Background / History

Naruto is initially a Ninja Academy student determined to graduate and become Hokage. Gen's early graduation inspires him to vow that he will become a ninja within the year. Gen also explains the harsh realities of the shinobi world to Naruto, but Naruto reaffirms his ambition rather than abandoning it 3 6.

Naruto and Gen become close friends through their similar circumstances. Naruto is sometimes insecure that his reputation in Konoha will cause trouble for Gen, but Gen consistently includes him in his life, gives him advice, and introduces him to influential shinobi such as Kakashi, Guy, and Jiraiya 4 19 20.
