Background
Yang An uncovers the Lighting Method from a hidden piece of pigskin after demonic activity threatens his home. An information interface appears when he touches the scroll, allowing him to identify and purify the technique's lethal cost. With no viable way to survive as an ordinary person in a demon-ridden world, he chooses to use it despite his father's warning that the hidden item would bring disaster. 2 15
After surviving demon attacks, Yang An purifies and fuses with a Bone Relic, manifesting a white Buddha Light Wheel behind his head. Pan Shi and Pan Yu mistake him for a powerful cultivator because of this radiance; Yang An preserves the misunderstanding rather than reveal his weakness and lack of sect. 8 10
He later becomes Old Man Fate Crane's thirteenth disciple and pursues cultivation methods, light-based techniques, artifacts, and body-refinement resources with unusual urgency. His ability to remove cultivation costs makes dangerous techniques—normally ruinous to their users—especially valuable to him. 51 56 71
Appearance
Yang An's appearance varies with his identities, concealment methods, and physical bodies. His Earth body is described as clear-faced and handsome, with refined features; after abandoning his Buddha Child identity, his black hair rapidly regrows. 288 402
- A pure white Buddha Light Wheel can appear behind his head, illuminating his surroundings with sacred radiance. 8
- He frequently uses masks, including one worn by his Origin World body, to conceal his identity. 284 416
- When activating Celestial Sundial Body or Only Light Technique at full output, he can become a dazzling humanoid figure of light. 144 175
- The Jade-Gazing Vajra Body and Crimson Wheel Infinite Body can alter his physique with golden dust and spell-light tempering. 251 290
Personality
Yang An is cautious, analytical, and highly adaptive. When Pan Shi and Pan Yu assume he belongs to a powerful orthodox sect, he immediately recognizes the deterrent value of the mistake and maintains the façade rather than expose himself as an ordinary man with limited strength. 10
He approaches cultivation pragmatically: he compares techniques before committing to one, studies costs and side effects, and seeks methods that complement his light-based powers. He is willing to endure discomfort, pain, and danger for advancement, but he avoids needless risks when a retreat or deception is more useful. 51 56 137 190
Although ruthless toward threats and provocateurs, Yang An protects people he considers allies. He searches for Pan Yu after her disappearance, sends Wen Yin and Zhou Quan away when confronted by a Stiff God Realm pursuer, and later returns to recover Wen Yin from the Mysterious Dao Sect. 40 182 287
He resists being controlled by powerful figures. His acceptance of Old Man Zhuanyu as master is a survival decision rather than loyalty, and he ultimately chooses to reject the fate Ming He intended for him. 216 222 454

Light-based cultivation is Yang An's primary combat specialty. He combines multiple techniques, often layering their effects before drawing their light into his body for explosive close-range power.

- Only Light Technique — Releases protective, demon-eradicating light or retracts light into his body to amplify physical power and speed. 71 73
- Celestial Sundial Body — Draws Sundial Light into his body, granting sun-like heat, speed, and destructive close-combat strength. 137 144

Body Refinement
Yang An supplements his spellcasting with increasingly powerful body-refinement methods.

- Crimson Wheel Infinite Body is Yang An's reconstructed light-based refinement technique, formed by integrating the Great Bright Buddha Golden Zen Curse with the Jade-Gazing Vajra Body. 251
- The Crimson Wheel Infinite Body possesses multiple transformations; by the time of the Central Continent crisis, Yang An reaches its fifth physical transformation. 402 445
- His physical cultivation initially remains a weakness against opponents specialized in pure bodily strength, forcing him to improve his close-combat methods. 175
Fate Dao, Rule Power, and Heavenly Dao Laws
Yang An integrates techniques into Fate Dao Techniques to advance through major realms and amplify his combat power.
- He had mastered ten Fate Dao Techniques by the Flesh Rupture Realm and thirteen upon entering the Stiff God Realm. 156 273
- Integrating Spirit Light Technique with a rule-power fragment grants him light-based rule power and spatial escape capabilities. 317 318
- He obtains and develops the Golden Sun, one of the Three Spirit Lights and a rule-based power connected to sunlight. 342 430
- Thousand-Hand Glorious Light Manifestation Dao allows him to manifest innumerable arms of fused spiritual light, each capable of wielding condensed light-blades. 430
- Even his strongest light-based assaults can be challenged by Ghost Dao rule powers, such as Hai Yun's ability to rewind time and regenerate. 290
Spirit Charm and Dual Bodies
On Earth, Yang An discovers that he can absorb Spirit Charm, a form of Spirit Qi distinct from Origin World's Spirit-Turbidity Mana.
- Spirit Charm powers his techniques more strongly than Mana and does not cause him the imbalance Pan Yu and Pan Shi expect. 394 395
- He reshapes an Earth body through Golden Core cultivation, making it more compatible with Earth. 402
