Background & History

Jade Sword Peak is one of Mount Shu’s historic Five Sword Peaks. In Mount Shu’s earlier era of dominance, the Five Sword Peaks gathered the sect’s sword cultivators and acted as its aggressive vanguard against demons and devils. Their defining tradition was courage, diligence, and a willingness to take the lead in battle. 68

As Mount Shu declined over roughly five centuries, the Five Sword Peaks lost much of their former influence while more conservative factions became mainstream. Gold Sword Peak and Silver Sword Peak even suffered broken inheritances; Jade Sword Peak, however, preserved a continuous lineage extending for a thousand years. 68

Wang Xuanling’s leadership restored much of the Five Sword Peaks’ old forcefulness. His thunderous methods became so closely associated with Mount Shu that demons and evil spirits often thought of him before the Sect Leader. 68

Organization and Culture

Jade Sword Peak has the greatest influence among Mount Shu’s peaks and fields over a hundred disciples, including several renowned Golden Core cultivators. Its depth of talent made it an early favorite for the Shu Mountain Summit’s Chief Disciple position. 3 68

Wang Xuanling trains disciples through intense internal competition, widely accepting disciples and making them compete for resources from a young age. This approach is compared to raising Gu: the strongest disciple eventually emerges as the “Gu King.” 68

• The peak’s internal competition produced Xu Ziyang, whose exceptional ability largely ended the earlier contest for supremacy among its disciples. 68
• Its disciples are not always unified; during preparations for the Mountain God Festival, they became highly suspicious of spies from rival peaks and even from other Jade Sword Peak teams. 189
• Jade Sword Peak retains Mount Shu’s sword-cultivator traditions, including legacies related to flying-sword racing that have been passed down across generations. 255

Rivalry with Silver Sword Peak

Jade Sword Peak and Silver Sword Peak were historically closely connected as fellow Five Sword Peaks. In the current generation, however, their leaders’ incompatible temperaments created an open rivalry. 9

Wang Xuanling is described as overbearing, rigid, and stubborn, while Silver Sword Peak’s Di Nufeng refuses to accept anyone standing above her. Their repeated clashes led their disciples to treat the opposing peak as a rival. 9

Before the Shu Mountain Summit, Wang Xuanling claimed that Jade Sword Peak would certainly secure the Chief Disciple seat. Di Nufeng challenged him to a wager:

• If a Jade Sword Peak disciple won, Di Nufeng would surrender the Phoenix Spirit Blood Jade.
• If a Silver Sword Peak disciple won, Wang Xuanling would yield the position of Chief of All Peaks to Di Nufeng. 2

Although Xu Ziyang later lost to Chu Liang, the wager was framed around the ultimate Chief Disciple winner rather than a direct match between the two disciples. 274
