Territory and Facilities
| Location | Function and Features |
|---|---|
| Qingyun Plaza | First checkpoint before the mountain gate. During the decennial recruitment ceremony, the Mountain Protection Formation opens a passage for mortal applicants 1. |
| Mountain Gate Plaza | A white-jade plaza a hundred zhang across, used to receive guests. Its nine-zhang stone stele bears the sect’s name in characters carrying a faint Sword Intent 19. |
| Qingshan Spirit Plain | Resource-rich territory bordering the Qingyun Mountain Range, containing ancient ruins and secret realms 18. |
| Inner Sect Grand Hall | Administrative center for Inner Disciples. A Golden Core ancestor nominally oversees it, while ten Foundation Establishment stewards rotate through its daily duties 58. |

- Emergency refuge: The underground cultivation grounds can connect to the Spirit Vein and seal the mountain. This contingency had never been activated since the sect’s founding when the facility was introduced 62.
- Cultivation environment: The mountain gate’s core Spirit Vein and Spirit-Gathering Grand Formation provide abundant Spiritual Qi, making it a recommended location for Foundation Establishment attempts 93.

- Identification: Jade Talismans prove disciple status and authorize entry into sect areas. Newly registered Outer Disciples also receive robes, introductory Jade Slips, and courtyard assignments 73.
- Elder robes: Inner Sect elders wear deep-purple, cloud-patterned Daoist robes 105.
Academies and Specialized Institutions
- Old Four Academies — Golden Core ancestors oversee their inheritances, which extend from Qi Refining through Golden Core. Their complete techniques and preferential resource allocation give them lasting advantages at Foundation Establishment 88.
- Sword Academy — Established under Xu Shangran, who passes its leadership to Zhao Shanhe. By Su Bai’s Nascent Soul return, its disciples consistently place it among the sect’s top three academies and sometimes win the Inner Sect Grand Competition 106 431.
- Ice Court — Home to Bing Li and Zhao Hanshuang; competes prominently in the Inner Sect Grand Competition 79 91.
- Lightning Court — Wan Haoran’s academy 118.
- Wood Court — Provides divine-ability inheritances, including two Jade Slips Qin Lin gives Su Bai before his departure for Golden Core Formation 247.
- Refining Institute — Led by Xu Ping’an, who can upgrade Su Bai’s Azure Dragon Sword into a spirit artifact if suitable materials are supplied 118 119.
- Law Enforcement Court — Enforces disciple conduct internally, pursues evil cultivators externally, and apprehends sect defectors. Its disciples are selected for strong combat ability and decisive methods 32 52.
Recruitment and Training
Recruitment
- Public recruitment: Held once every ten years, drawing youths from dozens of mortal kingdoms across Qingzhou, including nobles, commoners, and remote tribes 1.
- Spirit Root assessment: Cultivators test applicants directly. Su Bai gains immediate Outer Sect admission after presenting a Water–Fire–Wood Triple Spirit Root 2.
- Affiliated-family recruitment: The Cai Family gathers Spirit Root-bearing youths near its lands and periodically sends them to the sect. Its founder was a former Jade Mist Sect disciple 64.
- Documented intake: Su Bai escorts eight Cai Family recruits to the sect and registers them as Outer Disciples 72 73.
- Aptitude bias: Despite valuing martial talent, the sect shares the wider cultivation world’s emphasis on Spirit Roots. Su Duanqiu’s Four Spirit Roots are viewed as a severe limitation despite her exceptional Sword Qi 27.
Instruction and Assessment
- Regular lectures: Elite Inner Disciples lecture Outer Disciples on cultivation and spells 9 10.
- Practical supervision: Spiritual-field assignments include manuals and steward guidance on spell use, pest identification, and crop care 13.
- Technique assessment: Examiners prioritize proficiency and practical usefulness over a technique’s tier 15.
- Discipline: Disciples can be demoted to Labor Disciple status for a year, with restoration conditional on diligent work 15.
- Combat development: The sect uses generous competition rewards to encourage disciples to become capable fighters rather than cultivators skilled only in production tasks 17.

|---|---|
| Schedule | Annual; the competition Su Bai wins begins on the fifteenth day of the twelfth month 82. |

| Supervision | Dozens of Foundation Establishment stewards and elders serve as referees and patrols 82. |
| Rewards | Includes access to a Foundation Establishment Pill and opportunities for True Disciple promotion 79 92. |
Resources and Economy
Contribution Points
- Official value: One contribution point equals one low-grade Spirit Stone, though points have greater practical purchasing power within the sect 58.
- Restricted goods: Certain rare artifacts, pills, and high-level technique Jade Slips can only be acquired with contribution points, often at preferential prices 58.
- Services: Points can fund missions, hire senior cultivators, rent special cave residences, and grant access to restricted texts 58.
- Exchange restrictions: Outer Disciples cannot obtain contribution points. Inner Disciples exchanging Spirit Stones for points pay a five-percent processing fee 58.
Pills and Inheritances
| Resource | Access or Limitation |
|---|---|
| Foundation Establishment Pills | Obtainable through competition, meritorious service, or True Disciple promotion. True Disciples may also purchase them for ten thousand contribution points each 92 93. |
| Second-tier cultivation pills | Two master alchemists provide Foundation Establishment cultivators with a relatively stable internal supply 108. |
| Golden Core Breakthrough Pills | The sect cannot refine them itself and purchases them from major Qianyuan sects, whose exported pills are of poor quality 432. |
| Memory Fragments | Preserve predecessors’ experiences, insights, and portions of soul imprints. Even a fragment from a Qi Refining True Disciple starts at ten thousand contribution points 103. |
| Profound Gold Pills | Zhang Jingyun undertakes to distribute ten fairly among the disciples following Su Bai’s return 433. |
Missions and External Supply
- Resource-point service: Spirit Moon Lake’s guarding mission requires Qi Refining Layer Four, three mid-grade spells including Water Escape Technique, and at least one year of service. Its annual reward is three bottles of Yellow Dragon Pills 18.
- Trade and recruitment: Missions combine deliveries of purchased pills and artifacts with collecting payment and escorting recruits 64.
- Memory-fragment fishing: The Lake of Rebirth offers three-year assignments using sect-issued Soul Spirit Fishing Gear 100.
- Secret-realm harvesting: Blood River expeditions reward disciples according to the value of medicines they surrender to the sect 49.
Cultivation Methods and Techniques
Jade Mist Art
A top-tier Foundation Establishment cultivation method and the sect’s famous foundational inheritance 104.
- Amplifies spells of every attribute, though less strongly than specialized top-tier single-attribute methods.
- Produces denser spiritual power, granting roughly twenty to thirty percent more than ordinary methods at the same realm 104.
Nine Heavens Sword Soul Art
The strongest sword cultivation method in the sect’s collection, bestowed on Xu Shangran when he committed to establishing the Sword Academy lineage 106 431.
- Comparable in standing and power to the Jade Mist Art, with greater emphasis on offense and killing power.
- Has exceptionally strict requirements for practitioners.
- Serves as Su Bai’s primary method from Foundation Establishment through peak Golden Core; its condensed Sword Soul remains useful after Nascent Soul 106 431.
Lightning Arts
- Thousand Lightning Lure — A technique Wan Haoran teaches Su Bai 181.
- Myriad Lightning Lure — A stronger Jade Mist Sect crowd-control technique that Su Bai later encounters for sale on the black market 181.
History
Spirit Moon Lake and the Immortal Palace
The sect’s territorial authority protects Su Duanqiu when she invokes a genuine protection token at Spirit Moon Lake. Zhao Shanhe rejects her family’s attempt to override sect regulations with clan law and shelters her on Lake Heart Isle 25.
The lake later becomes the site of a direct Immortal Palace attack. Su Duanqiu kills Bai Daoyuan and Yang Sheng while another Palace cultivator takes Jiang Han away. Kuang Ningyuan investigates, recalls Su Bai to the Outer Court, and places him under observation as the only direct lead 32 33.
Blood River Secret Realm Victory
The sect sends eighty-two Outer Court Disciples into the Blood River Secret Realm to compete with Profound Yin Sect and Biyou Palace 46. Its final harvest is valued at 116,000 Spirit Stones, earning first place, forty-five percent of the combined medicines, and first selection rights 57.
When Zhang Tan attempts to attack Su Bai over Li Xuan’s death, Wan Haoran intervenes with a lightning spell and publicly warns him against harming a Jade Mist Sect disciple 57.
Counterattack at Flowing Cloud Sect
Using advance intelligence, Jade Mist Sect ambushes Immortal Palace forces attacking Flowing Cloud Sect. Law Enforcement elites deploy formation components around the mountain, while the participating True Disciples use the operation as a supervised combat trial 93 94.
The operation ends with thirty-seven Immortal Palace members killed or captured and no Jade Mist Sect deaths. The Palace’s Sword escapes injured. Flowing Cloud Sect’s survivors request vassal status and annual tribute arrangements; Ye Taiyi refers the matter to an external affairs elder 96.
Nascent Soul Protection and Expansion
Biyou Palace’s Nascent Soul ancestor tacitly supports demands for half of Qingshan Spirit Plain’s resources. Su Bai’s return gives Jade Mist Sect its own Nascent Soul Grand Elder, and he goes to Biyou Palace to settle the dispute 431 433 435.
News of his intervention spreads, and Xu Shangran’s Golden Core ceremony confirms his realm publicly. Jade Mist Sect consequently becomes Qingzhou’s foremost sect force 439.
The sect later establishes a foothold in the Heavenly Star Alliance. Its leaders learn that Su Bai is also Lu Jiu, the Alliance’s Vice Alliance Leader, and become more guarded around him because of the enormous disparity between the two organizations. Su Bai shows no intention of forcibly absorbing his former sect into the Alliance 485.
