Background / History
Goto Hitori was a socially anxious student who considered herself useless outside of playing guitar. When the Inner World first opened, she planned to survive its three-day trial by hiding alone rather than risk approaching other players. Tsukikawa Shu instead approached her, praised her guitar playing, and invited her to form a team. 1 2
Despite being physically unathletic and initially unable to handle even a steel pipe comfortably, Hitori accompanied Shu against low-level monsters. Their partnership became a Destiny Contract after Shu confessed to her, leaving Hitori shocked but eager to accept a relationship she had never expected to have. 2 3
Shu gave her a Formation Master Class Card, which awakened her as a Curse-type Formation Master. Her ability converted her own intense negative emotions and humiliating memories into an area-wide curse, making enemies lose their will to fight. 4 5
As she continued fighting beside Shu, Hitori became a key control specialist against monster swarms and hostile players. She helped disable Giant Spiders, bats, Goblins, Lizardmen, and Koda Ken's group, though witnessing deaths left her distressed and nauseated. 5 6 16 20 36
In the real world, Hitori gradually became more confident because of her relationship with Shu. She changed from her usual tracksuit into a school uniform with a white ribbon, proudly tried to prove to her family and bandmates that she had a boyfriend, and resumed activities with Kessoku Band. 8 9 25
Appearance
Hitori is a pink-haired high-school girl recognized by her prominent pink ahoge. She usually wears a pink tracksuit, though she later makes an effort to wear her school uniform and a white ribbon when meeting Shu. 1 9
- Pink hair with a distinctive ahoge. 1 7
- Frequently wears a pink tracksuit, including during Inner World expeditions. 1 12
- Carries a guitar bag for Kessoku Band activities. 7
- Later adopts a school uniform and white hair ribbon to change her image. 9 11
- Uses an ice-blue electric guitar, Blue Lonely Planet, as her Inner World weapon. 20
Personality
Hitori has severe social anxiety, low self-esteem, and a strong fear of rejection. She struggles to initiate conversations, often stammers under pressure, and readily assumes she is a burden in combat or social settings. When overwhelmed, she may mentally shut down, retreat into a cardboard box, or collapse from embarrassment. 1 2 4 26
Despite wanting attention and connection, she is uncomfortable being watched. Praise for her guitar playing or acknowledgment of her relationship can make her euphoric, and she repeatedly tries to show off having a boyfriend to her family, friends, and bandmates. 2 7 8 57 95
Her anxiety also produces a darker, forceful side in battle. When using her curse, she relives humiliating memories and projects despair onto nearby enemies; in extreme states, she can become frighteningly aggressive. Afterwards, she is usually embarrassed and disturbed by her own behavior. 5
Hitori is notably poor at refusing people and has difficulty asserting her needs, particularly with Shu and Nijika. Nevertheless, she values the few bonds she has, defends Shu when others criticize him, and accepts Nijika's friendship even after their conflict. 7 100 102 103
