Cai Shu’s parents had her cultivate the Valley Spirit Profound Origin Art from an early age, though she later considered it inferior to Shushan’s Great Dao Direct Pointing Cui Xu Art. 69

She entered Shushan before Luo Bei and initially considered herself his senior sister. During the Tianzhu Peak herb-gathering exercise, she deliberately caused Luo Bei to miss Ming Hao’s demonstration of the Ci Tong Grass, only to be paired with him and reveal that she had missed it as well. 34

Cai Shu is intelligent, proud, sharp-tongued, and strong-willed. As a new disciple, she quickly sees through Zong Zhen’s petty arrogance and refuses to submit to seniority based solely on earlier entry into Shushan. 36 37

Though initially suspicious of Luo Bei and easily irritated by his earnestness, she recognizes his character after he risks himself to gather herbs for her. Their shared trials transform her teasing hostility into lasting trust and loyalty. 34 36 41
