Background
Wen Yin is Old Man Fate Crane's twelfth disciple. She was born blind; although cultivation lets her sense her surroundings, her perception is distorted and misplaced, leaving her with an exceptionally poor sense of direction. 56
She is first assigned to travel to Jade Wave City with Yang An, the sect's newly accepted thirteenth disciple. Their intended journey goes wrong almost immediately: Wen Yin leads him through the Fate Crane Sect's dungeon to the Earthworm Mother transport demon, but they emerge at Three Pine Mountain rather than Jade Wave City. 56 59 61
Appearance
Wen Yin is tall and slender, with a proportionate figure and refined facial features. She initially wears a fitted black outfit and ties her hair with a red cord. 56
- Her eyes are obscured by countless fine bloodshot veins, giving the impression that she wears a red veil. 56
- After advancing to the Viscera Stone Realm, her complexion becomes paler; the veins in her eye sockets multiply and lengthen, and an unnatural black light emanates from them. 147
- When her power becomes unstable, dark shadows cover her body and black blood runs through the vessels extending from her empty-looking eye sockets. 381
Personality
Wen Yin is initially terse, flat-spoken, and seemingly cold. She speaks little during her first journey with Yang An, but consistently acts with the responsibility expected of a senior disciple. 59
She is fiercely protective of Yang An. When Three Pine Mountain cultivators accuse him near a murder scene, Wen Yin answers their suspicions with force, injuring Ji Zhou and refusing to let him be detained. 62 63
Her trust in Yang An becomes absolute over time. She leaves the Mysterious Dao Sect with him without demanding an explanation, follows his instructions despite her own danger, and remains willing to train so that she will not become a burden to him. 287 327 334
Wen Yin also possesses considerable pride. Though weaker than the other Traitorous Scripture Society members, she insists on handling dangers herself rather than remaining under Yang An's protection. 334
Abilities & Skills
Black Phantom Manifestation
Wen Yin can manifest a black, ghoul-like phantom around her body. It grants her powerful close-range offense and defensive shadow covering.
- In a frenzied state, the phantom allowed her late Origin Feeder Realm cultivation to suppress two Viscera Stone Realm cultivators. 110
- Its claws can produce attacks powerful enough to shatter buildings. 110
- She can envelop herself in a smaller black shadow for protection and combat after entering the Outer Continent. 171 185
- The phantom can be weakened by enemy techniques and is vulnerable when opponents exploit civilians or use corrosive blood-based attacks. 110
Acute Perception
Despite her blindness, Wen Yin has unusually keen sensory perception.
- She can perceive external conditions through cultivation, though the information she receives is spatially distorted. 56
- In the Witch Barrier, Yang An notes that her perception can discover details ordinary cultivators might miss. 170
- Her inability to orient herself remains a severe practical limitation, repeatedly causing her to travel in the wrong direction. 61 293 294
Undying Body and Backlash
By the Flesh Rupture Realm, Wen Yin possesses an undying body, though it is suppressed in the Outer Continent. 174
- Her cultivation carries a severe recurring price; when it erupts at once, she loses control and suffers extreme pain. 171
- During combat, the spreading vessels around her eyes and encroaching shadows signal her backlash worsening. 176
- Her body can rapidly metabolize and recover after severe damage, including expelling charred flesh and organs following Ming He's torture. 382
Equipment / Items
- Defensive talisman — Given to her by Yang An before they part ways; it can withstand up to one attack from a Stiff God Realm cultivator. 288
- Bronze ring — Her means of contacting the Traitorous Scripture Society when within range. 345
Major Arcs
Jade Wave City Mission
Wen Yin escorts Yang An from Corpse Saliva Valley under Old Man Fate Crane's orders. She uses the Earthworm Mother as transport, but her direction impairment causes the pair to arrive at Three Pine Mountain instead of Jade Wave City. 56 59 61
When Yang An is suspected of involvement in a murder, she protects him with decisive force. Daoist Jing Yan identifies her as a late Origin Feeder Realm cultivator and persuades her to remain temporarily while his sect investigates. 62 63
Liuyun City Incident
Wen Yin is discovered in a violent, frenzied state while controlling her black phantom against two Viscera Stone Realm cultivators. Although she dominates the exchange, their immortal bodies and tactics gradually place her in danger until Yang An intervenes. 110
Journey to the Outer Continent
Wen Yin accompanies Yang An and Zhou Quan through the Witch Barrier in search of the Outer Continent. Her cultivation price spirals out of control during the crossing, leaving her in agony and intermittently unconscious. 169 171
Despite being weakened by the Outer Continent's suppression, she continues traveling with Yang An through the Collapsing Armor and into the Treasure Temple Domain. 171 174 188
Mysterious Dao Sect and Traitorous Scripture Society
While Yang An is absent, Wen Yin remains at the Mysterious Dao Sect and tries to preserve its stability despite Zhou Quan becoming increasingly disrespectful. 287
Yang An later retrieves her from the sect. She follows him immediately, even after discovering that the Golden Thread Pavilion had hidden a tracking artifact in her hair. 287
After becoming separated from Yang An, Wen Yin gets lost for over a month, exits the Collapsing Armor in the wrong direction, and is pursued by Golden Soul Cult cultivators. Yang An rescues her and brings her to the Traitorous Scripture Society's gathering. 293 294
Yang An publicly identifies her as an important and trustworthy junior sister. Though not an Innate Flesh Scourge, she is accepted into the Society under a restriction controlled by Yang An. 294 295
Ming He's Test
After disappearing during the Golden Soul Cult's assault on Earth Demon Cliff, Wen Yin is found in Ming He's possession. Ming He tortures her with crimson flames in order to test whether Yang An will defy him to save her. 381 382
Yang An breaks through Ming He's suppression and rescues her. Ming He subsequently gives Wen Yin a Golden Thread Pavilion identity token and orders her to cultivate in a secret realm, framing her training as a way to become useful to Yang An. 381 382
Death and Xian Source Land
Wen Yin later appears in the Xian Source Land, where her presence confirms that she has died. She is relieved to learn Yang An is still alive and agrees to investigate why dead Fate Crane Sect disciples have manifested there. 423
