Background / History
The Immortal Palace was founded by True Lord Xianyu. Its long-serving guardian, Xuanzhe, is a Primordial Spirit clone of the founder who was entrusted with protecting the organization and its Cave Heaven. During an earlier conflict with the Qiankun Sect, Xuanzhe merged his Primordial Spirit into the Cave Heaven to save it; this granted him immense power and eternal lifespan, but permanently bound him to its confines. 428
The organization became known for recruiting cultivators with poor Spirit Roots but exceptional combat or spell talent. Its members relied on plundered resources, specialized artifacts, and dangerous operations to overcome their poor natural cultivation prospects. 32 65 116
By the time Su Bai considered joining, the Immortal Palace was in a weakened state: its Palace Lord had died, two of the Four Great Immortal Envoys were dead, one was missing, and Xuanzhe was severely injured and confined to headquarters. 352
Qingzhou Operations
The Immortal Palace openly intervened near the Jade Mist Sect to recruit Jiang Han, attracting the sect’s hostility after Su Duanqiu killed Jade Mist disciples during the incident. 32 33
It later gathered spell-talented cultivators with poor Spirit Roots in Qingzhou and targeted the Golden Light Sect for cultivation resources. 95 Its agents also competed with Holy Hall for the Thunderous Pill and used teleportation talismans to extract recruits and operatives without leaving an accessible trail. 175
Su Bai's Entry and Expansion
Su Bai joined under the identity Ye Qingyu, accepting a High-grade Immortal Seed and the title Spirit of the Immortal Palace rather than the more conspicuous Sword title. He received authority over the Demon Star Sea, subordinate positions from Spirit One to Spirit Twenty, and twenty Low-grade Immortal Seeds. 355 356
He was later appointed Heavenly Pivot Immortal Envoy, gaining partial authority over the Cave Heaven. Tiangang became the Yellow Springs Immortal Envoy and was dispatched to lead Immortal Palace forces in the Southern Sea. 427 430
South Sea Campaign
Under Xuanzhe’s direction, the Immortal Palace seized Crimson Flame Island and Rock Island, established defensive formations, and intended to relocate its Cave Heaven to the South Sea. During the occupation of Crimson Flame Island, its cultivators slaughtered Foundation Establishment-and-above local cultivators and enslaved weaker cultivators with poisonous gu to operate resource sites. 451 473
The South Sea’s major sects united against the invasion, regarding the Immortal Palace as a Demonic Path threat. The conflict escalated into a battle involving multiple Nascent Soul cultivators and the materialization of the Immortal Palace headquarters above Crimson Flame Island. 463 471
Following the conflict, Su Bai assessed that fully converting the organization into a stable sect-type force in the South Sea would require at least a century of integration. 486
Renaming as the Southern Palace
Over subsequent centuries, the organization reduced some of its most brutal practices, supported local cultivation clans and smaller sects, resisted deep-sea Demonic Beasts, and protected shipping routes. It officially adopted the name Southern Palace to distance itself from its Demonic Path reputation. 712
By this period, the Southern Palace had developed open resource-trading and covert intelligence networks throughout the South Sea. Most younger cultivators viewed it as a powerful but broadly rule-abiding stabilizing force, while only older cultivators retained clear memory of its former reputation. 712
Organization
Recruitment and Membership
| Position / Group | Details |
|---|---|
| Candidates | Prospective members may hold numbered designations and compete to replace full members. Sword One and Sword Three, for example, were candidates for a Sword position. 65 |
| Official members | Initially described as having a minimum Golden Core cultivation level; their combat power is considered exceptionally dangerous due to the resources needed to reach that realm with inferior Spirit Roots. 66 |
| Numbered subordinates | Titled members may recruit subordinates numbered One through Twenty within their lineage. 352 356 |
| Pulse Masters / titled members | Golden Core cultivators can become high-ranking members and receive titles based on their specialty, such as Sword, Fire, Water, Wood, Wind, Blade, Eagle, or Fist. 352 394 |
| Four Great Immortal Envoys | Senior authorities who convey the Palace Lord’s decrees and outrank titled members. 352 |
| Immortal Palace Lord | Former supreme leader; the position was effectively vacant after the Lord’s death. 352 |
The Palace is divided into more than a dozen branches based on members’ specialized paths and elemental spell affinities, including Sword, Fire, Water, Wood, Wind, Illusion, and Thunder lineages. 352
Capabilities & Infrastructure
Immortal Seeds
Immortal Seeds serve as markers of membership, communication tools, and mechanisms of control.
- Lower-realm recruits are implanted with Immortal Seeds; Golden Core cultivators and above can join without one. 352
- Earlier Seeds compelled obedience to higher-ranking members; later versions prohibited betrayal while allowing greater personal freedom. 352
- High-grade Seeds can transmit messages across great distances, while Low-grade Seeds receive one-way messages. 356
- The Seed network enables rapid battlefield communication between members and was used to coordinate Crimson Flame Island’s defenses. 453
- Possession of an Immortal Seed is required to receive Immortal Palace Divine Abilities without committing treason. 362
Teleportation Network
The Immortal Palace maintains concealed teleportation outposts across multiple cultivation worlds.
- Teleportation arrays provide rapid inter-world travel and are a major incentive for joining. 352
- Outposts can be deeply buried and disguised as ordinary rock and soil; without an Immortal Seed’s guidance, locating them is effectively impossible. 362
- At least a Mid-grade Immortal Seed is required to activate a standard outpost. 362
- Teleportation talismans allow operatives to escape after raids or recruit extractions. 175
Cave Heaven Headquarters
The headquarters is a mobile Cave Heaven whose colossal palace form can manifest or be concealed at its controller’s will. It was originally located in the far western sea of the Qianyuan Cultivation World and could move anywhere within that sea region. 354
- The Heavenly Gate serves as the outer entrance and is guarded by Left and Right Sentinels. 354
- Five Immortal Bridges form the true entrance; choosing incorrectly sends intruders into dangerous Secret Realms. 354
- The bridges are protected by spatial restrictions strong enough to delay even Nascent Soul cultivators. 354
- Immortal Envoys can receive portions of the Cave Heaven’s power, including free entry and exit privileges; Heavenly Pivot could not initially move the Cave Heaven itself. 427
- The organization’s later core territory is the heavily protected Palace Tower Secret Realm, where Xuanzhe remains linked to the entire secret realm. 712
Methods and Reputation
The Immortal Palace historically avoided cultivating its own spirit veins or maintaining conventional sect territory. Instead, it acquired resources through raids, infiltration, theft, and the seizure of talented cultivators. 65 66 451
- Recruits are valued primarily for spell and combat potential rather than Spirit Root quality. 32
- Members obtain specialized artifacts for operations but must purchase non-mission equipment with Spirit Stones. 65
- Operatives surrender part of their gains to higher-ranking members, including half the profits from Jiang Han’s Blood River Secret Realm operation. 65
- The Palace’s covert nature, teleportation methods, and dispersed membership make it difficult for conventional sects to locate or retaliate against. 66 86 175
- During later operations, members concealed their identities beneath black robes rather than openly wearing the organization’s purple robes. 481
