Background / History

During the Uchiha clan massacre, Sasuke witnessed Itachi slaughtering their clan and parents through a genjutsu cast by Uchiha Ingetsu. The shock awakened his Sharingan and left him convinced that Ingetsu had saved Mikoto from Itachi. He remained in Konoha while waiting for Ingetsu to reunite him with his mother. 33

Sasuke's hatred of Itachi became immediate and violent. When Itachi returned badly injured, Sasuke approached him with a kunai, unable to suppress his desire to personally kill the brother he blamed for the massacre. 101

He was reunited with Mikoto during the conflict surrounding Konoha, after which she told him to address Ingetsu as his father. Sasuke gradually accepted Ingetsu as a father figure and publicly defended him when the resurrected Uchiha elders accused him of causing the massacre. 126 148

After the Uchiha seized Konoha, Ingetsu tested Sasuke by making him decide the fate of captured former classmates. Sasuke chose to spare Shikamaru and his team, showing both restraint and an ability to think beyond personal anger. 130
