Background / History

Kunlun rose to prominence after joining the righteous coalition at Golden Summit against Ru Wuxin, the Nether Blood Demon, four centuries earlier. The victory devastated multiple major sects and cost Kunlun several senior figures and treasures, yet Kunlun eventually became the leader of the Daoist path. 32

Ru Wuxin was not truly eradicated: a drop of his blood demon blood entered Kunlun's spiritual veins and slowly recovered for centuries. By absorbing filth and malevolent energy, it inadvertently purified Kunlun's spiritual energy, allowing its disciples to cultivate far faster than those of other sects. 32

Seventy years before the main conflict, Kunlun's elders established the Great Luo Heavenly Array to suppress the growing Blood Demon threat. Huang Wushen inherited the sect leadership roughly sixty years before the present, rather than Xie Yue, whom their master considered too impetuous to bear Kunlun's secret. 32

Kunlun's hidden crisis became public within its upper ranks after Yuan Tianyi of Luofu broke its Great Sumeru formation and defeated several of its strongest cultivators. The resulting losses included General Luo's disappearance, Jiu Ba's loss of cultivation, Luoxian's injury, Wentian's diminished Natal Sword Essence, and damage to Kunlun's defensive formations. 31 32

Influence and Authority

Kunlun is recognized as the de facto leader of the Daoist sects. Even major sects such as Qingcheng fall effectively within its sphere of command, while weaker sects receive its protection and obey its orders. A Kunlun command token can mobilize numerous cultivation sects. 22

Major Arcs

Conflict with Luofu

Yuan Tianyi attacked Kunlun after it intruded into Luofu territory. He shattered Kunlun's protective array, defeated elite disciples, overcame General Luo, and forced Wentian and Luoxian into a desperate joint defense. 22 23 25 26

Huang Wushen ultimately intervened, severing Yuan Tianyi's connection to the world and causing his disappearance. The battle left Kunlun severely weakened and exposed the urgency of its concealed Blood Demon problem. 26 32

Expansion and Conflict with Shushan

Kunlun sent Zhuo Chendao and Nan Liyue to Shushan under the pretext of intercepting a demon, while actually seeking Ye Zhaonan and the Luofu inheritance. Shushan recognized the visit as an attempt to test its stance and feared Kunlun obtaining Luofu's legacy. 66

Kunlun's forces later ambushed Shushan disciples in Beimang. Kuang Wuxin captured and killed Dan Lingsheng after he attempted to escape and warn Shushan. 68

Kuang Wuxin's Rebellion

Kuang Wuxin secretly sought to overthrow Huang Wushen and take control of Kunlun. He had Tang Qingxiang leak information, cultivated allies within the sect, and coordinated assassinations that created enough confusion for the Great Sumeru formation to be breached. 232 290 292

Huang Wushen responded by abandoning the inner three ring islands to expose infiltrators, mobilizing hidden grey-robed forces, and consolidating surviving disciples on the outer islands. 293 294

Siege of the Nine Layered Islands

Tens of thousands of red-robed cultivators surrounded Kunlun under the Netherworld Blood Sea formation, which weakened both sides and narrowed the difference between high- and low-level cultivators. 295 298

Kunlun defended its first ring island with more than seven thousand returned disciples, ambushes, expendable resources, and deadly counterattacks. A grey-robed disciple sacrificed his Natal Sword Essence to kill the invader He Moluo and inspire the defenders. 299 303

The fifth ring island became the decisive defensive line. Kunlun first deployed the Azure Goddess automatons, then unveiled the Great Five Elements Annihilation Sword Formation after the automatons were destroyed. 334 336

Kuang Wuxin's forces believed Huang Wushen had been erased by the Dark Star Dao Lord's Cave Heaven Dark Realm, only to discover they had killed a substitute. Huang Wushen's reappearance caused Kuang Wuxin to flee. 372
