s template, Harvey develops the Void Summoning concept and considers ways to monitor and enforce the Void Cult’s precepts across the universe. 341 342
Multiversal Ascension
Dark Star sublimation raises Harvey to multiversal self-preservation, while the Vel’Koz template allows him to perceive the multiverse’s rules and meet Eternity directly. Eternity ultimately classifies him as an existence not to be provoked. 525 526 734
Trivia
- Harvey’s appetite is both a personal pleasure and a primary source of Evolution Points; at one point, each of his five daily meals could feed roughly 100 people. 8
- He deliberately avoids consuming iron and steel unless survival requires it because he finds the experience nauseating. 8 74
- Harvey originally planned to absorb Vibranium to gain evolution energy. 2
- He prefers to remain free of superhero obligations, even when his strength makes him one of Earth’s greatest safeguards. 17 199
- Despite considering himself a being of the Void, Harvey refuses to abandon his humanity or become detached like Eternity. 735
