Background and History
Yang Mei was the second-ranked Law Demon God of Chaos and one of the few to survive the Creation Tribulation with his original body intact. Pangu nevertheless left him gravely injured. He entered the newly formed Primordial World seeking spiritual roots to restore his Hollow Willow true form 6 36.
His rivalry with Li Xinghe arose partly from the fall of the Time and Destiny Demon Gods: Yang Mei had retreated at a critical moment, and Li Xinghe inherited a task to settle the resulting debt. Yang Mei also tried to obtain the Willow Branch carried by Li Xinghe. When they fought, Li Xinghe sought another branch from his true form and thwarted his spatial escape with the Law of Time and the Chaos Pearl 6 36.
After further clashes, Yang Mei fled to the Primordial Great World. There he joined a sect under a concealed identity and recruited fellow cultivators to help him seize Li Xinghe's treasures. The attempt failed. Cornered by Li Xinghe's mastery of space, Yang Mei swore a Great Dao oath recognizing him as his master 397 399 400.
Li Xinghe subsequently gave Yang Mei access to the Jade Plate of Creation and a place to recover in the Underworld. Their alliance grew into cooperation against invaders: they fought Tianyunzi together, and Li Xinghe later shared Great Dao Origin with him 403 431 502 503. At the end of the story, Yang Mei secures the title associated with the Law of Space when the Ancestor of Space relinquishes it 1113.

Yang Mei is cautious about opponents who can counter his spatial arts. He repeatedly retreats from Li Xinghe and remains afraid of Pangu even after recovering to the Hunyuan Wuji realm. His caution does not stop him from scheming: he concealed his strength while using fellow sect members against Li Xinghe 295 398 432.
As Li Xinghe's ally, he becomes more willing to confront invaders. He also develops a personal ambition to surpass Di Tian and become the name most closely associated with the Law of Space 544 628.
