Background / History
Fusu is the First Emperor Ying Zheng's eldest son and Great Qin's heir. During an eastern tour to Sanghai, he travels under Qin Army escort with Moon God and Star Soul of the Yin Yang School as protectors. He orders the exhausted escort to rest rather than press on through the night, earning General Gong's gratitude. 540
His arrival in Sanghai is marked by repeated attempts on his life. After a Net assassination attempt and a subsequent Mohist ambush at the city gates, he is saved from a fatal strike by Su Chen's saber light. Witnessing Qin soldiers die for him causes Fusu to question whether the Confucian ideals of benevolence he was taught can truly preserve order. 540 544
Fusu's formerly favorable view of the Confucian School deteriorates after Wang Li reports that Mohist remnants were sheltered in Little Sage Village. He visits the village without notice, meets Master Xun with outward respect, and ultimately supports the search for Xu Fu despite the Confucians' expectations that he would protect them. 556 558 562
At Little Sage Village, Fusu is poisoned with Manzhushahua and brought to the verge of death. Su Chen purchases an Azure Nether Pill and cures him after even Master Xun judges the poison incurable. Fusu subsequently orders Xu Fu and the implicated parties returned to Xianyang for trial rather than delivering immediate judgment. 568 570 571 572
Appearance
Fusu has a delicate, refined face and an air of scholarly elegance that sharply contrasts with the armored, martial atmosphere of the Qin Army. He is usually composed and formally dressed in fine brocade. 540 558
- Gentle male voice and courteous manner of speech. 540
- Scholarly bearing shaped by his Confucian education. 544 556
- Wears fine brocade when appearing as a Qin prince. 558
Personality
Initially, Fusu is compassionate, restrained, and deeply concerned for those serving under him. He personally assists General Gong after the first attack, promises rewards for Wang Li's service, and later comforts injured soldiers, earning their devotion. 540 546 582
The repeated attempts on his life force him to reassess his ideals. He learns to conceal anger and killing intent, accepts that sacrifice can have political value, and deliberately lures Zhao Gao's assassins into a trap rather than remaining a passive target. 580 581 582
Fusu retains his capacity for benevolence, but increasingly pairs it with political calculation. He recruits Wang Li, takes control of the Net, distrusts the Yin Yang School after its protectors hesitate during Zhao Gao's attack, and plans to bring the Hundred Schools of Thought under Great Qin's authority. 576 582 605 624
