| Occupation/Role | Peak Leader of Jade Sword Peak; one of Mount Shu's Thirty-Six Peak Leaders |
| First Appearance | 8 |
Background / History
Wang Xuanling leads Jade Sword Peak, one of Mount Shu's Five Sword Peaks. As the Five Sword Peaks declined alongside Mount Shu, he became a prominent force preserving their old spirit of courage, initiative, and demon slaying. His reputation for ruthless action became so widespread that many demons and evil spirits thought of him before Mount Shu's Sect Leader. 68
He runs Jade Sword Peak through broad recruitment and intense internal competition. The peak has more than one hundred disciples, who compete for resources from a young age; this model produced Xu Ziyang as its standout disciple. 68
Wang has two lifelong ambitions: restoring Mount Shu's Demon Suppressing Pagoda and returning the sect to its former position as leader of the immortal sects, and attaining the Great Dao to control Heavenly Origin or even comprehend Profound Understanding. Believing his own talent insufficient for the latter goal, he places great expectations on Xu Ziyang. 68
He slew a Jiaolong in the East Sea after it endangered fishing boats, further establishing his formidable reputation. 8
Appearance
A tall elder who typically wears a green robe over white inner garments. His weathered face, gray hair, long beard, and clear, star-like eyes give him a severe and dignified presence. 68
- Tall build. 68
- Gray hair and a long beard. 68
- Bright, clear eyes. 68
- Often described with a stern or killing-intent-filled expression during crises. 182
Personality
Wang Xuanling is stern, combative, and deeply committed to Mount Shu's restoration. He embodies the Five Sword Peaks' old militant character and expects his disciples to retain a sharp, forward-driving will rather than settle for safety or mediocrity. 68
Despite his severity, he is highly protective of Jade Sword Peak's disciples. He personally entered the Immortal Marsh when Xu Ziyang went missing, placing his disciple's safety above the mission to clear the Calamity Ba. 182
He is decisive to the point of bluntness, including in personal matters. Regretting that he dedicated his own life solely to cultivation and Mount Shu, he repeatedly tries to steer Xu Ziyang toward a relationship with Jiang Yuebai, partly because of the Purple Azure Twin Swords' power as a pair. 68
Wang is often exasperated by Di Nufeng's provocations and Xu Ziyang's poor romantic instincts, but he can set aside pride when circumstances require it. During the Guixu crisis, he seriously solicits Chu Liang's tactical advice and works under an assumed identity to execute their plan. 710 726

Story Role / Major Arcs
Purple Azure Twin Swords
When the Purple Azure Twin Swords emerged—a sign of an approaching crisis for Mount Shu—Wang informed Xu Ziyang that the Shu Mountain Summit would determine the swords' new masters. He encouraged Xu Ziyang to compete for both the Chief Disciple position and the swords. 68
Wang also revealed that the twin swords are strongest when wielded by lovers: their combined power is greatly reduced without mutual love but can rival top divine artifacts when their wielders are deeply in love. 68
Immortal Marsh Search
After Xu Ziyang and Chu Liang disappeared in the Immortal Marsh, Wang arrived personally and used the Mirror Sky Eight Trigrams to search the entire area. His priority was recovering his missing disciple rather than completing the Calamity Ba-clearing mission. 182
Mount Shu Summit
Wang entered a public bet with Di Nufeng over the Chief Disciple competition, confident that Xu Ziyang would prevail. When Chu Liang surged through the Heavenly Ladder rankings, Wang continued to trust Xu Ziyang's lead while provoking Di Nufeng over her earlier boasts. 250 251
Guixu Divine Sect Infiltration
Wang joined Chu Liang in investigating the Guixu Divine Sect and searching for the captured Xu Ziyang. He accepted Chu Liang's disguises and methods, including using Tun Tun to gnaw through the refined building's walls rather than openly cutting a path with the Demon Slaying Sword. 652 654
Afterward, Wang and Chu Liang devised a counterplan against the Sea Master's scheme: rather than merely withdrawing, they would use the planned gathering to draw out hostile Eighth Realm experts. Wang then infiltrated the Guixu Divine Sect disguised as Xuan Yinzi. 726
Trivia
- Wang regrets never pursuing romance in his own life and does not want Xu Ziyang to repeat that choice. 68
- His attempts to guide Xu Ziyang's love life are repeatedly frustrated by Xu Ziyang's direct and impractical personality. 165 710
- A rumor spread through Mount Shu claiming Wang had an ex-wife and a non-biological child after an argument with Di Nufeng, despite the underlying matter being her killing Xuan Yinzi. 652
